Gig Work Is Worse Than Brussel Sprouts To Me.

When it comes to gig work and being a delivery driver for Uber Eats, DoorDash and Skip the Dishes, I hate it. Simple as that but I know I am not the only one who hates being a delivery driver. It's not easy to be a delivery driver. It can be hard work and not make a lot of money, that's why I decided to make this video to give some insight about it.

    With a MILLION immigrants coming into Canada yearly, these app companies will have an endless supply of poor people having to work for them for below minimum wage. Until we stop this influx of immigration and the government steps in and sets laws on minimum wage app work, nothing will change. I've left App work and moving on to proper employment and have never felt better.

    I'm happy for you Fern that you found something that works for you! I agree with many things you are saying. I am for people working for these apps but FAR TOO MANY and majority don't give a.... about the clients.

    I work at a 9 to 5 and I absolutely hate it. I watch gig work videos because I would rather be driving around than be chained to a desk. I have to keep the 9 to 5 because of health insurance since being in the US your healthcare and retirement is connected to your job. I find these corporate jobs more degrading than gig work since they watch you like a hawk and monitor everything you do on your computer.

    It's actually like that here too , good benefits and pension is tied to a job but we can get them outside those companies but it costs us directly. I've been on both sides. If your market is good for it though , it can pay but that's becoming more rare sadly.

    Actually, your health insurance coverage and retirement savings aren't necessarily tied to a 9-to-5 job. Health insurance coverage: As a gig worker you can obtain coverage under the Affordable Care Act (aka "Obamacare.") Retirement savings: Though you can't participate in a 401(k) account as a gig worker, you can contribute to either a Traditional or Roth IRA or both.

    Wow Ash it’s been so long! Someone I got unsubscribed to your channel! I resubscribed! I’m sorry to hear that about gig work for you. I really do enjoy gig work for all the reasons you mentioned! I’ll go back to you older videos to see what I’ve missed last time I knew you were doing Instacart. Take care of yourself and be safe!!

    Great topic for a video. I can really appreciate your transparency with everything. I'm at odds on whether or not I want to go back to gig work after I get my car fixed. I've worked this job for 6 months now and I'm liking the steadiness of getting a paycheck lol hope you're having a good one Ash!!

    I can't say I blame you Kenny. It's a hard choice but I think just keeping it as side money is good. I'm doing it at least 3 days a week right now and that's what I can handle. If it was more....damn

    I hate it...still doing it because the idea of a full time job is even worse lol. Sitting in an office for 8 or 9 hours is my idea of hell. Doing Instacart in downtown Vancouver, for now as a supplement to pay down debt. Two steps forward, one step back.

    It puts you in control! Gig work is far better than working a 9-5 and having a boss over your head … I know in Missourr or Massachusetts where they passed a law stating that Uber and Lyft drivers have to make $32 minimum … I think the same thing should happen up here And They should extend that to Uber eats and the other food delivery stuff as well … I know it may feel degrading but mindset shift - it could be a lot worse … you are in control and create your hours - somewhat

  • @DashWithAshinCanada

    @DashWithAshinCanada

    Ай бұрын

    So I agree and disagree. Yes I am in control but that's not easy to do, its FAR too easy to be lazy. As well a lot of the laws have shifted and those laws aren't per hour. They are per ACTIVE total hours which means from start to finish of having a order and some drivers can be out for 4 hours before they hit that 1 hour active time, so even $32 for 4 hours is not good. Additionally it's hard to get orders or even make $10 a hour depending on the market so is the control of the hours worth it if you can't make the money?

    I like it cause it fills my time between sleep and working my near full time job. I find I need to work around 4 hours of Uber Eats to replace each lost hour of FT work... so the pay isn't there, but it's not like my employer will suddenly give more hours/money in this economy.

  • @DashWithAshinCanada

    @DashWithAshinCanada

    I don't believe you're being negative, you're expressing a fairly universal sentiment of what these apps have become to us. Your candid elaboration is pure pharmaceutical grade copium 😊 I agree regarding restaurant delivery, I find it very degrading and I will only perform that vertical after dark. Frequently when I'm standing there waiting on my order. I will silently chant the classic prostitutes' montre: _"leave your body, LEAVE your body"_ 😆......😩

    I don’t mind doing gig work as a side hustle. I treat it like a game like Pokémon Go lol just driving to different places and try to find good spots for good orders. As for the work itself, I find it pretty easy since it’s just picking up and dropping off food. If I were to find a part time job to supplement my income, it would most likely just be a crappy entry level minimum wage job to fit with my schedule since I already have a 9-5 full time as my main income. So far my earnings from DoorDash/UberEats is slightly more than what I would earn from a minimum wage part time job. The biggest perk with gig work is the flexibility with the schedule. You can take much time off as you need without needing approval or work extra hours if you wish.

  • @DashWithAshinCanada

    @DashWithAshinCanada

    As a side hustle it's less stressful since I don't have to depend on it as much. I agree to that and I do agree it can bring in more revenue than some part time jobs. Side hustle is a great way to use it.
