Award-winning Israeli journalist Gideon Levy is such a scathing critic of Israel’s policies and outspoken defender of Palestinian human rights that he’s only narrowly escaped physical attacks, even needing to have a bodyguard. But the Haaretz columnist and author wasn’t always like this.
He describes his former self as “a full member of the nationalistic religious orgy [of Israel]. We were all under the feeling that the whole project of Israel is in existential danger. We all felt that another Holocaust is around the corner.”
So when Israel won its 1967 war on Palestine, he didn’t think of killed Palestinians and Israel’s occupation: “We felt that victory in 1967 was like a messianic miracle, and we were so grateful for this. We didn’t ask any questions. We didn’t see any Palestinians.”
Levy was 14 at the time. And, as he realized years later, “totally brainwashed.”
He is now one of a very small number of prominent Israeli voices speaking out against Israel’s assault on Gaza and its brutal occupation. Joining Useful Idiots from Tel Aviv, Israel, he shares what he sees happening in his country.
“There are three things that let Israelis live in peace with the occupation,” he says. “The belief that they’re the chosen people. The belief that they’re victims. And the dehumanization of Palestinians.”
He discusses how Israeli media spreads these three beliefs, and how Netanyahu and his far-right government exploit them to bomb hospitals and humiliate Palestinians on a daily basis without pushback.
Levy sees the two state occupation as no longer possible. A one state of apartheid is the status quo and a one state with equal rights as the ideal, but an unlikely one for now: “I don’t see any hope from any direction. Israelis will not wake up one morning and say ‘oh this occupation, this apartheid, we don’t like it so much. Let’s put an end to it.’ This will never happen. It will only happen when Israel is punished for it. And this is not going to happen because the international community basically supports the occupation. The United States supports the occupation.”
Subscribe for the full interview with Gideon Levy where he explains how young people in both the US and Israel view the war, the horrors he’s witnessed in the West Bank, Israel’s “Nazi proposals” and why the two-state solution is dead.

Don't they ever look inward at their faults (seems not). By the way if you research their Torah and Talmud you would discover that it's not only the Arabs /Palestinians they hate - it's everyone not in their bloodline. Which means we're all in danger of them treating us the same way as they are treating the people in Gaza - obviously we're next. The New World disOrder agenda is coming for all others (Pherisee Sanhedrin Court system / Noahide enslavement Laws). Your channel knows about this but you don't speak about it - why?

HAARETZ 2020 article: Ben-Gurion said "Most Jews Are Thieves". The quote in the headline wasn’t uttered by an antisemitic leader, a Jew hater or a neo-Nazi. The words are those of the founder of the State of Israel, two months after it was founded. Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion was furious, or at least pretended to be, at a meeting of his political party Mapai, in light of the wave of looting of Arab property by the new Israelis throughout the nascent state.

Sen. Schumer, nothing on the Hannibal Directive IDF attack helicopters executed on Oct. 7th?. And think about what that actually means, IDF attack helicopters fired on anything that moved... Put yourselves in the shoes of an Israeli settler or Hamas militant who were there at that moment, as an Israeli "hostage" a Hamas militant just saved you from hellfire missiles, as a Hamas militant you just risked your life to take someone with you instead of just getting out of there. Love and solidarity with the anti-Zionist Jews, exposure and rightful and deserved criticism on Israel's atrocities.

@@ebfleggI noticed those oddities too . He was very quiet for a while after Oct 7, and his first writings were angry and patriotic . Not what I would expect from someone who seemed like they had practically predicted this could happen, who seemed to completely empathize with the Palestinian view . Plus what you pointed out . No bodyguards .. now ? But needed before ? I don’t envy his position And I applaud his past courage and moral clarity … But I will listen carefully in the coming weeks to what he has to say because something has changed and its not clear yet what or why

I find him untrustworthy. Most liberal or progressive Israelis don't usually go farther than calling for more humanitarianism for Palestinians, but still within confinement. They don't usually go as far as promoting their self determination . They feel comfortable seeing them as victims, but not as a people who fight back or resist, nor are they willing to understand Resistance (and Resistance groups) as is legal under international law. (He called Hamas fighters lower than animals, for example, rather than understanding that it was a military action against occupation.) This is why I generally don't listen to or read Levy and reluctantly did so here. I think he is just a softer, gentler Zionist, but it doesn't make some of the more subtle underlying attitudes any less insufferable. Yes, why didn't he call his contacts? Why doesn't he support or speak out about all the journalists being killed? He feels like soft propaganda to me, always has.

10:50 When my parents got divorced my mom tried to hook up with her Jewish boss by claiming she was Jewish. I was raised Lutheran and went to a Lutheran kindergarten and elementary school. My mom was born Presbyterian. Any way... when I told her what she could do with her crap and that I wasn't Jewish I got sent to Hebrew school. And that was the first time I had ever experienced bullying. It's also where I learned about Zionism and the difference between Zionists and Jews cos my Rabbi was anti-Zionist and didn't like seeing the Jewish superiority going on in his Synagogue. Or the bullying I was facing. So I get it. The kind of hate Jews face but at the same time Jews that feel they are the chosen by god and the superior race are evil incarnate, child and adult, and use Jewish plight like this a*hole is as a tool to manipulate and later cry victim when caught or called out.

A reader's letter in a British newspaper 30 November 2023 says: 'Since the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists in Israel on October 7, Jews like me have been terrified to walk the streets of London. It's about time the world woke up to the fact that if Hamas is not annihilated, it will continue its war in the UK, if it is not already here. It's only a matter of time.' This after Israel has demolished vast tracts of civilian structures in Gaza and slaughtered 14 thousand + largely defenceless Palestinians. The sheer imbecility of these supposedly intelligent/educated people boggles the mind. Their understanding of cause and effect is blindly back to front. One cannot even think of a similarly perverse train of thought.

I went to school in the 70's and early 80's. Mostly white lower middle income neighborhood. Next group was Hispanics then Asian immigrants and then black families. Most bullies I remember were white. But they were indiscriminate bullies when it came to race. They picked on the weak. You can imagine from a minority standpoint, that if you were picked on by someone that was white, you would grow up thinking you were picked on for your race. The evidence would be that they used racial slurs when bullying. But what they didn't realize is that it was just a tool for bullying and not the actual motivation. It's probably what this politician experienced. The problem with how many use the racist card or anti-semitic card, is that they base it off of their personal experience and not the "body of work" of the one committing it. It's kind of like a white cop that has had a history of complaints from a variety of people, (male, female, white, black, asian) and then shoots an unarmed black man and the go to is that it was "racially motivated." Legacy media is great with this, because as long as they can keep getting the message out, it keeps the country divided which pleases their government overlords.

@@areal1853 because the school was mostly white. you ignoring the simple fact, shows your bigotry against white people. it's as bad as saying mostly black people commit thievery when it's actually that more poor people commit thievery (for what should be obvious reasons) and black people are overly represented in the poor community. simple argument against your terrible analysis. are there no bullies in the urban schools that are mostly black? of course there are. attributing bullies in black schools to racial hierarchy and institutional bigotry would be insane, but you get to do it with bullies in white schools because it fits your predisposed narrative. you even glossed over that i not only said the school was mostly white but that i said "most" of the bullies were white. your education in social studies isn't worth the paper it is printed on.

States have powers, and duties to protect the rights of the individuals living under their jurisdictions. When they infringe upon individual rights more than they protect them, then the people have a right to abolish and replace the state with something better.
