I've heard of sweet potato, I have never had squash pie, here in upstate NY. Even the canned filling around here is 100% pumpkin puree.

The pumpkins are too misshapen I think you should add some calcium phosphate to your water and some other minerals to help keeping the pumpkin firm and perfect looking, also spray the pumpkin with water and some natural oils to keep bugs away and to keep the pumpkin from splitting.

Kenneth Atkin, a few things cause misshapen giant pumpkins. There are 450 pollen receiving buds in every female pumpkin flower and if some don't get pollinated at the right time, the seeds that those buds are attached to won't develop. So, if there are several undeveloped seeds in one area of the pumpkin, there will be a pumpkin flesh depression in that area. There is a "feed-back" process in pumpkins that influences the growth of the pumpkin's flesh. It's best to pollinate all the buds yourself with a feather or a fine squirrel hair brush, then close the flower so bees and other bugs don't mess with it. And you are correct about the calcium needs throughout the growing season. Bug powder is safer than sprays since liquids can irritate the pumpkin's skin.
