Look up Pocho the crocodile. He was shot in the head, and the man who named him nursed him back to health. When he attempted to release Pocho back into the wild, he wasn't having any of it and followed the man home. They even swam together, and he learned a few tricks. And when the man scratches his back, Pocho would close his eyes like a dog. Reptiles are underestimated.

This Tortoise is the exception, not the rule. Meaning, no, 99.9999999% of the time, Reptiles don't show affection to humans, & Tortoises specifically absolutely hate roaming around freely & prefer to roam the same quarter acre field every day. This Tortoise, however, is an incredibly special case, & while yes, he is definitely a happy & well-cared for Tortoise, his actions & lifestyle are not a very accurate reflection of what its like to own a Tortoise. If you ever do make that lifelong investment, just be ready to own an animal that wants nothing to do with you no matter how much you try to give it treats or whatever. Tortoises hate being touched except on their shells & that's only juveniles or above, not hatchlings, aka babies. So if you're picturing owning a Tortoise as this really cool little friendship where you & he walk around like this & are basically best friends, then prepare to be disappointed. Your Tortoise will start showing you affection, sure, after a few decades of standoffishness, getting bitten, getting pooped on on purpose (yes they will jerk their head & limbs in to force a squirty poop if they want to get away from you), get ready to do things like make special grocery trips just to make a special Tortoise spread, only for your Tortoise to walk straight through it, dragging the food all over the place & most likely pooping on it too. Turtles can be outgoing, but that's a trait they are individually born with. You either have a goofy goober of a Turtle, or you have a regular mean skittish Turtle. The type of relationship this man has with his Tortoise is only something that can happen after about 20-25 years of constant companionship. Trust me, this guy simply got lucky by purchasing a Tortoise on the sweeter side, who must have been treated VERY well growing up because that Tortoise right there is quite possibly the most healthy looking Tortoise I have ever seen.

Wow, Turtle enthusiast here, & wow that is one HEALTHY & HAPPY Tortoise! His shell looks great & his eyes & skin all look incredibly clear! Believe it or not, most Tortoises hate doing things like this & are more like the elderly who don't like change lol. But this Tortoise is clearly very happy doing what he's doing, or he wouldn't be moving a muscle. I bet those random poops are a road hazard though!

Well cared for and much loved Tortoise. Very admirable!

​@@modelsteamers671 You are both wrong. If you knew a single thing about Turtles at all, then one glance at Bon-chan would tell you that he's clearly very happy and VERY healthy. Your credentials go about as far as "random asshole on the internet", so neither of you are really authorized to speak on the well-being of an animal like this. First of all, his shell is beautiful, with very minimal pyramiding. "Pyramiding" is when a Turtles diet isn't healthy enough & their scutes (individual sections of the shell) will start warping & raising up super high. It's a constant pain for them & is usually a warning sign of MBD (that's Metabolic Bone Disease, something pretty commonly seen in Turtles that aren't properly cared for). Secondly, if a Tortoise will A. Voluntarily roam around the town, B. Happily makes the same trip everyday, & C. Not immediately pull inside their shells when strangers come rushing up, then I hate to break it to you Armchair Activists, but the Turtle in this video is almost certainly living a happier life than 99.9% of any other Turtle on the planet. If he hated roaming around the town, then he wouldn't do it. He would find a corner to push into repeatedly until something happened or he fell asleep. Turtles have pretty clear behavioral signs when they're distressed, just like cats or dogs, & this Turtle shows zero signs of any distress, in fact I'd say the exact opposite, that he looks happier than all 6 of my Sulcata Tortoises (yes, I have 6 of the beasts you see in this video). Sulcatas are dicks, & seeing a male as friendly & as outgoing as this at 25 years old is honestly amazing, & not something you will see everyday. It's just so damn funny how you both came here specifically to "defend the unhappy tortured Turtle", but in reality you are trying to defend an animal who lives one of, if not THE happiest life a Tortoise can have. & if you think ANYONE will ever get a friendship like this out of an aquatic species of Turtle? Lmao you'd have a better chance of befriending a giant spider. They are evolved over hundreds of millions of years to avoid us at all costs, yet the one happily walking around in crowds is "a sad, tortured soul who dreams of a life he's never known". I mean literally, he has no idea what a "regular Tortoise life" even is. He doesn't even know what he is missing. But yall go ahead, while everyone else is smiling & talking about how cool this ancient creature is, yall can sit over in the corner, eating wet cigarette butts & tubes of lipstick.

That's what I said! & I'm a proud owner of 6 of these Tortoises! I am not exaggerating when I say that this Tortoise is quite possibly the healthiest looking Turtle I have ever need, aquatic or non-aquatic. He looks amazing, especially for a Tortoise with such an unorthodox lifestyle.

Terrapins are the kinds of Turtles who live near the Equator, in brackish waters (that means the currents go in all directions). Tortoises are land-dwellers, & Aquatic Turtles are SEMI aquatic, & can live on land or sea. & for the record, Einstein, I hope you don't think Turtles can breathe underwater just because they're semi-aquatic. They breathe just like you & me.

Don't listen to this moron ^ Tortoises are absolutely a sub-species of Turtles, so yes, Tortoises ARE Turtles. & you will need way more research than "um u need a light or somethin". You need to do some real deal research into what is required to own a Turtle, & understand that it will be a major money pit at first. We're talkin like $1k to properly set up their habitats.
