Some people may think this is an odd choice, but this is going to be my wedding song. One of my first dates with my boyfriend was watching Once in my dorm room at college. I fell in love with it then, and through the years it has gained more and more meaning. To me, it is about saving a relationship that feels as if it is lost, but you know there is so much love there that you can point the sinking boat home. And the part about "sing your melody, I'll sing along," and "it's time that you won," is about loving someone enough to want to see them shine no matter what... even if it means you have to let them go. The way this applies to our story is that my boyfriend and I broke up at the end of college but I still loved him very much, and it turns out that he still loved me very much too, although I didn't know that until more than a year later when he reached out to me wondering where I was and what I was doing. One of the reasons we broke up was that he said he needed to let me go... But in the end, we saved the sinking boat and pointed it home because the love was never gone... "We've still got time." I couldn't have imagined in 2010 just how much this song would mean to me. Thank you, Glen and Marketa.

The first time I found this song was through someone who meant the world to me. July 2015. The song and the movie (Once) are one of her favorites. Later that year, we broke up. I live through the memories of us every single day - via the long long chats we've had - and I kept stumbling on this song over and over again. Then, I decided to watch the movie. January 2018. Left me yearning for her even more but I know I won't ever be able to get back with her again. Some part of me that used to crave her just kind of died. But it's 2018 and I still listen to this song, remembering you and the amazing love I felt through you. Thank you, V.

Thankfully, they are finally back together musically. I saw them Tuesday night (September 8) the first show of their US tour. They mentioned during the show that they had recorded 18 new songs and they played a few of them. I hope they can continue their musical partnership.

Glen Hansard was already famous before making this movie.

Marketa blends perfectly with Glen and he with her. I love her voice.

this song is so beautiful. Two voices, singing and playing in a room together. Hard to tell where one voice ends and the other begins. The song stands as a journal entry, of a shared time and space. it’s just so perfect, sad but so hopeful.

Yes, i couldn't agree more . i think that the background that enters the song just past halfway through it, really takes away from the raw beauty of this song.

Had never heard of the movie Once. It ended up coming on after I was watching a different movie on HBO. I wasn't paying attention until I heard Glen singing on the street. Immediately DVR'd it and have seen it 5 times now.

This is real music!!

I heard him say he was at a party when he came up with this song and seen a girl, I didn't know that.but what I get from this song is so much more deeper if you listen, ''Take this sinking Boat and point it home,we still got time'' makes me thing of a failing marriage,or a loved one on drugs saving them,or to wake yourself up don't sink,we ,made it now..'' beautiful. I lost my brother to alcohol at 47.no matter what I tried to say or do.but he did come to God and lived life 5 years after his liver failed.such a young age. Music is a gift from God,and uses whom he chooses and lets Him. 2020 never heard the song or Glenn,but I guess I was going through something in life at that time myself. I can't say enough about this Man, songwriter, singer, brought me to tears.
