This is beautiful coming from the girlfriend of a hobbyist who wants to support his hobby but doesn’t know what to get him
The past few months all I heard was my family asking what I wanted, so finally I asked if they can talk to one another if I gave them a list, safe to say I only put models as I’m growing my collection a lot

It's amazing to ask for! It's the most common gift within our playgroup gift swap every year still, but we know each other and know what they have been eyeing for the past few months in the store. We just tried to find a list of things that wasn't plastic to add to some random family member's pile of shame.

@@thepoorhammerpodcast this is a great list! I forgot to mention that, half this stuff I never thought about
You say this, but my GF buying me the Dominion box was the first time anyone had ever bought models for me, and I damn near cried.
Heresy, always get more models
A little late but I always tell people to get me a Gunpla Tool kit. It's anywhere from 7-15$ and it's got clippers an xacto knife and all sorts of tools. It's great to have extra kits around for when I inevitably misplace one.
I can’t wait for this channel to blow up. Found it yesterday and I really enjoy these two. Binged most of the episodes while modeling and painting up my cultists yesterday
I just instantly think of this like a to-buy list. Maybe I could spare some of my plastic money to buy a few friends some of these
Having just drilled reasonably deep into hole into my finger with my power drill I hope someone gets me a wowstick drill

I've never read a comment and hoped so hard that it was exaggerating while knowing it isn't...
Watched this as a kind-of list for myself, and ended up seeing the re-fillable notebook and 100% know 3 people I'm buying that for, even though they don't wargame. Thank you
Outside of a specified model/kit they ask for, the best bet would be a gift card to a local hobby shop. That way they can pick what models they want, if any - and if they dont want more models they could instead get a different type of game or just some merch.
i've painted more the last week with these podcasts in the background than the entirety of last year, great work
Rewatching this because my mom asked for a Christmas list and I had to remind myself what I wanted

I will recommend galeforce nine's battlefield in a box for terrain and gaming mats. All the terrain pieces are pre painted and decently cheap ranging like $18- $35 or so and they have some double sided gaming mats so you can get 2 different table types in one. I have the urban/rural mat so I have a table for both 40k with my ruins and Age of Sigmar/fantasy tables.
Gift models really shine in Secret Santa events within a circle of wargamers. You have the benefit of people who simultaneously understand what you're looking for and also have the insight to look for creative alternatives (both third party and conversion/kitbash material), especially when the group agrees on a monetary price range and that the models must be memorable in some way (not just another generic hero or chaff unit). Even if it's not for wargaming, if each member of the group has a small stockpile of unbuilt kits, there's also the option of mystery gift exchanges where each member of the group wraps up at least one model kit (usually one they aren't likely to work on) without addressing it to anyone, adds it to a pile, and the group then gets a round-robin pick of what's been put in the pile. This can sometimes be its own source of entertainment as well if a kit or two becomes something of a hot potato over consecutive years, as I've seen in at least one scale model group outside of the wargaming scene.
I got a vortex mixer and magnifying desk lamp. Both are invaluable for painting. Especially the lines on Rubric Marine helmets
I love GW paint handles, but to each their own. Also, I suggest a dremel with variable speed over that pin drill.
My buddy is getting a baneblade for his new guard army. When he saw that disappear off his wish list, he got super excited. I'm thinking models are the perfect gift to get someone.

The problem is when they get too many models at the same time. First it's a rush, then it feels like it is going to take forever and it is a little anxiety inducing. Ps: this did happen to me because my gf and all my friends got me models XD

I think getting someone models you know they want is great. I think they're cautioning against that because they're trying to help people that know NOTHING about the hobby. Last thing a Necron player needs is a random box of Orcs or whatever.

@@FishHookEXEi misread that as "The last thing a necron player needs is an Obelisk" and i fully accepted that as fact 😢
thank you-the Wowstick Mini Cordless Drill is a huge help. I been using a Dremel 4300 for a few years. this is so helpful for just my 3d printing a epoxy casting too. No idea why i never seen this before!
I came up with nail polish storage solution a couple years back when I was looking for a solution for myself. I was thinking those small floating shelves but I was worried about how easy it would be for it all to fall off, and that's when I found the nail polish shelves. They are not super cheap, but man, have I loved them these last couple years.
Seeing as we're coming up on this time of the year again, don't overlook a good space heater, I know I can't be the only person who's hobby space is in an unheated area, garages, attics, basements etc that are either unheated or poorly heated, it makes ALL the difference for me when I get home from work at one in the morning and it's winter but I want to paint
I've heard great things about the GW painting handles. They also have a flared base so it won't get stuck.
@robo-joe6111

I love mine, I have the new xl one that holds almost all bases and it stands on its own
I watch a lot of tabletop tactics too!! They're literally the best
For notebooks, I highly recommend discbound. It allows users to move pages around as needed. I use Happy Planner products, which is definitely more decorative (found in hobby stores), but there's also TuL (found in office supply stores), which tends towards more neutral. I have an expander Classic size for all my tabletop notes and character sheets.
For those looking at airbrushes there is a master airbrush compressor for like 125 bucks that is quiet and does the job proper.
I heard you guys a couple weeks.ago, and randomly you've popped up a few times since then, I've checked out a few episodes and I actually rlly dig you two. I am about to order the pen drill, I don't know if the ones I got were rubbed against concrete before they shipped them to me but I have to press so hard I'm always worried about my.models breaking apart. So when I daw that I got so hyped. LoL
Great ideas. I wish I saw this a month ago . Only one week until Christmas now.
Well I missed this for my Christmas list, on the other hand I have now raided it for my birthday list. Thank you two very much.
so like so late to the party of christmas context but i just found the channel so working through the backlog at random. yall called me out hard. i have had that exact dice tray page opened for like a week or two that ive been wanting to buy lol
I’ve only been to the game store a couple times, and I think deodorant and cologne is the perfect gift cause of that hehehehehahahaha.
That was a very helpful video for me as a beginner, thank you! Someone on reddit recommended it!
great ideas for my best friend for his birthday! thanks for this came up with things I hadn't thought of!
On the end of painting, i got a paint puck last year and i love it.
Coming from Gunpla I got myself a God Hand nipper for nub cutting AFTER I use my cheap nipper to remove the part from the runner. I'm sure other brands are good too, but I love the thing. Cuts the plastic like butter.
Thanks guys, I need this for Christmas and Birthday.... Never know what to wish.
Awesome list in general anytime of the year!
You've never truly enjoyed cutting off a sprue until you've used a Godhand.
Thank you for reccomending the portable airbrush. Gamechanger for someone like me who doesnt have a garage
the hobby light with magnifying glass is a godsend
You can also get MDF terrain, as that's pretty cheap while still being a notable jump in quality from just random garbage. TT Combat has loads of MDF terrain sets, in multiple different milieus and genres. So if the miniatures gamer in your life is more into WWII historicals, post apocalypse, or superhero games (ex: Marvel Crisis Protocol), they've got options there. In addition to the more typical Fantasy and Gothic Sci Fi settings you get from Warhammer.

I know I'm watching this after Christmas and making a recommendation, but a nice one to look at for terrain is called "battle systems," i think? it was first made or commissioned out for a tabletop game called core space and its preprinted card stock now in a ton of styles from generic fantasy village house to weird alien hive or "inudstrial gothic scifi" you get like essentially an entire set in a box

“Oh, you’re like my significant other!” Yeah, I’d be surprised too…..
I've gone through all the Eisenhorn books on Audible, some of Gaunt's Ghosts and currently on the 3rd book in the Horus Heresy... great suggestion!
As a newish player I’d love models! I have no pile of shame…
I have a friend with significant tremors so I only gift models (also I only have one friend I would gift).... My wife gifts me models too but only specific ones....
Foam makes a great gift
This is such a useful video.
The Note Book kinda brought me to the idea. If you know that the person is a bit on the artistic side a Sketch book might be a nice idea doesn't even need to be expensive you could probably even add some elements to for example the Cover or the Back so its a bit more personal even if its just going to get used as a lil sketch collection of planed kidbashes you can peek into for next year
man Vallejo has some of the best paints sets, I was painting my Death Korp Troopers, and was gonna go with the Helghast Color Scheme (Greyish Black, with Orange Eyes) and found myself using a Tires and Tracks set because the Tire Black they had was exactly what I was looking for in the base coat, and it had some gun metal greys that I'm gonna use for the Lasguns, they also sell mud paint which I'm just gonna glop onto the base to make it look like the troopers are foot deep in mud On the Terrain Subject some good Cheap 40K Terrain is Fish tank stuff, a lot of the plants, underwater building and wreckage looks kind of alien so it fits that Alien Jungle Aesthetic (Think Felucia from Star Wars BF 2)
Hobbyzone Paint racks, like a seating in a theater, are the best thing I ever bought
Thanks for the tips just got the airbrush for my self :)
Makin the rounds for Xmas 2023 it seems. I recommend a "nail polish shaker." You can strap your paint to it, push a button, and your paint is mixed in seconds. It's amazing for accessibility and saving your hands from cramping.
@ashtonhoward5582
13 күн бұрын
I don't really get those things. The whole point of rolling your nail polish is to not get bubbles, but all those nail polish shakers I've seen spin the fucker.
Im going to roll my dice on the table even harder now
As for the vortex mixers. I have a weird tip. Hear me out: Buy a cheap china one and solder a button on it. I did that and it works great. The push activation will die on these super quickly (it did for me), but you have to hold them anyway, because they are not heavy enough. Just glue a push button on it and solder it to the activation thingy. Now you have a vortex mixer that works great (these things are not rocket science from a mechanical stand point), and it was cheap. I think I could not live without one. If it is this or the washing machine, I need time to think...
Saving this list for myself and things i dont realize i should treat myself to 😂
The only gift you need the the Gift of Nurgle
A tailoring measuring tape is a cheap option--no customization that I know of, but they are much more flexible, and can reach into tight spaces more easily.
Shame, shame, shame, let the pile grow to the heavens
@39:25 I was one of the few with pen and paper at the last tournament. Then I will definitely notice that I am a 40th and still too little into digital. :P
I wanna thank you for answering that question i gave you in an earlier video. It was really useful. Think i'm gonna go with the Salamanders, seems like every game i play i enjoy being like a warrior smith, i enjoy the crafting aspects in games as well as combat, plus i'm not exactly shy when using fire based weaponry so they are definitely a perfect fit for me. I wanted to lean more towards Iron Hands due to them using cybernetics but considering Salamanders are capable of forging their own gear and what not they basically are the same thing only twice the badassery. You were right, imma just have to put Adeptus Mechanicus on hold for the meantime, Salamanders are by far better starters for my taste. Plus i'm not gonna lie, i like the melta guns. I see why space marines are the go to when it comes to starting armies, I would of gone chaos but good lord i was so divided down the middle with khorne and tzeentch, and that's not even including the daemons. Sorry Magnus and Kharne, You both are gonna have to wait because VULKAN LIVES!
For my airbrush I bought thus master brand starter kit off of Amazon for like $130. Comes with 3 air brushes, some cleaning brushes, and a compressor. It's not super quiet but if I put headphones in and listen to something I can't hear it. When it's sitting on the desk with me. I think just the compressor is like $90
This is perfect because whilst yes I do want more models (I build & paint quicker than I can build a stash) I hate purchasing supplies
I love getting models
Also brush soap
17:13 I know this is an older video but I just wanted to add: Don't get the "Winton" Winsor and Newton for miniatures, the pigment count is lower on those and have issues on models. Their normal (and slightly more expensive) series is ok.
I like the GW paint pots 😂 and i am not a big fan of dropper bottles
Only astra militarum players should ever be gifted with more models…. infantry
Do not get someone with a bird or reptile a 3D printer. My husband wants one and not only do we not have room (very small house), we have no reasonable way to protect our tortoise from potential fumes. Birds and reptiles often do not have ways to filter hazards in their lungs as mammals do and are extremely susceptible to toxins in the air.
My christmas gifts are what I buy myself and give my wife for wrapping. :DDDD
don’t mind me, just frantically scribbling my xmas list for Mr Clause
As someone who loves being gifted minis and feels that the title of this vid is hearsay. It is a good list and if I got anything on this list, 'I d still be happy.

Of course a follower of tzeench would adapt whilst the imperial would be stuck in their ways
Ayyo if you don't want those models, I'll take em. I'll have enough space marines when they blot out the sun
What is that specific mould line remover
my dad bought me a cheap hobby light, around 15 pounds so about 20-25 USD and i literally cant paint without it anymore
Instead of what ill gift i think it will be what i need to get hobby wise
How would one decant gw paints into a dropper bottle? Just funnel it even, even though some of the paints get super thick? 😳
Man all my models have mold lines because I just have the GW tool that comes with the paint starter sets and that thing sucks balls
Bury me with my pile of shame
Idk. I like getting more units and plastic personally. But yeah I always need better brushes and more paint colors
I use a dice tower instead of a tray
Funny some of the expensive end stuff is the same things you need for tattooing
Honestly as long as I'm not getting troops I already have give me all the models but my grandparents aren't going to know what that means
I got a buddy two boxes of Pox Walkers last edition when he was trying to put 120 on the table... this edition you can only run 30-60...still sad about that our trash mob Guard Vs Zombies games were interesting
Not me watching this after buying my partner models for christmas 😭🤣
Never ever ask for models. My mum literally screamed when I showed her my Warp Spiders and told their price tag.
My brother just started and i want to get him an ares gunship for his custodes army but they are super expensive.
I sleep in the same room as my printer honestly helps me sleep better
Screw spending money on the quiet compressor. Air pods pro have awesome noise cancellation, and then you have airpods pro for the rest of your activities.
I am gifting my friends, that want to get into warhammer, with parade ready armies. Orks, tyranids, necrons with carrying cases, and codex.

"You can get them GW branded dice, if they're I to that (findom)"
Please don't get a loved one tweezers for Christmas.....
When people who aren’t into the hobby get you hobby supplies, be prepared to nod and smile, knowing that you’ll probably never use it because it’s likely either worse than what you’ve already got, or just straight up junk. On the plus side, you’ll have a ton of shitty workhorse synthetic brushes that had their tips trashed after 1-2 sessions.
10:40 - I actually disagree. GW pots are GREAT...for THIN paints. Washes and Contrasts are great in the pot since I can just dip in my brush and apply it to the figure, no waste!
