I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. Things have been busy, so this video has taken a lot longer to get finished than I had hoped. About 10 years ago, I made a skeleton foam and mylar Clipped Wing Cub to put UMX electronics in. It was one of my first real micro scratch builds, and to this day, it's one of my favorite planes. I love slow flyers and doing aerobatics with stuff that doesn't look like it should be very aerobatic. A few months back the thought popped into my head to make one BIGGER and SLOWER. The original was built using 3mm Depron, so to avoid having to do any re-work of the CAD, I just doubled the size of the drawings and used FT maker foam with the paper removed. The covering is 0.3mil drop cloth from the hardware store attached with 3M 77 spray adhesive. I used 1.7g hobbyking servos, a 2203 power pack from Twisted Hobbys, a Spektrum AR620 with the case removed, and a 2s 300mAh battery. The model is just a bit over 1 meter in span and weighs just under 100 grams! It is lighter than a UMX Timber, and nearly twice the size. Flying it is magical, similar to an indoor F3P plane, but with big silly wheels to do touch-and-go's. I used the wheels off of a FunnyCub, and made custom gear with rubber band suspension. Initially I had planned on painting it, but the ghostly presence seems to suit its flying style :)
Here is a post from the build thread for the original smaller version from 10 years back : www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...
This build is a 2x scale version of the original plans. There are more detailed pictures in the rest of that thread.
As with all my builds, this is strictly for fun. I do not intend to sell any sort of kit based on this project, although I will be glad to answer questions about the build, and help anyone who is interested create their own. Do not upload my content as your own, and please provide proper attribution if you are sharing it. RC models are not toys. Build and operate at your own risk and in accordance with your local regulations. Fly smart, fly safe.

Now THIS is right up our alley. Great stuff. Fly 'em light!
This is what makes me want to get into r/c planes. I have been watching a lot of videos on slow flyers and have been on the fence about diving into this area of the r/c hobby. This video sealed the deal!

This is very refined & exacting. Not a place to BEGIN r/c flying. You're looking at years of skill. Expert building. Master piloting skills. Slow flying and extreme low wing loading, are not typical rc models. Good luck. Build your own. You will achieve much more of your goals.

I LOVE how well lightweight models fly, but this is next level! Magnificent!
Too Cool! Current state of the art fun flyer.
The plane and your piloting skills are awesome!!
That is so cool, never cease to amaze
What an amazing little slow flyer! Love how it handles with the flaperons - incredible rolling circles and even a knife edge early in the video. Fantastic little airplane! Thanks for sharing.
probably the best build and flying skills i've seen on the choob. inspiring
That plane is beautiful thanks for the vid
Oh, I want one like that! Very cool!
Looks like a fun aircraft to fly!
Great build!
That is a fun plane! Must. Have. Plans.
Just beginner looking for starter planes and this combination plane + flying skills are real joy to watch. I am really intrigued to build one.
Just came across this video. What a gem of a plane, really love it.
Slow flying is one of my most favorite things to do. I would love to build one. Thanks.

What an amazing flyer you made there. I'm very impressed!
Congrats it’s an awesome plane!
LOVE that!

Very nice! Excellent STOL (damn near VTOL LOL). Great plane, great flying skills.
Exceptional! Gorgeous model, awesome capable, and the pilot did ok....😂🤣😂 Great vid as usual. Stay well, happy holidays!
Amazing plane.
Very nice little airplane .. well done! And such nice and fun flying of it 😄👍 Inspires me to go back and try out ultra light micro cub-like flying again. Just for some backyard fun once in a while.

Bravo et merci. Le pilotage comme j'aime en vol lent, c'est magnifique et tellement plus proche du vol d'un vrai avion. 👍✌

Absolutely awesome plane! I do more high performance stuff these days but this reminds me of when I used to fly indoor 3d planes. Amazing build and incredible performance, this plane is the embodiment of everything a slowflyer/3d plane should be!
amazing!
That was some amazing flying skills! I'm going to try and build one of these. Hope it will fly as good as yours. Although I know my skills at flying are nowhere near your skills. I'm hoping this plane is very light and therefore forgiving.
Bueno trabajo hermano
wow very nice plane and control your good pilot :D
Been having a blast with your design man, have built a 15.7' or whatever the sock one was and a sized up 27" with turbo timber evo linkage and guts, a fatty high lift custom airfoil and reinforced all with 1mm carbon fiber rod. maxed out flaps to 90 degrees and stol is nearly vtol. Thanks again man! more plans please!!!
I want one. Wish you could sell them. It flies so well and you're a good pilot.

how the 3mm depron can be so strong ? is it as easy to make the skeleton of 3mm foam and cover it with thing plastic cover? Can you please some additional guidance? thanks
Outstanding build & flying!!!!!!!! Guess that its wing loading must be extremely low....maybe less than 2 oz/sq.ft ..?!?!?!?! Very well done!
Too good. Am a novice builder any video or plan for this plane?
I want one!
This is Absolutely Brilliant !!! Every body wants to fly fast, but it is so much fun to slow down and fly at the other ends of the limits. Is there a build video ?
Would be a great beginner plane.
Realmente maravilloso. Felicitaciones.

I have to say amazing build, very clever. I have been inspired to build and cut one myself so thanks for the dxf. i have all of the parts on order but have a couple of questions that i am hoping you can help me with. First is what size carbon rod did you use? Is it the same through out the whole plane? Also the construction of the under carriage, some detail of attachment and rubber band suspension, are the Funny cub wheels EPP, as i will have to make a set? Cheers and many thanks fro Aus.
awesome plane! can you please share the STL files to print?
Really interesting and a must do build. Too you are a very skilled pilot! Thanks again for post the video and offering help in building one. How do I get in touch outside KZread?

Seems pretty simple to do, to me! Looks like you could do a very similar thing out of foam board, and tissue/wax paper. Wax paper will be somewhat heavier. Very small motor requirements, and flaperons. And the wheels look 3d printed. Could shave weight and make them thinner, sand them down, use wire or balsa discs, etc
Thank you for the informations ! What airscrew do you use ?
Super
What was the crossbreeze? Have been trying to get my ft cub to fly in small area but requires twice the area desired to get in the air. Love to know your setup!
Super cool little plane! Are you planning to sell the plans or make them available? What did you build it from?
I just love seeing and flying super slow and light weight planes. Amazing job, this is the best plane i have ever seen. Would you give a list of electronics maybe? And how log can you normally fly? (if you aren't doing a bunch of tricks :)

ajw61185 Merry Christmas!! I dont know how Ive just now found your channel seeing that im a UMX and micro plane addict. Nothing like having the wind push your plane back and give it lift lol my little timber could do that about 1/10 as good but still fun. I am acutally going to attempt this as my VERY first foam build. Actually me and my wife are looking for either a balsa or SUPER foam build with dollar tree board.I have some even thinner clear covering I may can use its some stuff made from 3M for insulating windows from the inside of the house using the provided double sided tape. Any way you could get the plans to me or send me to the right place? NOT FLITE TEST EITHER lol I love FT though.

From Chile; cuál es su envergadura?. Gracias!!. Very nice
Some might say, but what do you fly on windy days? Windy days are for staying inside and building lighter planes.
That is beautiful. Does it have a wood/carbon wing spar, or is it just depron? Even if it's very light, the wing appears quite stiff.
@ajw61185
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks!. It has a 3x1mm carbon spar the length of the wing, and 1.5mm carbon struts to brace the wing. You might be able to use just the struts if you were using 6mm depron for the wing. I was using the FT foam board with the paper removed, which is around 5mm and about the density/stiffness of the old Depron-aero
excellent. what material is used for the skeleton and the skin? and from where do u get that. what's that material exactly named
Hello, I enjoyed the video. I also want to make a low-speed airplane. What aircraft did you use? I'm curious about the motor specs and how the reporter used it.
