He's mainly using one hand. Do you have any idea how heavy that shit would be? A claymore averages about 5 1/2 lbs and you aren't gonna be doing much of anything with it one-handed- and this sword looks like it weights at least 5 times that! Even though it looked really shitty, I'm really impressed that he was able to do any kind of one-handed thrust at all.

Your largest mistake: *You're trying to swing a greatsword with your own strength.* Heavy weapons are all about motion and inertial force. If a weapon is too heavy for you to lift or even wield properly, you'll wear down your own muscles in your wrists, biceps, back, chest, and core trying to swing it with strength we're clearly not built to have. Most true greatswords should be wielded with the user's body not _overpowering_ the weapon to alter its path of motion, but rather the user's body should simply guide it. More motion in the hips and core, not just the arms. *Use the weapon's own weight to guide into the next strike, applying leverage with your core and hips, and let the twist of your body guide the greatsword.* This is so that way the greatsword's weight carries YOU more than you actually carry it.

Funny enough this looks a lot like the sword I'd like to make myself one day. Inspired heavily by the ff7's buster sword design, but slimmed down to make it useable, barely wider than yours, with a handle just a tad bit longer than yours, and made with a mixture of metals to reduce weight, but keep strength. God it would be great. Sadly don't have the things necessary, or the time to make it for that matter. But the fact that you were able to make a "useable" giant sword by yourself, is quite the inspiration.

Suggestion from a fellow #BigGiantSword swinger - For a better chance to pull off 1 handed swings, you have to work with more arcing in which the end of your blade starts further from your body, usually on the ground. Start on centered over back leg/hip, shift center to other side and turn waist, pulling the sword like as if dragging a heavy mace. My inspirations for mechanics come from a combo of studying taichi and bagua. Alternatively there is starting the blade resting on the shoulder and swinging from there. Both use more speed and leverage to move the blade vs brute strength. As a result the sword will come crashing down to the ground with out a second hand to break or neutralize some of the force after. Disclaimer- we use very different shape swords, basically like comparing Cloud to Sephiroth. I commissioned michaelcthulhu to make a custom design for practice. You can look up a video on his video channel for reference entitled "Sumida Sword". Hope this is helpful

because i've been a fan of anime and video games my whole i've been training/playing with huge swords for about 15 year now, it's pretty much impractical for real combat but its a ton of fun, it takes a lot of shoulder and core strength, and you should keep most of the weight close to your body and focus your strikes with the tip. awesome sword btw :)

Actually a functional sword the size of the one he has is feasible. Iook up the "Montante" or the "Spadone", during the renaissance Spanish and Portuguese bodyguards actually used really big sword to defend strategic points and people from multiple attackers. The trick is in its weight and balance, the Montante at best weights 4 kg and has a balance point just a few cm away from the guard.

If it's still useful, look into zweihander or montante sword fighting. Giant swords like that can be swung in wide flowing arcs around the user to keep multiple opponents away or to protect their allies behind them. They are particularly useful for breaking up large formations of enemy soldiers or holding alleyways singlehandedly.
