Thank you for bringing Ginger’s story to us. This woman is so deserving of a new life and so much love. There is help for her! Thrifters Paradise in Langley is a thrift store that is run by volunteers. All proceeds go to help abused abused women and house them. There is also a grocery/ furniture store in South Surrey. Employees that work there were homeless people who want to get off the streets. They work there and there is a place for them to stay there too. I’m sorry I don’t know the name of it. Please help this woman to get the help she needs, and deserves. Thank you

Thank you so much for all this helpful information. It's great to know that such places exist. I'm trying to find Ginger again and find out where she's at in terms of getting the supports she needs. It's not easy to locate most people again who are homeless and don't have a phone.) I spoke further with Ginger after we finished filming this video and found out she is particular in where she'd like to live and what kind of therapy she's interested in so this makes her situation a little more challenging yet. I'll post a followup when I find her, if she's interested. Thanks again, bless you. 🩷

In the dtes there are actually a lot of services being offered but there are a few issues: 1) the dtes population is growing at a rate that services cannot keep up with. If medical services across Canada for the general population are strained, then obviously that area is going to feel the same effect. 2) Some people are helpless. They'll take the pity, but they don't want the help. They'd rather shoot up drugs than admit they need help. They'd rather choose to live on the street than go into shelters. They don't like shelters because of the rules. Some rules include not doing drugs and alcohol. We get guilted into always blaming the government, but forget that a lot of these people are choosing to not accept the help.

When some children are born their family and community are not loving and caring. When a childs mind is bent by abuse, neglect and fear it takes a long time to change their thinking and self-worth. Thank you for your prayers and concern for Ginger. I have not had any luck finding her again. She gave me an idea of areas she may be in or staying near, though they may change, and she doesn't have a phone. I will keep checking the area where I initially met her (near where she was pan handling. or other nearby common panhandling intersections.) I'll let you know if am able to find her, and then set up a GoFundMe that goes to help with her main needs. (This channel has a GoFundMe on the channel description, where people can donate and state who they would like the recipient to be and how the money should be spent, but not a specific account for Ginger.) I initially provided Ginger with compensation, but her needs are significant and may require ongoing effort. She had let me know after the interview that she had been offered housing but it was not in the right location for her so she turned it down. She was also offered counselling but she did not think it was the right type of counselling for her particular trauma. Perhaps she has been given a more desirable housing offer or suitable counselling by now. I'll let you know. Although the various support systems on the DTES are sometimes inadequate or disjointed, there are some supports that people can take advantage of if they really want. But they sometimes require a waiting period or require too much effort to attain or maintain. The other issue is that it is difficult to attempt, achieve or maintain sobriety in such a drug intrenched neighbourhood. I've recently met 4 of the people I interviewed whose lives have improved. I will be releasing a follow-up video of one of them tomorrow. Thanks again. Bless you! 💗

OMG this poor beautiful soul. I have nothing but empathy for her. Wow. Her story was especially difficult to hear. Thank you so much, Ginger. I truly believe you deserve so much more than youve ever been given. It truly makes me wonder how so many systems failed you. You are such a precious being. I wish I could just drive down there and rescue you. It feels like no-one is taking care of you. I'm intensely angry and disappointed in our political systems now. WOW. Thank you, Elle for such personal, important investigative journalism. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Drugs from China is messing people up big time. The high cost of rent and groceries don't help neither. Some people have desperation from the high costs so some turn to drugs or alcohol to "cope". It's no life for anyone to go down that road, so sad. What has become of our once good country?

When some children are born their family and community are not loving and caring. When a childs mind is bent by abuse, neglect and fear it takes a long time to change their thinking and self-worth. After a history of active drug addiction I am clean for 43 years. To this day I continue to learn to love myself and others. Not everyone just snaps out of their abusive past and takes on a new lifestyle. 😢😮❤

That’s not correct. There are many, many organizations downtown who reach out to the homeless….many of these organizations like The Good Shepherd ministry has volunteers who come from all over the lower mainland to walk the streets carrying much needed items to hand out, listen to anyone who would like to talk to someone, etc, etc. . Bless you! 💗
Only rich people get into rehabilitation everyone else is at the mercy of the system

I don’t think we are “ throwing people away “. You can’t help people that don’t want to be helped. However I think the current liberal government’s drug policies are enabling and encouraging drug abuse and addiction. Just look and how she describes her drug addiction as taking “ meds” when really she is a heroin junkie. The government taught her to think that way. We need to stop normalizing and supporting drug abuse.
