    She became my favorite feminist with this talk because: 1) she values modesty and socially conservatism while supporting female rights; she didn't once hate or put down men; and she didn't once mention that she was a victim (in fact, quite the contrary); and did not impose hew views/values on other women.

    I like her, too. But what if she had been a victim and had mentioned that. What's WRONG with mentioning when you've been a victim so that other women can learn from your experience? Why do we have to hide victimhood?

    I totally understand how Mayim felt at 12, speaking like an adult. I was told, when I was 10, by another 10-year-old girl, that I talked like a 40-year-old. She told me as my mother drove her home from Girl Scouts and my mother laughed, but it was true, and it was part of the reason why I didn't get along with my peer group. I'm also in a wheelchair and walked with crutches then, so I was very different as a child, and can relate to that.

As a fellow late bloomer who has an ongoing interest in "being human" as a whole, I want to pick this book up and immerse myself in it, if only to add to my science knowledge to backup some of my beliefs and observations. She is also inspiring me to really do some more serious writing about my observations as a whole on the human condition. ;) Honestly, she just delightful and full of nerd-humor -- something we need more of in our lives.

    Mayim, I am totally aligned with you that most societal labels don't make sense when it comes to who we are as individuals, even within a group. Humans are complex and we are each different, which makes it even more complex. We must each stand for being our own brand of unique without being forced to fit into a stereotypical label cos it makes someone else more comfortable. I believe each human must be prepared to wear many hats all at once, metaphorically speaking - us humans must dare to be that complex to truly live, enjoy life, exercise excellent discernment, follow our inner core voice and logic to make good decisions.

    I knew you were a talented Actress, Mayim, but since I started watching your videos, I'm even more impressed. I'm a Feminist too. I'm 68 years old. My Mother was an 11 year old Suffragette. My Great-Grandfather was an Orthodox Rabbi, an immigrant too. My Father's Mother's Father.. My Mother was Irish, so I'm raised Catholic. But I feel the presence of God, in the personal, interactive, one to one, Jewish, way. I was approached to write too. I said no thanks, you remember the last time we did this, in NJ. Turns out I've been blogging for 10 years now. Long story. How does she mix being an Orthodox Jew with being a supporter of the LGBT community? Wouldn't that immediately classify her as reformed? As far as I know (and I'm clearly no expert) LGBT people may be included, but sex between two people of the same gender would still be considered against the Jewish law, is that what she believes? If someone could tell me what I'm missing here, that would be great lol.

  • @sabineekaterinamuller8322

    @sabineekaterinamuller8322

    She is NOT Orthodox! She calls herself "conservadox," describing the belief system of embracing aspects of conservative Jewish thought and practice with progressive views on feminism, race, food(vegan) and living. SHe embraces certain ceremonial and practice areas that mean something to her, and her family, but also has her own views on these issues. In no way would she ever embrace a clear and didactic belief system which excludes her own feelings on these issues. She does, however, find "god's" presence in many aspects of Jewish practice, including conservative and orthodox belief and practice systems.For example, she embraces modesty, not as a judgment on a belief that women are "tempting" but as an embrace of her right to privacy of her own body, and in a feminist way. So don't be so stupid and narrow, in your intellect, to exclude the finer thought and belief systems refined by someone who actually explores why she believes certain things instead of embracing flat belief systems that exclude intellect and thought.

    I loved you in Beaches and have the musical sound track. Was that your voice? I was bowled away by you in that movie. I'm not sure why there's a question about calling a female, 'girl'. As I understand it, today, a person is an adult at 18, so if you are 18 or over, you are called a woman, before that, a girl. I do refer to myself as an old girl, sometimes, so it can be used in fun ways, if no harm is intended. That's the rub. Is harm intended?
