Gisele MacKenzie interviewed by Edward R. Murrow

Ойын-сауық

Legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow interviewed televison's hottest star, Gisele MacKenzie, in her New York City apartment in 1955. Gisele was then currently starring on "Your Hit Parade," was a favorite of Jack Benny, a frequent guest on other variety and drama TV shows and was already secretly making plans for her 1957 departure from "Hit Parade" to star in "The Gisele MacKenzie Show." Gisele's parents & family gave her a call during the show and Gisele sang a little bit of her latest RCA recording, "That's the Chance You've Got to Take," which was her follow-up release to her BIG hit, "Hard to Get," which brought her bragging rights as the only star of "Your Hit Parade" to sing his/her own hit while starring on the show.

The original film of this is from Miss MacKenzie´s personal collection. Gisele was a very dear friend of mine.

That was pretty cool. I didn't hear about Murrow until Good Night and Good Luck. Really awesome to see the real thing.

Ed Murrow hosted "PERSON TO PERSON" from 1953 through 1959 (Charles Collingwood took over from '59 to '61, after Murrow took his "sabbatical"). Apparently, Gisele only received her portion of the telecast via kinescope [or she discarded the rest], so you don't get to hear Ed's famous opening disclaimer {"It's all live- no film"}. It took almost a week to "block" the celebrity's home, and arrange the cameras and lights, before the live telecast on Friday night.

Joni James would love to have a copy of her appearance on "Person to Person." If anyone can help, let me know. I'm her Fan Club president.

Your guess is probably the correct one, 'Videos'. Only CBS retained the full half-hour kinnies, featuring both of Ed's guests in the same program. If this had been a complete program, the opening title (with sponsor I.D.) and Ed's introduction would have appeared intact. I'm certain a complete half-hour copy, with Gisele, exists somewhere; I'd love to know who the other guest was...

@fromthesidelines This is all Gisele had in her archives. My guess it that all guests were given kinescopes of only thier portion of the intereviews.
