@@alexc2265 If ya ask me, MLMs should be unlawful. Their subhuman business practices put poor and vulnerable people into worse financial ruin for the benefit of those in the top >1% of the company. MLMs should be held responsible for the things their hired-but-not-hired 'employees' say to get their 'down-line'. They're scams, they're despicable, and they're ruining lives.

My dad was bullied in HS, one day he snapped and beat the hell out of the biggest bully. When the reunion came around they met again. The dude was calmer, much nicer, but super awkward. He asked my dad about what he does for a job, my dad being the salty southern army man he is said "I kill people" he says the look on the dude's face was priceless. My dad is a good dude, he just has issues with grudges.

@@bax2603 Retired middle school teacher here. Agreed, some bullies are acting out due to crappy home life. Unfortunately some kids are just crappy kids. They become bullies to feel macho, gain status with their cohorts, to feel a sense of one upmanship, and sadly some simply enjoy inflicting cruelty. I grew up (and still live) on a farm. The same thing happens among herd animals, i.e. cattle, goats, hogs, etc. A hierarchy evolves. There always ends up being dominant and subordinate members of the herd. And believe it or not, it's obvious that many of the dominant members of the herd intentionally taunt the subordinate. When it comes to humans, I guess it just shows that primal animal trait is still in the gene pool.

Honestly, I think the main reason most people don't really care about reunions anymore is that they really aren't needed. Thanks to social media, you can catch up with everyone you actually want to talk to from a distance. That didn't used to be the case.

I stayed in touch with about a dozen friends from HS. I'm also friends with about 200 or so on FB. When I had to go to my hometown 3 years ago for a funeral, about 50 of us ended up getting together at this bar where one friend's son was playing in the band. We didn't get rowdy, but we had a good time, and one of them, who had a classic car, drove me to the funeral (I had a broken ankle and was using a knee scooter) and helped me hobble to the grave site.

I feel like that ruins things, though. People being surprised by who people become or actually are at reunions is just part of the value that you won’t get. The conversations that one would have at a reunion and not as a result of social media are meaningful. It’s also easier to pick up an old flame.

I don’t do class reunions. My HS boyfriend committed suicide around 20 years ago. We broke up soon after graduation because the future took us in different directions. He was the class clown and highly respected by his peers. I had absolutely no idea or clue he was depressed or anything. I got married and had kids. He got married and had kids. At my husband’s 20 year reunion we decided to F with his old classmates. So, we pretended that I was actually a member of their graduating class and people just didn’t remember me. My husband would point someone out and give me the D L (teachers, subjects, odd things about the person such as what type of car they drove in HS or a sport they played). It was really fun as we went about fooling people/ then letting them off the hook. That person then joined in on the joke and would help us to convince others that I was actually a classmate and backing up my B. S. With others. Example: “Oh Hi XX it’s so good to see you again! Don’t you remember I sat behind you in Mr. CYZ’s class in 3 period.. oh gosh, remember those stupid flash cards he made us do?”....

Not me but my sister. She didn't even know there was a reunion, because her boyfriend never even attended his. Well she heard a few friends asking if she was going to attend the reunion, prompting my sister to ask "Wait, what? we have a reunion?" and it turns out, nope. She didn't get an invitation. She had to go as one of her friend's guest. Sounds like a mistake, right? Well, when she gets there, several people consciously act like she doesn't exist, a few people seem surprised to find her there. Turns out? She wasn't given an invitation by mistake - she wans't given an invitation on purpose. I can tell you why in one sentence. ...she was on the debate team. Yeah, all the clubs had a little reunion, except for the Debate Team. Only one person from the Debate Team attended, and like her he also had to go as a guest. Then she saw pictures from the last few reunions, and hey, what the heck? There was one for her boyfriend's year. He wasn't even told it was a thing! Of course you can guess why he wasn't invited either. Because he was ALSO on the Debate Team. Yeah, nobody liked the Debate Team. They sent an invite to the stoner who was in jail for grand theft auto, and people who were currently on deployment, but not the Debate Team. That's when it all made sense. Why the Debate Team always had one page with a single picture taken from the beginning of the year in the yearbook. (And why even the Chess Club finishing third in a tournament got more fanfare than the Debate Team winning a meet) Why most of her classmates and even some of her teachers blocked her on Facebook, and (part of) why the valedictorian was booed at the Graduation. (I say part of because the running was SUPER competitive that year - there were a lot of accusations of plagiarism and nepotism.) Yeaaaaah.... I admit my sister was toxic as cyanide during high school (not helped by being in Debate!) but that was still very shitty of her classmates to do that. Apparently they hate the Debate Team kids THAT much.

The one about the guy who didn't know the gig he was working was his ten-year reunion was so heart-wrenching.... I know I've got a lot of emotions swirling around with the state of things right now but when OP said they worked it out with his manager and he got to attend and had a good time, I just burst into tears. And I'm in my 50's and don't really care about class reunions; I'm just so touched at how thoughtfully and respectfully the OP handled the entire thing. Good news/stories are like air right now man, sheeeeesh.

At my twenty year reunion two things happened...a guy we all thought was dead, his picture was on the memorial wall showed up and another guy who no one recognized went around talking about all the fun we had in senior year. Several of us checked the yearbook and still he rang no memory bells. We remembered all the events he mentioned but he was a total blank. This was a small school and our graduating class was only 25 people and, yes, he was there in the pictures but none of us remembered him and even his name wasn’t familiar. It was like a Mandela moment🙀

I (55m) went to only one reunion: my 10th year in 1992. so this was before the internet. I have know idea how we all were contacted. Of the class of 600 some 150 classmates showed up with spouses around 200+. I was a nobody in high school, I had a core group of friends, maybe 10 or so, and I'd of guessed maybe 50 of the 600 would even know me. To my surprise, about 30 people remembered me at the reunion, but they remembered me as a nobody. The thing that really was the WTF thing was that they were all surprised I had a kid. That wasn't the thing, though. I then introduced them to my wife that was with me at the reunion. They were all like "OMG!!!!!! YOU GOT MARRIED???? YOU HAVE A WIFE????" WTF? Was I that so much a nobody that I couldn't find a spouse??? I got drunk and never went to another reunion.

Now their alone visiting with everyone and a lot of their former classmates started hitting on them since they assumed they got divorced... to me that was a funny story. About 5 years after graduation something good happened but I handled it badly on my part. I had recently been married. I and the (Will call her the Ex) were walking around for a while. During this whole time, The Ex kept increasing getting madder and madder at me. I finally had enough and asked why she was mad. LIKE TOU DON'T KNOW! THAT CUTE GIRL OVER THERE HAS KEPT HER EYES GLUED ON YOU THE WHOLE WE'VE BEEN HERE. I looked up and yes a very cute girl was smiling and looking at me but I had no idea who she was. The Ex said that I needed to puy a stop to this right now. I was embarrassed and told The Ex that she was wrong acting like this. I walked over to the very good-looking girl, and before I could say anything she came to me and said "Your J**** L****. Right? You lived on this street, you play football and wrestle and you were in Mrs. B****** for kindergarten. Do you remember G**** N****? I thought back and barely remember a very shy very plain chubby girl. There is no way this sexy girl could ever be the same person. She continued to tell me that the minute she saw me she could remember everything we did and said together. Every detail of school lessons and projects we did. This made her very happy wanted hug and kiss me but could see how The Ex. acting and didn't want to get me in more trouble. She could see that I was really confused and went on to explain. She had been in a very bad car crash was in a coma and lost her memory. She couldn't remember who she was, her parents nor brothers, nothing. There are things she doesn't and maybe never will. But I remember you and everything about you. Thank you, she said. Here comes my regret and should dealt with better. I turned and looked at The Ex. by now she was even madder. Instead of being happy for this girl and proud for myself and find out more about her car crash. All I said was "That's nice." turned got The Ex. and left the reunion. For the next 45 minutes on the drive home, all I heard was "Why was I flirting with her, Is she my girlfriend and every reason I was a bad husband. At one point I had to stop and buy two 24 oz. beers slam them down and now had to listen to her tell me how much of a drunk I am. The Ex. finally ran out of things to say and I drove to her mother's house. She got out of the car slamming the door and her family was outside. I yelled at her "STOP! You are going to listen to me! Once I'm done I'm going home. You will stay here at your mom's. That girl is someone I went to school with that had a bad car accident lost her memory. She didn't know her own family. But she knew who I was and could remember everything we did and said in school. That's why she was happy to see me. Then I was a dumb shit to her just because you thought I was flirting with her. Her name is G**** N**** you can go on-line and check out her story. I'm out of here. Well for the next few days she couldn't find me plus she had no way to get into our house.

I missed my 10 year reunion. I was not in my home country at the time. (Military) While I've moved back a couple of years ago, I have to admit... Due to the fact that two of my three best friends at the time have already passed away, I would find it extremely painful to even go back to my home town, let alone see other faces from my past. I've only been back to my former home providence a couple of times in the last decade for that reason. While I am tempted to make the 20 yr reunion, if I'm still kicking in seven years.... I don't know if I will have healed enough as a person for it by that time. Does the pain of tragic loss ever really go away? After a decade I can safely say 'no'. At least not thus far. At least at the moment I can say I just don't see myself going through with it. There's nothing left there for me.

Haven't had a reunion yet, because I've only been graduated for 4 years, but one night in November me and five friends went to the bar, where there were about 40 people who we knew from school. Former students and a few teachers randomly showed up in like ten different groups. They ended up keeping the bar open an extra hour for us

I went to my 10yr reunion and it was trippy- all the "popular kids" had all sorta remained in the area and were all literally exactly the same as their parents, living their parents lives, they all seemed happy but it was so WEIRD to me lol, totally surreal...I was one of the few who escaped ASAP and had moved away the furtherest and I'm pretty sure I had the most interesting life at the time....now it's like 20yrs later and now I have kids as well so I kinda get it now- maybe I've just caught up finally lol, maybe I'm STILL just way more immature than my schoolmates- they were all "grownups" and I so wasnt- or maybe it's just that the type of people who would go to reunions are just toal normies and all the interesting kids had better shite to do anyway lol lol....but I'm still so glad I went, it was incredibly therapeutic and empowering and validated a lot of the choices I had made in my life, everything worked out yay me, I may have made (a lot of!!) mistakes in my life but at least I wasn't living my parent's life, my mom's life, I was free, I was happy and I was so so so SO very glad to have escaped that small country town...and lol most of all, damn- I'm so very glad I didn't get impregnated before 20!!!😂😂🤣😉

I made it a point to attend my 15-year reunion specifically because I was so heavily bullied in Middle School and a lot of the people I went to high school with were the same people that believe me. I turned it around in high school and ended up being pretty popular specifically because I got out of the ugly doubling faze, came into my own confidence and was overall really nice person. I still really wanted to go back to high school and rub it in all of my police faces that I was happy successful and what not. I ended up remembering almost nobody and the few people that went that I did remember we're still living at their parents house, got fat, or had a fuck ton of kids then got divorced, and overall it was just really embarrassing to see them all like that. One dude however was telling anyone that was willing to listen all about how he was this big shot in the army and was really proud that he had served 3 years so far. He was literally bringing it up at every single fucking opportunity and walking around like he was everybody's fucking hero. He nearly spit out his beer when I told him I had been for 7 years active duty and one year in the reserves before letting my contract end and was now working as a contractor on an Air Force Base in Las vegas. I assumed we went to high school together considering he was there but I didn't remember him either.

A few weeks ago I went to my home town and when I was in Walmart this girl kept following me and like awkwardly going in front of me, and facing me until I just went around her. When I was getting in the car I got a text on Instagram from this one girl who always liked me but only when I had a gf, that it was rude to ignore people. So I have no fucking idea how these guys can recognize people after 50 years

One thing that I think would be a cool idea is to contact your former high school and get a former teacher to do a tour around your high school to show you what has changed and what has remained the same. You could do this alone or with a couple of friends that you had made in high school. This way, it’d be a more sentimental experience and you could really reminisce as opposed to going to some high school reunion party where you would interact with people who you could not care much to see again. And after the tour if you’re with former high school friends, you could then go to a bar for some celebratory drinks in a small group.

Wow my 10 year reunion would fit right in with this. The former "popular girls" planned it to be at our old high school in a pavilion with no electricity for fans, during the summer, potluck style food, no alcohol and encouraged people to bring their kids. Country school with 86 kids in our graduating class with most of them related (cousins). I didn't go.

I know this is a year old, but let me try to explain. So it's not about the people you can fit into a physical room. It's more metaphorical. I'm guessing you're not from the US so let me attempt to put this into terms you might understand without knowing where you're from. You know how there are the words primary and secondary over there? Well, all the people in your primary and secondary are your class. Like all of them lumped together. I hope that makes sense I tried my best. OH NO WAIT IF YOU'VE READ THIS FAR I HAVE A GREAT EXAMPLE I JUST THOUGHT OF! So my class is the class of 2016. All the people who graduated that year are in the same class. The second example is exponentially better than the first, imo.

@@lisachiappetti6092 Oh! That makes a lot more sense. I mean here in germany we seperate Grades (by what you told me are classes in the US) into alphabetical classes. So you'd have Grade 1-13 Class A-Z. But thats cool none the less.

My 10 year reunion was a cluster also. They reached out to the alums for suggestions, and a number of us had moved away and asked for enough warning so we could request time off, etc. We stopped hearing about the reunion. Turns out, a bunch of people who still kept in touch since graduation all went out together, and nobody who wasn't part of their group was invited. Our 20 year anniversary was COVID'd.

Not at a reunion but hooked up with people from my grad year at a party(13 years after graduation) and someone pulled out an album of pictures and I was pointing out how all the guys were wearing the elephant leg bell bottoms, platform shoes and shiny disco shirts and one guy laughed and said “and what were you wearing?”. I was standing there in Levi jeans, cowboy boots and a t-shirt and one of the other guys just laughed and said “pretty much what you’re wearing now”. 30+ years later, I’m still dressed the same way🤷‍♂️

That's nothing, having a child junior or senior year isn't out of the ordinary. But that statement didn't make sense being that they mentioned she may have had the child in 8th grade, which would've made the kid like 14-15 yrs old, not 11 unless it's a 10 yr reunion since graduating 8th grade, lol (weird, but to each other own I guess).

@@CrustyUgg no disrespect or anything but you need to know that not all Muslims are the same, Islam is literal religion not a culture or a country nor is it a nation. In my Muslim country the only thing that is not allowed is alcohol, the rest is a big part of our culture as we love dancing and have a wide variety of music, being part of the LGBT+ community is not really something that is big over here however and blatant homo phobia is heavily frowned upon as we believe in the fact that only God can judge us. I just think that being hated on for believing in a religion is a bit unfair, being called a terrorist when I have never even seen a gun in real life and just minding my own business trying to live a happy life is super unfair. High school years, even though I had friends, were one of the loneliest times of my life. The few friends I had were great but I don’t think I’d be invited. It was hard socializing and I was kind of an easy target (made no better because I was really sensitive and easily scared.)
