How many Quikrete 50 lb. Fast-Setting Concrete Mix bags did you use to set the 6x6 post? Please advise. Many thanks.

@@ReluctantDIYers Understood. I've got two hose reels to mount on two 6"x6" posts and I didn't want to buy way too much Quikrete. According to the bag directions, I would need at least 4 bags per hole, but like you, I am not going to did holes 18 inches in diameter. Thanks again!

@jeffdestes You should be good with two bags. Maybe buy one extra bag that you can split between both holes IF needed. 👍🏼

I used my Dewalt 20v Hammer Drill (I did not turn on the hammer feature for this). The accuracy of the pilot holes on this project is super important.

Nice demo. Now if the F’N hose reel will keep the retraction tension. Mine is 3 mo old and No Tension to retract hose.

I've been watching a lot of video reviews on these, and this seems to be a common problem. Seems they end up not wanting to fulling retract, and when retracting, it's very slow after several months of usage.

Is there a reason not to just attach the hose reel to your house? I’m a new homeowner and not too knowledgeable. Thanks for the help!

  • @ReluctantDIYers

You can definitely attach it directly to your house. It’s a different process depending on whether you’re connecting it to cement, brick, siding or another surface. But you can definitely do so. For us, I wanted to have the hose reel closer to our garden, which meant it had to go on the far side of the deck. I was also planning a fence, which I just finished, and knew I was going to put a gate right there where we could pass the hose straight through to the vegetable garden. I hope this helps! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
