About Mayim Bialik:
You might know me as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory or from Blossom but there are so many other parts of me that you might not be aware of! I’m trained as a neuroscientist, I'm a passionate activist, an observant Jew, a perfectly imperfect mother, and I'm a complicated human being like many of you. I never knew my father and I just found him through Ancestry DNA! I sent him a message, but it looks like he hasn't logged in since I sent it. I'm pretty nervous considering he isn't even aware of my existence. 😐 In the meantime, I recieved a message from my (paternal) second cousin who was given up for adoption and just found her mom too! 💜

I’m also 8% Ashkenazi Jewish as well as a mixture of European and African ancestors. Lindsey Pindsey Be patient. Mine took several years after I found a first cousin on Ancestry and found letters from my birth mom. My half sister was wary at first but then agreed to having a meeting. I told her all I wanted was to see him and find out what I could. I had the best adoptive parents and as far as I’m concerned and I am grateful I got a chance at life through my birth parents.

    Beth Johnstone Jesus was not a Jew, he was an Israelite which is very different. Israelites are the lineage and are not all Jews. Some are Christians, Muslims, Jews , pagans etc etc like any other people. They are from the line of prophet Isaac, the younger son of prophet Abraham. the word Jew arises centuries later from those who follow yehuda. Jesus didn't follow yehuda, he was a prophet of the one God. This narrative needs to stop

    @@BusyAngel9999 With all due respect you are talking out of ignorance. Of course Jesus was Jewish. Look at the history books. 2000 years ago, in the Land of Israel Herod, Jewish King of the Jews under the Roman occupiers, ordered a census of the Jews. ... Why do you think Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem when she was so heavily pregnant? It was because of the census. Everything Jesus does and teaches is Jewish - it's the disciples who change things AFTER his death - like getting rid of the rules of kashrut which Jesus will have observed meticulously). They did this so as to widen their newly invented religion, Christianity, to include other groups. The Children of Israel (who I guess you mean by Israelites) became a Jewish nation in the Land of Israel (formerly Canaan) a thousand years before Jesus so I assure you that he was pure and simply Jewish. You only have to look at the prayer he wrote - The Lord's Prayer to see it is one hundred per cent a transliterated version of the standard Jewish blessing.

    p.s. as for the name "Jew" it came from the Hebrew. Yehudah was one of the Kingdoms of Israel, where the Israelites lived - this dates to a thousand years before Jesus, so I promise you he too was a Yehudi. (Even as they spin their web of lies about being native to the land of the Jews - the "Palestinians" reaffirm this fact - the Arabic for Jew is YAHUD!!!)

  • @BusyAngel9999

    @BusyAngel9999

    he was a prophet of god, the messiah, his prophethood is unquestionable. if the yehudis and what they were following was correct and what god revealed then why was jesus tasked to come to these very people and if he was a jew himself? clearly they were not following gods plan and clearly he was not jewish, he was a prophet of the one god. clearly the jews of the time and the society were wrong and they needed guidance, therefore jesus came. and thats why jews havent been in the holy land for centuries. the very purpose of prophets in the first place. the story of mary and joseph is not accepted by all, many believe mary gave birth by herself (no joseph and no travel) and presented baby jesus to the people as prophet of god when he spoke. btw the palestinians are the original israelites and more semitic than some 'israelis' and are very much native to the land, thats why god has protected them there for as long as he has-just like he promised god has alos promised if those israelites who spread terror and force people out of their land and forget the promise they made to god and god made to them, that he would make sure punishmet comes to them. this fact conveniantly gets left out

    Not arguing with the comment about Venice, but broadly speaking most Jews in Italy are Sephardic. Most Sephardim did not segregate themselves from non-Jews unless there was a specific reason. My general impression is that Sephardim didn't object as much to mixed marriages as long as the kids were raised Jewish. Also possible is that some of your Sephardic ancestors converted to christianity at some point.

    I am adopted and because of certain laws I have been prevented from tracking down birth family to get medical/genetic/bio history, so I took the 23andMe test. I knew enough about my natural history to know that there was a strong strong European component, so I had a hunch that I would probably encounter a smidgen of Ashkenazi in my genetic makeup. The test came back at a whopping 25%!!! I was so thrilled, but even more Mayim, what you said about seeing this information and understanding how it connects you to so much, even if there had only been a small amount in your DNA, is exactly how I felt as an adopted person. It helped me feel like I was part of something greater and more special.

  • @triciagreen8549
    @triciagreen85495 жыл бұрын

    I'm adopted so did an Ancestry DNA test to see if I really am Irish and Welsh, as I had been told by my parents. Not only did I find out my DNA percentages (37% Irish/Scottish, 67% English, Welsh and NW European, 2% Norwegian), more importantly I now have two new younger sisters I didn't know existed (I have half brothers too but they don't know about us). Our birth mother had put Disclosure Vetoes on our three files when she put us up for adoption, so lifelong questions were finally answered . For those uncomfortable with taking the test -- don't -- but know we are already aware of potential risks and have done it because the potential rewards greatly outweigh the potential for bad. I'm spending my first birthday ever with one of my new sisters in November -- I couldn't ask for a better 60th birthday present :)

My parents also they did not know where their are came from or their grandparents or their parents. I remember I was so sad and I feel some hurt, because I don't know who they are my grandparents or my family members. 4 years ago I started researching to my family. And now I know my grandma have 90% Ashkenazi Jewish, and my Grandpa 80% indigenous Quechua (from Perú), and Huaorani (from Ecuador, Napo River, Yasuní National Park, Amazonia)!!! And his great granparents are full blooded tribal indigenous persons. And the ironic, and very touchable in this story, that these two cultures were present throughout my life. Oh and now I'm an archaeologist student who researching Pre-columbian artifacts...

    My whole family has done ancestry dna and it's so cool to see! I understand the anxiousness before looking at the results because my dad is from Mexico and i was worried i wasn't going to have any native dna 😅 i think he's got somewhere around 45% and i got around half-ish of that

    Well, be careful! I did both 23 and Me and Ancestry. Turns out my Dad wasn't my birth father. Ancestry found one sister I never knew (still living) -- 23 and me found another. (Sadly, she died from liver cancer before I could meet her). There were two others....a brother and another deceased sister. A wonderful first cousin who looks exactly like me - and we even think the same ways. Some of the traits we share, (NOT having grown up together) -- well, it's remarkable. The story I have uncovered is so detailed and rich that a movie script could never capture what I now know about "me." My dad was 100% Danish (the Dad I grew up with) -- now I'm not Danish at all, but I have new siblings/cousins and a new heritage. They have done their genealogy so I know my lineage for several centuries. Now I know why I was taller than my mother and father - the birth father was tall. I've heard I have his personality from my new cousin. I've heard I have certain traits he had that did not exist in my growing-up family. My sister (the one I grew up with) didn't know her father either. It took Mom a few years to settle down (thankfully, she did). DNA testing shows she was half Ashkenazi Jewish. She hasn't had as much luck as I have finding birth relatives. The Jewish Grandmother wanted nothing to do with her when my mother shared her pregnancy with the Jewish line. (Makes me sad). We have names and location of this Jewish family but she was not wanted in that community. My new birth family has been very open. So -- be careful what you wish for. I never thought, at my age, that I would have to rewrite the history of "me" that I thought I already knew. Previous generations hid these indiscretions. Both birth parents are deceased so I will never meet this birth father -- but I'm glad I found out when I was older so I was strong enough to deal with this discovery. He was a high-ranking USMC at the Pentagon....so there's that, too. And just so you know? You've given us so much pleasure, Amy Farah Fowler! You are a phenomenal actress and pure joy to us! I'm sure our political persuasions are extremely opposite of each other but it's it nice to know that DNA doesn't determine our worldviews -- and our differing worldviews don't have to divide. We share something in common in spite of this difference -- I'm researching my Christian theology deeply. That's so much more important than politics any day! God works in wonderful ways. Blessings to you.
