Gilgit-Baltistan formerly known as the Northern Areas, is a region administered by Pakistan as an administrative territory, and constitutes the northern portion of the larger Kashmir region, which has been the subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947, and between India and China since 1950s.It is the northernmost area administered by Pakistan. It borders Azad Kashmir to the south, the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west, the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan to the north, the Xinjiang region of China, to the east and northeast, and the Indian-administered union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to the southeast.
Gilgit-Baltistan is part of the greater Kashmir region, which is the subject of a long-running conflict between Pakistan and India. The territory shares a border with Azad Kashmir, together with which it is referred to by the United Nations and other international organizations as "Pakistan administered Kashmir". Gilgit-Baltistan is six times the size of Azad Kashmir. The territory also borders Indian-administered union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to the south, and is separated from them by the Line of Control, the de facto border between India and Pakistan.
The territory of present-day Gilgit-Baltistan became a separate administrative unit in 1970 under the name "Northern Areas". It was formed by the amalgamation of the former Gilgit Agency, the Baltistan district and several small former princely states, the largest of which were Hunza and Nagar. In 2009, it was granted limited autonomy and renamed Gilgit-Baltistan through the Self-Governance Order signed by President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, intended to also empower the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. However, scholars state that the real power rests with the governor and not with the chief minister or elected assembly. Much of the population of Gilgit-Baltistan wants it to become a fifth province of Pakistan and opposes integration with Kashmir. The Pakistani government has rejected Gilgit-Baltistan calls for provincial status on the grounds that granting it would jeopardies its demands for the entire Kashmir issue to be resolved according to UN resolutions. However, in November 2020, Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan announced that Gilgit-Baltistan would attain provisional provincial status after the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election, a long-standing demand of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

After hard struggle and sacrifices we freed us from the dogra raj, we came into being with our own struggle. no one did helped us,due to ideological interest we have affillation with pakistan but we are still deprived by economical social and political rights but government use our all natural and mineral resources and so on but we are still deprived by our rights .which means pakistan did not accepted us heartly.the people of baltistan is true patriot,even they have been deprived by thier due rights by government but they are still loveing to pakistan and always ready for any scrifice.every political party have been claiming that we will make gilgit baltistan a sovereign province but they are always a claim in election season then forget thier all claim but the time has changed.we protest for our rights and the concept of part of Kashmir is not right!

It's not about government...it's about legality of the claim that GB is part of Kashmir....if GB is declared a separate province it will weaken the Kashmir stance of Pakistan given GB can play a vital role in plebiscite

Kashmir issue has no meaning in UNO. UNO is not even interested in it for a moment. UNO has other issues. Anyway, UNO means USA. So, the Kashmir issue is deliberately kept unresolved so that the USA can use India/Pakistan as a tool in the future for their any biggest benefits in the region. A renewed example is the Pakistan nuclear experiment. USA was about to impose sanction on Pakistan but kept silent as the USA needed Pakistani land against Russia in the Afghan war. Just like that, in the future, if the USA needs any help from Pakistan or India. They will just hand over the Kashmir to the respective country in reward

Historically it’s been part of Kashmir under Maharaja who had appointed his representatives called Ra or Rajas as our forefathers used to tell us. This dispute cant be segregated from the Kashmir issue. But yes, if plebiscite helds in the whole Jammu, Kashmir and GB , the people of GB will opt themselves to stay aloof from Kashmiris.

The people of GB defeated Dogra Raj before the intervention of the Indian Army in Kashmir so how would you say that we can not segregate GB from Kashmir, I think our stance is not strong enough. if we accept GB is disputed then we have to deny CPEC, which would be a great idea for our hostile enemy.
