My Oldest Tortoise Got Surgery (Ike)

My oldest tortoise Ike had to go to the vet for the first time. He had a giant abscess building up on the left side of his ear. And if it didn't get treated it could have led to even more problems. But we took him back to the vet to update his medication.

Poor Ike. I'm so glad you were so proactive in getting him to the vet. I'm happy to hear his abscess is healing and he's getting better.

Stay strong Ike! He's a trooper, and it looks like the recovery is going well. It was also impressive that he didn't snap at the vet after the injection even though he was clearly annoyed.

Stay strong Ike! It's always hard when our loved animals have a health problem, even one that turns out to be minor. It's especially hard to give them medicine or take them for care, because we can't explain to them that it's to make them feel better.

Stay Strong Ike! I hate shots too, and in the armpit must be ghastly! I noticed Ike got close to high speed escape- for him- to avoid the shot at the vet office. Poor dude. No guy's do well with medical care, even tortoises!

Those injections - I'd be worried they would create a sore area in the muscle after so many day after day. But It's wonderful his ear is healing up. If you can comfortably do the other arm, you should switch occasionally to let the other side time to heal. It might get iritated if continiously injecting to the same muscle everyday for two weeks. I do my own injections and was told to switch every injection if i can, i still favor one side cause its easier to reach with dominant hand, but every few ill switch to give it time to heal better.
