My gf claims she's supports it but has a problem any time I try to actually get any painting done if she's home. Having recently moved I don't have my hobby friends anymore so I've been thinking of just packing it all away for later

@@batingbunnies Definitely try to have a conversation with her about it if you haven’t already. My wife was similar, supported me in liking the hobby but always seemed to have issue with me spending the time to do it. We talked it out, found a compromise and now we’re both happy.

Gift lists don't always work anyway mate. Last night I gave my 17 year old son access to my G.W. gift list... It's basically everything on the site so there is too much to choose from for my kids as they don't get accosted with Warhammer lore half as often as my wife does hahaha. Too much to choose from on there.

"F%$£ING MODELS"? Aren't those normally sold as "Gentlemen's Collectables"? Penny is wise; pounds are saved. Penny's reading on this video is wonderful, snarky and so funny. Thank you for volunteering "your time".

I'll add one thing you missed: a pin vice. Ideal for drilling out barrels, and magnetizing minis.

This is genuinely outstanding - I'd be delighted to receive almost all of these. Fantastic list - well done!

Paint range suggestions: Kimera kolors - the fancy stuff if they want to get into mixing and playing with really high pigment densities warcolours - Like nothing else. Gel medium means they really don't separate and have some unique on-model properties OLDHAMMER! Get the older gamer some Coat d'Arms (shown in vid), or Warcolours nostalgia (not gel-based) and relive 80s-90s heyday with some vibrant goblin green bases.

Pre-made scenic bases would be another good addition to the list - there are loads of styles out there and they really make the task of basing minis so much easier!

I really like that these are actual gift ideas at decent price ranges. Instead of just suggesting these massively expensive gifts.

I once witnessed an elderly women ask a GW staff member "Do you sell knobs?". Turns out, her grand son wasn't specific on his xmas gift list.

Honestly all the different endearing names Penny says can be a gift in and of themselves

Various small (20ml?) squirty bottles for makeup/oils can be cool. Lots of identical jam jars to organise spare parts.

Definitely going to send this to my friends incase they ever want to get me gifts. Although to be honest more models would be great too. Though can be pricy. Plus I only recently got into painting minis so don’t have a crazy number yet.

@@daleklord5670 It's pretty crazy how quickly the number of models can ramp up, I got to mini painting this march and right now I sit on over 2k points of Admech and almost 2k points of TSons with some Custodes on the shelf as a display only project. Also most of my Admech points are in Skitari, because why the hell not... Jeez now I started to think what the fuck am I doing with my time, money and myself...

I was born in Glasgow and moved to London when I was 4. For the last 30+ years I have suffered with a terrible affliction, I speak to my family with a Scottish accent and everyone else with an English accent. My brothers and sister do it too and until today I didn’t think another soul on the planet did the same thing. Penny switching from Scottish to English and back again mid sentence is something that happens to me all the time. It freaks out all of my friends and makes life really difficult whenever I meet Scottish people because I can’t help switching to a Scottish accent even when I’m with friends or work colleagues who haven’t experienced my bilingual disposition.

You should see if you can find a John Barrowman interview. Hearing him drop into his native Scottish accent is just bizarre! I think it’s more common than you realise x

Those poster boards with the hard foam in the middle would be a great gift for anyone who uses them for scratchbuilding terrain. (I’ll come back and edit this if I think of other gift ideas that aren’t more darn minis)

Regardless of my earlier comment... I stand, sock footed, with Penny on this one. Quality socks are always a great gift for Christmas!

Honestly, something very inexpensive that I can always use more of are cheap towels. I use them when I paint minis and put them underneath my painting setup. If anything spills, it just goes onto the towel (I'm looking at you Nuln Oil...). I also use it to wipe paint off my brush when I need to drybrush or just to dry my brushes in general if they're too wet. I know there are specialized mats and whatnot that are probably leagues better, but I've found that this works really well for me and my (scrappy) setup!

bought some Windsor and Newton series 7 000's from this video's recommend. They absolutely blow my cheapo brushes out of the water, like DAMN it's a huge difference. Totally worth the absurd 15-ish dollar per brush price.

I would like to thank You and Guy for all the work you put in to your vids , but this one is brilliant . I sent this link to my Mrs expecting a quick scowl ,, but noooooo she said why haven't I done this before. So again I thank you both for this vid and I'm now looking forward to a very hobby stocking filler Christmas :)

This time of year, there is always a flood of these videos, and i usually cringe my way through them with gritted teeth - Until now! This is easily the best "Gift Idea" video that I've ever seen. I think it's actually *useful for someone outside the hobby* and with Penny narrating, this video literally speaks to our long suffering loved ones, in the voice of another long suffering loved one! :D Really excellent video! Also.. i can't help but think Guy came up with this idea so he could try and see what Penny got him for xmas, using the "but i need to film some b-roll" excuse :P

This is a well done list, only surprised that in the $10-50 range you didn't mention actual novels from x universe on top of the painting books. Also love Penny was the one giving the overview since she definitely has some insight here.

What blows me away. But shouldn’t is that Colchester is only 20 min drive for me. I mean everyone has to be somewhere but the fact that I’m so close to a big mini hobbiest makes me feel less weird

last gift idea is by far the best and most valuable. My wife has already given me a lot in the form of miniature boxes, resin, paints and so on. But by far I was most pleased when my wife also wanted to paint a figure or played a round of Cursed City with me.

Whoah! Nr 50 hit the spot lol, asked my friends who don’t play to give me a self painted mini because I never know what to ask for. Only thing is that it got a bit more expensive for myself because I have to deliver them paints I didn’t have yet

Another idea that's not too pricey is model storage; plastic boxes (made for A4 paper) with a ferrite sheet stuck to the bottom, combined with magnets hot-glued to model bases has worked really well for me. You can get deeper boxes for tall/cav units that still stack with the shallower ones.

Firstly, I've been wanting to get my Hubby a hot wire and rotery tools for a while now but don't know which ones will be most useful for starter tools. Having links to recommendations is massively helpful! Thank you! Second, I'm making a dice box for the Hubby and now I'm thinking of making objective markers too... totally didn't even think about that! Third, time is the big one. Even if it's not playing a game with your beloved hobbyist, just sharing space with them goes a long way. You don't even have to talk or interact with them, just be there reading a book, on the computer, watching more midwinter minis videos...

That is honestly a really good guide, and I really like how you had some really personalised ideas in there. I think any model hobbyist would love to get some of these items.

Thanks for this list. An additional comment about the gift of "your time," a great gift is also "THEIR time," as in, grant them some free time in their busy schedule for their hobbies. My wife recognizes when I need to take some personal time, and always wishes me a happy and productive hobby day after a hard work week.

Brushes are supposed to dry upright, sideways can lead to a curled tip, and sometimes fraying. The pen holder can still be a good idea for ongoing projects with brushes you want on hand

Awesome list, a bunch of stuff I didn't know I even needed. Wanted to add 2 extra ideas I had though: Some propper PPE (personal protective gear) eye protection, gloves, proper resporatior, replacement filters or even a small airbrush fume hood might seem a bit of a boring gift but it's a great way to tell a loved one that you care about them and their safety even if they might not be the most interesting gift ever. I picked up some Kobalt keep bases a while ago and they are a gamechanger for me, rarely use the normal bases anymore and have switched to magnetic paint handles for a lot of my minis, definitely would recommend and they are fairly cheap too!
