Giants on the River

James Currie returns to Karanambu Lodge, home of the late “otter-lady” Diane McTurk. There he meets Melanie McTurk, who has carried on her family’s legacy of rehabilitating orphaned giant river otters and is working to expand community-based ecotourism in the Rupununi.

Many thanks for sharing the video. Karanambo has changed very little since I was sixteen. The creatures up in the rafters, with the yellow-tailed black snakes after them, must still be there. Diane is exactly as I remember her from 1978.

It’s a shame how few people have seen this video , River otters are truly amazing creatures.
