So much history with the Beverly Hills Hotel. I'm so glad they kept the integrity of it.

I love all the old buildings. I feel like I was alive in the 1920’s.

You probably were! Or memories of your family. I feel deja vu when I see some buildings from the 1920's.❤

Have driven past so many times and never realized this was built so early in BH history, or that it was the “Hotel California.” Thanks Huell and KCET!!

The hotel was heavily featured in the 1992 movie 'Death Becomes Her'... but sadly most of the scenes went bye bye when a subplot was removed and the director went for a faster pacing. The deleted scenes involved Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) driving up to the hotel and being greeted by Valet, her running the corridors, her francticly calling Ernest (Bruce Willis) from her room, Ernest visiting her in her room and her exercising in her room... It was Suite 1110.

I'd have liked to see some of the guest rooms. The place looks as if there are a lot of them.

If you ask the front desk for change for a $20 bill, they will give you ALL NEW BILLS ! They don't exchange anything but brand new bills, which are bone dry, they smell like ink (not the usual perfume or leather we are used to with used bills) and the bills stick together !! You have to wrinkle up each bill then flatten them out in order to handle the brand new money.

Believe it or not places, like hotels, where there was a great deal of interaction between people from many different locations it was considered proper to use new bills, if possible. Mostly for hygienic reasons. In the old days many people thought you could catch nasty things thru contact with bills. Also, lots of people would exchange old bills for new ones at banks, auto dealerships, pool halls and bowling alleys- and bakeries (clean places needed clean cash). Or you could join the Army back when we all were paid in cash, and got crisp, brand-new bills all the time.

This was filmed in 1995, when all the added phones by the pool was a real innovation. Because of android phones, receiving the prestigious _pool page_ must be a thing of the past (although I can picture pranksters like George Clooney having someone page him -- just for fun).

It truly is a shame the iconic buildings and places they have torn down not just in LA but all over Southern California. They (Kirk Krikorian) literally tore down the MGM Studios to put in a parking lot. The outpouring of love for Huell Howser in the comments is a beautiful thing
