Who hasn't seen gladiator in 2024. How can you have a movie show and not have seen gladiator.

The Last Duel is GOOD.

Ridley is still one of the best directors working in Hollywood today. Loved the Last Duel and House of Gucci. The dude just cranks out classic movies in every genre.

Scott has changed the way he directs because Hollywood works differently with directors now and he had to change to fit into the new landscape. he has relinquished more control to the studios and has distributed/delegated his overarching role as director overseer to more subordinates. Like an established artist that just signs the work made by their minions. It also allows him to work on more movies because he's getting much older now. Simply put, he can't and doesn't direct in the same way as he used to.

You’re missing the plot. Lucius ( I hope I spelled the name correctly) is the son of Maximus. They hinted at it towards the end of the movie. He had an affair with the emperor’s sister.

I really liked The Last Duel - it bombing at the box office bears no correlation to the quality of the film.

I think The Last Duel flopped because it had hardly any marketing for it and it was released the week in between the releases of No Time To Die and Dune at a time when people were likely limiting their times to go to theatres because of COVID.

I loved 'Prometheus!' One of my top favorite films from the 2010s.

Imagine Gladiator 2 being an instant classic… cinema needs that along with Dune 2 to do well.

Last Duel is a great film. I understand these things are subjective but to just dismiss it as "not very good" is just objectively false. You may not have liked it for whatever reason but it tells the same story, multiple times, but from different points of view and does so very well. I was engaged throughout and so was just about everyone I've talked to about it.

The last duel was fantastic and severly underrated. Hello!? Are you guys for real?

The last duel as a story was fine, the casting I think was the real issue. Affleck and Damon were woefully miscast in this film. I quite enjoyed the house of gucci as well.

It had a rough cut, lots of scene transitions look like done by an amateur and there is not much in the story, I can see people rating it 6,5-7 with no hate in mind. But the duel was sexy af.

I know another (woman) collector of physical movies (discs) also on YT.. who even bought Gladiator in 4K and still didn't watch it yet / so far 😅 Gladiator is in my top 3 favorite movies of all time.

I liked all his Alien movies including Prometheus. The Martian and The Last Duel were really good.

Last Duel is very good. Have to disagree with John there

John saying Ridley Scott is not good anymore is simply a ridiculous statement. YOU may not like his films and the box office may not be in his favour but the quality of his direction hasn’t waned. His decisions as a producer and the scripts he’s working with however have been a big issue. The last duel was a very good film but it was far too expensive and was never going to work at the box office. In terms of his big budget successes look at the scripts. Sure a director needs to refine a script to make it work also, but let’s be clear here…. Both blade runner films were brilliant and yet flops (is villeanuve no good because of that?). Napoleon was a notoriously difficult film to write and we can see why, but Scott is an artist and loves to play with history. If Gladiator 2 has a script as solid and direct as the first film it will be phenomenal. Visually Scott is still one of the greatest filmmakers alive today. Regardless if you like his stuff, please have some respect in how you approach your critique.

Ridley Scott is a director not a screen writer the problem with many of these movies is not the acting or the visuals it’s the script which you can’t really blame him for. All of theses movies look amazing. And the last duel was fantastic

The unfilmed Gladiator 2 script by musician Nick Cave is a trippy read. And not as bad as everyone thinks. They already showed Maximus's consciousness entering Elysium at the end of Gladiator, so Cave naturally follows through with Maximus in the after life. Ridley Scott apparently liked it, but Russell Crowe didn't.

I live in Malta and had the opportunity to go to the set as they opened it for the public one day. I can tell you the set was impressive. The senate , coliseum impressive. Maximus tomb and a Pedro pascal huge statue as an emperor or general (couldn’t tell the difference) sold it for me.

Nice to hear, the fact that they built real sets and didn't solely rely on green screens is reassuring. Do you have more details on the Pedro Pascal statue, was he wearing an armor? There doesn't seem to be a lot of details about his character... Also, are you sure it was Pedro and not Paul Mescal character (the actors look kinda similar)? Was there more statues?

Hey yes they built the whole set senate the coliseum, Maximus tomb, statues ect everything built it was a hole complex theres some air views from a TMZ video They made us put our cellphones in sealed bags so I couldnt take any pictures. The Statue was him wearing an armor. And no pretty sure it was Pedro . Both Pedro and Paul are in the movie.@@user-id2vf9pe7k

"Kingdom of Heaven" has arguably the best directors cut including the LOTR's films. It's upsetting the directors cut wasn't the theatrical release.

When he said Pedro Pascal is in it I said "Of course he is" at the same time 🤣

Very entertaining and engaging, really enjoyed and I own it on Blu ray.

I’ve liked his films lately. Is it peak Scott? No but people act like he’s just making garbage. They are entertaining still.

Ever since I heard Denzel was a part of it, I'm interested. I like the Last Duel.

If the Studios think its good, it's probably the worst movie ever made. I have absolutely zero faith in Studio Execs anymore.

I did hear that they are finally having mock sea battles in the sequel, which did happen. Crocodiles and Hippos were used to devour the Gladiators who fell in the water, dead or alive! It'a about time we saw a Hollywood movie portray the Naumachia!

Gladiator is literally my favorite movie of all time and Denzel is my favorite actor so this is great news for me. 🙂

I believe Paramount has a name to live up to, and we're going to have another beautiful classic.

The Last Duel is very good, underrated.

Denzel doesn't ever phone it in and he never shows up in dud movies. My faith is in Denzel and not Ridley but put the two together? I think there's a greater chance of magic happening.

Ridley Scott is en route in becoming the oldest person to win Best Director at the Oscars and I'm all here for it! I have faith Ridley Scott has a few more masterpieces on him, he seem to care less about what other people think about his movies, which I think could potentially be a plus.

I was initially skeptical about this film but seeing the cast and early leaks of the plot I kinda became excited for this project.

I wish Scott had jumped forward a bit more in time and done a film about Belisarius instead. About the loyal general who is betrayed over and over by Emperor Justinian till he is blind beggar in the streets of Constantinople. Now that would be a great movie.

I'm really not interested in angry old drunk Scott films anymore. Napoleon was the final nail in the coffin. There is no passion in his filmmaking anymore, his films are just milled out like a factory.

Alien Covenant was fine a lot of critics liked the lasted duel just fewer people saw it in the theater. Ridley will be ok.

John is right, Scott has lost his edge, I feel like Scott has great ideas, and once he gets on set, he gets talked out of his own ideas and gets influenced by whoever is in the room!

I like Pedro playing roles like this. I don’t really want him in super hero movies. I liked him a lot in game of thrones.

Sources say it's the best gladiator movie since the dark knight. & the studio executives gave it a standing ovation. Source: me.

I like all of Ridley Scott's movies so I'm excited

The Martian I Loved. The Last Duel I loved. All The Money in the World I dug(Christopher Plummer is a big part of that). Napoleon WOOF. House of Gucci WOOF. Robin Hood I can take or leave it though I like it more than I don't. Alien Covenant Haven't seen it since it opened but I remember being fine with it. . But yeah John is right his recent batting average isn't good. The thing is Gladiator 2 feels too much like "Well my last few films haven't hit/ been all that good so I'm running back to the Well with something that was a Hit with Critics & Audiences so much so that every time I make a movie the trailers scream "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF GLADIATOR". So let me go back to this Well to get a Sure Fire Hit."
