Good story Dave. It's always fun to hear these little tidbits. I was at a bank in LA in the 80's when Bob's attempt to cash a check was denied because he had no ID. You know me, I'm Gilligan he said. They said sorry. He got a standing ovation as he sheepishly left the bank.

I always felt like, and imagine Andy's temper was close to the one he displayed in the film , A Face in The Crowd...especially during the yelling matches... He was great, and convincing in that role..

You forgot one of Bob Denver's most iconic roles which brought him to fame, he played a beatnik character named Maynard on the "Dobie Gillis" show.

Yep, Maynard G. Krebs on ' The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis '. Denver was also in one episode of ' The Andy Griffith Show '. He played Charlene Darlings husband for one episode only.

Lindsey played a good ol' boy deputy in a Twilight Zone episode. He was surly and mean like he would mess you up at the drop of a hat. I remember thinking, "damn, that's Goober, why you being so mean, Goober?" Very impressive bit of acting.

You left out what Goober told Andy Griffith when agreeing to teach Malcom Merriwheather how to fight. “Andy, I’ll teach him everything know about fightin. I was a Bully when I was younger”.

I've never heard this story before. I guess having a few drinks can bring out the brawler in many people. I'm trying to picture Gilligan and Goober fighting in a living room. It's difficult. 😂

These two fellers....Savage. I recently saw Gilligan play the role of Dud. I had a double take.

George is the better actor. I have seen him in a few dramatic roles and he was good. Bob, I have never seen him do anything to test his acting ability.

Man, that Combo pizza at Costco was the bomb! I'd put my money on George: he looks a bit huskier than Bob... And didn't he learn Judo in Mayberry RFD?

George thought he was a better actor for his Judy, Judy, Judy. LOL! Bob likely cleaned his clock as Dr. Gilligan.

Dobie Gillis had been off the air for a year or so when Bob Denver made his appearance on Andy Griffith.

Bob Denver had the tougher job because he played the lead on his show and was thus featured in most of the scenes. Goober, by comparison, was a supporting character, and truth be told, was really there only because Griffith lost Jim Nabors to The Gomer Pyle Show. I've also read that Denver was nothing at all like his Gilligan character. Denver was a soft-spoken, well-read, intelligent soul who actually was a schoolteacher before getting into acting. So I gotta go with Denver as being the better actor. Just my opinion.

My guess would be that it ended in a draw. After a few minutes they both may have realized just how silly they were behaving.

I heard Dwayne Hickman hit George Lindsey with a folding chair and then Bob jumped from the top ropes and pinned George.

I had a friend who met George Lindsey in a business setting. He said from his first words he extremely arrogant and rude to everyone in the meeting. That disappointed me

Goober and Leonard Nimoy were the last two actors considered for the role of Spock on Star Trek. There is a still picture of George in full Vulcan regalia, meaning ears , on the bridge set of the Enterprise. Just wow...🙃

Goober was also a household name,but not as big a character in TAGS as the title role on Gilligan's Island.

Made me think of Horseshack boxing Screech , would have loved to see that fight!

George won the "fight" simply because he was a bigger guy. Let's be honest Bob was always very thin kind of frail.

aka Jerry Gillespie. Dave we know Bob Denver was Maynard on Dobie Gillis Gilligan and Dustys Trail but in between he was on a show called The Good Guys from 1967 to 1970. His co star was Herb Edelman who later on was Dorothys ex husband Stan on Golden Girls.

Back when Andy was still doing Matlock he put out a gospel album. He came to the show I was working on and told our Talent Co-ordinator do not ask anything about the old Andy Griffith show. While he was professional on air he truly was a grumpy old bastard. Never meet your heroes.

George Lindsey. No contest. Funny picturing that though.

When I picture them fighting I just see Gilligan running circles around Goober and no one really getting a punch in. They didn’t really have to argue who was the best actor, they were both great. ✨🥰✨ Thank you Dave for more fun behind the scenes info. 😊🦋 also I think if enough people let Costco know how they feel about the combination pizza it might come back, like the Mexican pizza did at Taco Bell. 🍕

George Lindsey made a cameo on The Rifleman.

Gotta give George the win in a fist fight . while Bod Denver was wiry he wasn't tough. Love both Goober and Gilligan . Bob as Maynard G Krebs is my favorite role. Dave ,about your pizza conundrum, Go to the frozen pizza section ,if there's a brand of combination pizza similar to Costco's but maybe a dollar or two more expensive . That's why ! That company is paying Costco more NOT to make there combo pizza ,but less than what their 's sell for.

In a drunken brawl, the loser is whoever looks the worse and the end. Let us remember this was not a boxing match between two pros.

For what it's worth, Bob Denver carried two successful shows, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (TV Series1959-1963), and Gilligan's Island (TV Series 1964-1967), George Lindsey at best, was a third banana on the Andy Griffith Show, and on Hee Haw (TV Series 1972-1992) Lindsey was part of a cast of many.

😆 I think Goober could take him he was a car mechanic. All Gilligan could do was carry luggage's for the passengers. 🤣

I think Gilligan lost. He might have been a sailing man, but he didn't take Popeye's advice & eat his spinach.

I think Bob won, why you ask? Because everyone in the comment section is saying George might have beat him, but I like to root for the under dog. My little buddy, Bob Denver. 😉

Not that I'm an expert on fist fights but what experience I have with a few is they as I suspect this one was fueled by alcohol. When they are fighting ability goes put the window and grabbing and falling on the floor. Few punches that are thrown don't do much and at some point believe it or not both parties come to their senses and if any minor damage was inflicted someone goes for some ice and a towel.

The real talent was Ron Howard, a good actor who was funny even at a young age. George, if the fight lasted, which I doubt, probably would have won but you never know. George looked like the taller and heavier man.

You probably haven't ever watched Don't e Gillis. There were a couple of episodes, believe it or not when Maynard G. Krebs beat up his best bud Dobie (Dwayne Hickman).

Goober was known to conceal brass knuckles.

I am not completely informed on the acting " skills " of either guy, but I do find it unbelievable that these 2 had any kind of argument over who was the better actor. It's like 2 brands of 2% cows milk fighting over which tastes better. That said, I am NOT a fan of George Lindsey but I do like Bob Denver.

Otis could have stepped in and taken them both down.... ditto on Aunt Bee and Lovey Howell

Goober grabbed Gilligan's arm like Scut Farcus did to Flick and made him say Judy Judy Judy

This is the 3rd story I've seen involving Lindsey having a feud with another actor ,which indicates he was a difficult person to work with. When you hate on aunt Bea ,you are a nasty human being
