I plant pumpkins too before and that is what we call direct cross pollination, but when we chose the male flower, we choose the one that is almost opening. I haven't tried the flower that already opened if it works

What are the soil requirements? Ph levels? Feeding levels ? etc Any good hard specifics? I just bought some Atlantic Giant pumpkin seeds...I'm going to give this a try!

It was a couple of weeks before I had any female flowers but I had plenty of male flowers early on.

one trick that makes any fruit grow bigger is to trim the new leaves regularly. the plant "Intelligence " tells the plants to grow better fruit when it cannot flower more. its more like dealing with an emergency situation. when the plant cannot bear more fruits the few fruits it has will get all the nutrition to make it bigger and stronger. i had once tried it with cucumbers and it worked. i kept pruning the new tender leaves and used it in salads while the plant gave much healthier cucumbers

does he plant after he germinated male and female flowers ? oe it should have been done by not cutting the female one from its own stem ? I will try your description as well ?

he meant to say that bees would contamintate the flowers with undesired male pollen.

Not to many years later and we are growing them over 2000lbs consistently

I know this is an 8 years old comment, so you’ll probably never see this but the cultivar of pumpkin used in this video and by the vast majority of giant pumpkin growers is called “Dills Atlantic Giant”

The variety is called "Atlantic Giants" its the only variety that can get that big

Think of it more as a sport. The gardener has to know what he's doing to get it to grow so big and its a fun challenge and its just cool to grow giant fruit.
