Ghost Ships of the Goodwin Sands

Five miles off the coastal town of Deal in Kent, England, lies a treacherous sand bank known as Goodwin Sands, locally known as the 'Great Swallower'.
Often shrouded in mist, they have been responsible for the deaths of 50,000 seafarers, shipwrecking over 2,000 vessels.
Unsurprisingly, there are many tales of phantom ships in the area, the waters supposedly haunted with the souls of thousands of drowned sailors and passengers.
In this video we delve into the mystery of the Goodwin Sands, chronicling several cases of ghoulish ghost ships and the fable of a sunken Saxon Atlantis.
The sands' most famous ghost ship is that of the Lady Lovibond, which is said to reappear every 50 years. The story involves a doomed and fatal love triangle between the captain of the vessel, his newly-wed wife and his first mate. Sightings of the vessel are vivid and voluminous.
What happened, however, in 1998 on the sinking's 250th anniversary, when hoards of ghost-hunters made for Deal in Kent to witness a potential sighting? We cover the story.
The lost island of Lomea, known to the Roman's supposedly as 'Low Island', is a fabled lost island located directly on the sands. Although no official record exists for the place, it is said that the Saxon Earl Godwin of Wessex was responsible for it, and having failed to reinforce and maintain the island's sea-walls in the 11th century, allowed the island fort to be sunk by a tumultuous storm.

I remember telling the story of The Lady Lovibond to my young daughter before 1978. I also informed the BBC. Nothing apparently was seen and I missed any mention of it in 1998.
