Loving the new format. I've taught first grade for 28 years and followed you for the last few. I love teaching first grade and love your ideas and thought process that goes into your lessons. But honestly, now that you are back in a first grade classroom, I love and appreciate you even more. Watching you organize, develop, and actually use your materials and other wonderful ideas couldn't be any better. P.S. Fabulous earrings!

Your videos are very helpful even for seasoned teachers. Always nice to see a real teacher sharing so many details in her actual classroom.

Thank you for the ideas. We also played hide the Gingerbread man all week long during Morning meeting so everyone had a chance to hide and then find. I love all your ideas and videos. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Thank you for sharing! I love seeing what other teachers do. Our first grade classes also did a Christmas Around the World. I loved your Gingerbread unit. We did activities with several Christmas themed books as well. When I return in January, I’ll do a winter unit teaching about snowflakes, snow, etc… Hope you had a blessed Christmas! 🎄

Thanks for sharing ideas. I have some for next year! Glas to hear (not so much for you lol) that you’ll be going back sooner than me. I’m interested in what boot camp looks like and have some time to prepare or plan before I go in

Thank you, Susan. You are doing an amazing job balancing family, work, KZread, life, self-care , and school requirements. I know it is not easy. Let your family know how much we appreciate them as well. You all have a blessed and wonderful winter break.

Thank you for all your wonderful ideas! I would love to know how you store your materials after the holidays? I have a problem putting things away so they are neat and organized for next year. Love to know your organization ideas. Thanks! Happy New Year!

Thank you for all your ideas! Can you share more about your WIN time? Is this something that your entire school participates in? I think I remember you talking about it in another video. I was just curious. When do your reading interventionists pull your students for reading support? I have many students pulled out throughout the day. Also, how long does it take for you to prep for a week? Thanks again for sharing a peek into your classroom each week. They are wonderful and I so appreciate the time you take to share your ideas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I enjoy your videos. I teach first grade. I am curious about what you use to edit your videos. We had a bit of a longer break than you did. I felt like our Christmas time was rushed and I didn't have time to do all the fun Christmas activities. I love the idea of Gingerbread Man for Fairytales. I also taught fairytales but did not use Gingerbread Man. Great idea. Thanks for sharing I will use that next year.

Honest question… Susan, how do you fit in all of the fun “extra” stuff with your regular curriculum? The struggle is real. The only time I can fit in is when our elective is canceled. Thank you for your time. Merry Christmas!

Great question!! I truly don't often fit in any fun stuff lol - our yealry pacing guide just happened to work out that this week was a review week for math and writing! We kept phonics the same this week and taught Fundations, unit 6 and assessed Thursday. In Math, we reviewed numbers within 20 (identifying, ordering, and comparing), and instead of writing and social studies, our grade level opted to do the holidays around the world! We were already teaching fairy tales in our genre study, so gingerbread fit right in! And then I switched up my normal format for small groups this week and instead of following the format I normally follow, I included a bunch of fun gingerbread themed activities that I showed in the video! Still phoneme-grapheme mapping, still decodables with sequencing and comprehension, just gingerbread themed!d Our class thrives on structure and routine, so we kept our daily schedule the same each day and just subbed different activities!

Thank you for the video, definitely gave me some ideas for next year. When you return to the classroom after break will you do any winter themed activities or just jump back into what you were doing before the holidays came? Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hello! I was wondering if you were LETRS trained? Or if you could give me your opinion on LETRS. My school will be offering professional development in this area and it is a 2 year commitment. Would appreciate anyone’s thoughts on this program. Thank you!!
