Giant Wave Explosions Shore Acres, Oregon October 2019

During a storm or high surf, the wave explosions at Shore Acres in Oregon will take the air out of your lungs! Folks who think a King Tide is needed are vastly uninformed! It's simply during a high surf an event with waves coming from the correct direction that explosions occur! This is one of the only places in the world where water from the waves crashing ashore can reach heights exceeding 300.' To gain a real appreciation for the power of Mother Nature one has to not only see these waves but hear them. For more wave action at Shore Acres check out:

“Breathtaking” does not adequately describe this video. it is stunning. The power of the Pacific Ocean displayed at it’s best. I drive out to the Oregon coast several times a year, though I have never seen anything like this. :-) Thank you for reminding us of this natural beauty.

You are 1,000% right in inferring that music over the video portion would "kill" the video! One simply has to hear the waves to fully appreciate what one is seeing. I just wish I could find a way to include the concussion felt as the waves hit the shore!

The area where the video was created is called Shore Acres State Park in Oregon. It is located about 12 miles west of Coos Bay, Oregon. Unfortunately, the wave explosion event featured in the video, only happens about 5 or 6 times a year! It takes a surf of 18' or greater to get the jaw dropping wave explosions. Hope this info helps!

A lot of people think that this type of event only occurs during a storm which is often not the case. If you check out any of my other videos of the area you will note a heck of a lot of blue sky! So how does one know when an event is coming? I use a website called surf-forecast.com. Forecasts for wave activity for areas all around the world are shown. It is excellent! So, for Shore Acres, I check Oregon South and Bastendorff Beach. Generally, it takes waves in excess of 18' to generate the spectacular explosions with a period between waves of greater than 15 seconds. Lastly, how often does it occur... whenever Mother Nature feels like showing off! Sometimes several times a week but often just once a month or nothing at all! She can be a bit fickle at times...

Could have done without the annoying intro music. It shook me out of the relaxed lull I was in - no point having it on a relaxing playlist. The waves are fab though.

So, you being a big wave fan like me, needs to think about a trip to Shore Acres... 8hours! All you need is pad for chin which may hit the ground when see an explosion that sends water 300' in the air!
