Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) was only a teenaged stunt biker when he sold his soul to the devil (Peter Fonda). Years later, Johnny is a world renowned daredevil by day, but at night, he becomes the Ghost Rider of Marvel Comics legend. The devil's bounty hunter, he is charged with finding evil souls on earth and bringing them to hell. But when a twist of fate brings Johnny's long-lost love (Eva Mendes) back into his life, Johnny realizes he just might have a second chance at happiness - if he can beat the devil and win back his soul. To do so he'll have to defeat Blackheart (Wes Bentley), the devil's nemesis and wayward son, whose plot to take over his father's realm will bring hell on earth--unless Ghost Rider can stop him.

When you think about it, Slade was literally a ghost rider in this scene. He used his last ride to discard his flesh, his last seconds to discard his bones, and accepted his death, handing over his spirit to the great beyond. Poetic.

Due to the Ghost Rider re-branding, Carter Slade is often forgotten as the first actual Ghost Rider, not Johnny. It's good that despite this movie's reputation as being one of the "bad" superhero movies, it paid respect to the actual comic book history. That one scene of the two of them riding across the Western desert made the whole movie.

In the comics, there's a Ghost Rider of 1,000,000 B.C. (human history is kind of different in Marvel, there were human-like people around earlier than in the real world). He rides a flaming woolly mammoth. He's a member of the first iteration of the Avengers (that the modern ones probably know nothing about): Odin, Firehair (a red-headed mutant who was the first host of the Phoenix Force on Earth (and possibly the reason it seems to keep seeking out mutant human redheads on Earth), Ghost Rider, Iron Fist (the then-current champion of Kun-Lun), the first Black Panther, Agamotto (when he was a mortal-born son of Oshtur and Hoggoth fated to lay the groundwork for mortals to learn sorcery, before he ascended to godhood), Starbrand (a gay Neanderthal, and no, I'm not making any part of that up), and Odin, All-Father of Asgard and wielder (with a lot of cussing about it not obeying him) of Mjolnir. The comics are called Avengers 1,000,000 BC. Worth a read.

As Ghost Riders change more and more, they learn to control their actions and eventually they learn to fully control the Ghost Rider spirit, transforming only when they intend to. Carter Slade had 500 transformations as part of his contract. Might not sound like too many - it isn't even enough for a year and a half of transforming every night - but this movie showed us how quickly it's possible to gain control over the Ghost Rider. Johnny Blaze transformed like 3 times with no control over his actions or transformation and then was able to influence the Rider's actions, which led to him being able to control the Rider in this clip. In the second movie, his control slips a little, likely due to his self-isolation, but he becomes powerful enough as a Ghost Rider to revive the dead.
Could you imagine for a moment, what it would have been like if we got Blackheart vs. both Johnny and Slade and after the fight is over Slade tells Johnny that he only had one last ride in him before leaving? That would have been a very poignant "Passing The Torch" moment as Carter rides off into the afterlife having helped Johnny in defeating the Devils' kid.

The lizard is reference to a similar scene from Raising Arizona, where the bounty hunter did pretty much the same thing.
This movie was not as bad as the reviews made it out to be, as technology was improving for the CGI needs. This is simply THE BEST scene in the movie for me, and let’s not forget to pay our respects by sharing that they FREAKIN NAILED the scene with the classic riff w/ an updated touch from Spiderbait, “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky”. Carter Slade was always my favorite Marvel Ghost Rider, or for those who had subscriptions in our youth & happen to know Carter by these Alias also, the Galloping Ghost, Night Rider, (or possibly) Haunted Horseman or He Who Rides the Night Winds. 🍻🤘🏼🍻
One thing I've always loved is how Johnny's and Carter's skulls hold different expressions, it's a little detail but really lends itself to how different they are. LOVE this movie

That music build up was just dope🤌🔥
Love this part we got Ghost Horseman and Ghost Rider
I want a remake where these two team up thru the whole movie. This one scene is so badass and beautiful.
When saw this in theaters as a kid it was the best scene
The two Ghost Riders riding side by side has to be the best scene! Thanks Carter & Johnny!
I wish slade would have his own movie
I was impressed how they rode through the desert, while a lizard was burned up.
Next to Wolverine Blade and Spiderman; Ghost Rider is and always will be my favorite of the OG MCU. Before Iron Man & The Avengers, we had these and they all would have made a great addition to the MCU had they went that route. Kids today don’t know what we had growing up, Toby Maguire, Hugh Jackman, Ben Afleck even Chris Evans before his time in the MCU, and Nicholas Cage created the groundwork for what the MCU stands on today. Thank you Stan Lee for this amazing gift❤️
My dad and I loved this movie. He was a Harley Rider and a comic book fan. We didn’t even get that the movie was “cheesy” we were just so hyped to see a god damn GHOST RIDER ON SCREEN
I think this "pass-of-the-torch", scene should have been more, dramatic. Like Sam Eliot's (Carter Slade / Ghost Rider) with more screen time. He deserved it, and earned it. His Ghost Rider was flawless. Like passing the torch in the mid of the battle...

That would have made johnny less impactful, after all its his movie, his destiny. Not slades. Slade knew it And Didn't want to interfare
Imagine Carter Slade, Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes together. They would have wiped out Thanos' Army by themselves
I love this scene..give me goosebump everytime i watch it..i dont care the movie get a bad review or not but this scene is the best..
The choice of music as they’re riding side by side in the desert is just perfect 🤌
this tune with the sound of the horse galloping, and a bike roaring, it can never sound more cooler than that :D
One of the greatest scenes in movie history ❤
Fantastic movie watched it many times & brilliant actors, love Nicholas Cage & Sam Elliot.
Upto this day the coolest thing I've ever seen.
They should have made a 2-hour movie of just them cruising through desert and left the rest of the plot out.

I'd happily pay to watch that.
In OUR alternative time line. Nick Cage's Ghost rider, Thomas Jane punisher, and Snipes Blade leads the avengers.
GDMT!!!I NEED A "CARTER SLADE" MOVIE. STAT!!!! THE WORLD NEEDS IT.
Rewatched this movie. I still like it. This whole sequence with Carter Slade is still so good to me
