My dad once said “don’t tell me about any creep abusing you or he might end up floating in a river”. Sadly, I married a few and I never dared tell my father about them.

My first girlfriends father smashed her head against the refrigerator until her head was so misshapen, that she needed glasses. Her father was a monster, he had printed out photos of breasts with hypodermic needles in them all over the house. He used guns to try and intimidate me, but I knew how to disarm him, from martial arts training. I put a stop to him abusing his daughter, and he hated me for it. She liked that I stood up to him, so stirred the pot to get confrontations. I had enough. I stopped her suicide attempt during the breakup, then I never saw her again. This is what I think of when a dad doesn't like the boyfriend.

This scares me, my bf is coming to meet my parents next monday. I do believe they will like him tho

If you’re worried about opinions, you’re not ready to date. You need to spend time and mature and not worry about what anyone thinks.

I know it's difficult to do, but try to relax. Things will work out the way they're ment to either way. That is something anyone can take comfort in. The opinions of parents do matter, but ultimately it's your decision. Hopefully it's a good decision.

I was the boyfriend. Her dad was 100% right. It took a trip to the bottom to figure out that I wasnt "just unlucky", I was a poorly-adjusted tryhard with a shitty outlook on life. Still single, but not looking. Once I have a home worth sharing, ill open myself up again.

One of the last things my dad said to me was that I married the best guy I brought home. I did.

Dads know what's on most boys' minds, as if they weren't thinking about the same thing in their day. Doesn't make it okay. But it's true. Nobody knows males better than males.

No one under 21 should date. You need to be mature and established as an independent adult for many different reasons before you even consider dating.

And that’s why so many of my friends and just people my age I know are codependent on relationships and can’t seem to live with/only think for themselves. 🙃

@@swingingelephant3415 I agree on both fronts. It’s good to get the hp if you will early on but about 95% of the time it’s not gonna go long term or be worth taking it out to that level since you just aren’t mature and don’t have enough experience

I agree now looking back at all the hell I went through. Alot of younger people aren't looking for serious relationships. I was and so I set myself up to be miserable. Younger people also don't have the life experience to choose wisely. Then again even adults choose terrible people too sometimes. Also a person's environment can certainly effect their chances of finding a good match. If all the people around are terrible people then it's a set up for failure or worse. What is "normal" in ones environment can also be awful. And to be under 21 trying to figure that out is a nightmare. It is at any age but even moreso without experience with mentally stable adults.
