My Dad was a lineman in the Midwest for 35 years. He walked in 5 minutes late to work one morning and his boss asked him why he was late. He explained that Wichita Lineman came on the radio as he was pulling in. The whole crew nodded approvingly and his boss said it was an acceptable excuse. Glen Cambell was such a legend.

Good music is UNIVERSAL. I am a 50 year old Black woman that grew up in Williamsburg, VA. My dad loved Patti Page and my mom loved Hank Williams and Alan Jackson. They listened to country music as well as Aretha, Sam Cook and Johnny Mathis. I am so thankful I can appreciate all music because my parents exposed me to a wide variety. When Glen Campbell came on the radio my parents would sing along. One of my best memories is of the three of us singing Wichita Lineman together and on key (smile). I miss the music of my youth so very much.

I am an African American grandmother. I was living in Dallas, Texas, 1968, and I was 20, when this was released. The first time I heard this on the radio....I just couldn't get enough of it! It was so melodic, so heart-wrenching.....and I just LOVE minor chords within a song. This was not being played on the R&B station, KNOK, at the time; so I would hunt through all the channels until I found a Country Western Station, or POP station so I could hear this gem. I have never forgotten this song. It tells such a beautiful story of love. RIP Mr. Campbell, from one 'crossover sister.'

High School kids weren't listening to him then -- though as a grade schooler I saw his variety show. Luckily I had much older parents & adult siblings so I was exposed to lots of different music, even Hank Williams Sr. In 6th grade, I bought Johnny Cash's live San Quentin album.

In 1967, I will never forget this. My mother took me grocery shopping in Santa Ana, Ca. to a Stater Brothers grocery store. I was only 10 years old. She asked me if there were any 'Albums" that I were interested in, I happened to say that I like Glen Campbell....She bought me 'Wichita Lineman". I took it home and played it on the family 'Motorola' stereo system. WL was the finest song that I have ever heard up to that point. I remember listening to this song on the car radio when I was just a very little child, maybe 5 or 6 and it was a song that to this very day is one of my personal all-time favorites. I will be 60 in February and it’s funny how music can immediately transport you right back to that place and time; for me it’s long 12 hour road trips in the family car with my 4 older sisters, Mommy and Daddy, (yes, I’m southern) on a visit to my grandparents house. My parents are both gone now and 1 beautiful sister, too, but just for the few minutes of listening, they are all right here beside me and all is right with my world! Thank you Mr Campbell for helping keep my memories alive and to all the great music and musicians that truly ARE the soundtrack to our lives!

A prolific entertainer; an incomparable singer with perfect diction, timing, pitch, and with a natural smoothness to his voice. One of the best guitar players there ever has been. A writer, an actor, a comedian, a host. He acted with John Wayne in True Grit, as well as sang the theme song. His talent was tremendous, a gift from God. I will miss him so much--

Also, an ingenious song and lyrics, written by Jimmy Webb. Yes, the lyrics are absolutely beautiful.

@@dwaynereese1047 Roy was incredible. One of a kind. Rockabilly music with an operatic voice. I have said many times that when Roy did a song, he owned it. No one covered it because no one could measure up. Except Glen. I saw Glen do "Crying", and it was every bit as well done as Roy did it. Hard to tell the difference.

What a song!! What a singer!! His voice is so full of feeling and sentiment no one else has ever sang like him. He WILL be sadly missed. May God alleviate his voyage to oblivion and enter the night quietly. God bless him and his family.

I had the great privilege of meeting Jimmy Webb back here in the U.K. I told him that I believed the Witchita Lineman was for me, the greatest popular music song ever written and performed by Glen perfection.I still hold to that view... Bless them both.

Glen Campbell, Charlie Pride and Ronnie Milsap. That's my 3 favorite country singers of all time. Can't beat them. I'm 56 years old and their music brings back so many good memories of when I was young a child growing up. Good times !!
