Seems like a song about struggling and losing a more traditional religious faith but finding a sort of solace or faith in something more personal and less theoretical. Can't understand how people sing it as a Christmas song. Also, it never sounds right when sung by some fresh-faced youths like Pentatonix (not saying Rice's version is like that). Nothing against fresh-faced youths, but you have to have struggled mightily over a long period to truly sing this one, IMHO.

I heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? Well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth The minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... There was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me, do you ? But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was hallelujah, hm hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you It's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah...

The way he sings it honors the songwriting so much. Love it.
One of the best covers for me.
Every time I listen to your music the little girl within me cries and your version of Hallelujah hands down is the greatest, if you were here I would go to church to listen to you play every day. God bless you Jeff Buckley ☮️♥️🙏🏾🫂.
This cover is right up there with the original. Damien Rice, sublime.
❤ the best ever version ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Can the song lyrics still be counted under stupidity due to trauma or is this already a call to "evil"? Long live the arrogance of Leonhard Cohen!

Damn his voice tho!!!♥️
So many great versions and, I know this will be blasphemy to some but, in my OPINION, Rice does this song better than anyone.

@@capricornsotc597 I clearly said, "in my OPINION", to possibly stave off narrow minded simpletons. But, to no avail. You are muted.
Well, thanks for making me cry Damien

How about KDLang?
Damien is a legend, like leornad Cohen...
Damien is great.
Great song
Versione meravigliosa💖
If this be blasphemy, so be it, but I like this better than Jeff Buckley’s version. It’s clear without being over-enunciated, and I’m spared that odd intro that sounds like Buckley is tuning up.
