It's amusing how much stuff was carefully made for AC3. Obviously that it was the last Ace Combat game for PS1, but it is still amazes how much they did with such a limited hardware.

I love how the PS2 games had beautiful jet models that still hold up And then the blurriest sea/land textures lmfaoooo Disclaimer I was only able to emulate them but still

I never realized there weren’t reflections in AC5 until today. Very odd, indeed.

There are in a few levels such as chain reaction and in mission 27 and 27+, in the city parts you can see buildings and lights reflect of the water. Ace combat zero also had fire reflections in the mission inferno, and ace combat 4 had it in mission 15 emancipation. Oh and every ace combat after 2 had sun reflections.

the ghost jet exists due to reflection of physical objects and light being pretty hard to pull off in a PS1 (just ask Polys Entertainment how they made the windows and bodies of the cars reflected the surroundings in Gran Turismo using a simplified version of ray tracing), this segues perfectly into the fact that in the AC3 JP UPEO arc's sixth mission, Ghosts of the Past or the AC3 International version Maze, you can fly over and around the ravine during the message that plays from the UPEO Commander (JP only) when you get to the enemy base, this can get you out of bounds and lead you to a ghostly inverted version of the ravine from which you can enter through the walls, unfortunately you can only exit by flying below (which is technically the top of) the ravine which is just right above the water (something the average Ace deals with daily) thank you for coming to and listening to my little speech

Project wingman feels like its trying to be a realistic looking anime that is actually good other then the rest, and an arcade like game play with all the railguns and the 9th generation jet boss fights you get, its a fun game, and hot take, Project Wingman AI is more challenging then whatever the hell Ace 7 has for its enemy AI flying straight

2:32 Oops you showed how AC3 isn’t actually doing any reflections! Yeah so it seems like instead of doing VRAM/GPU intensive actions (like reflections off water) they used the PS1s CPU and just had a second 3D model of the plane ACTING like a reflection. But it’s not. It’s too clear, it’s 3D, etc. AC3 is great at atmosphere, and it’s story is quite good, but people forget about a lot of the creature comforts that games like AC7 add. Clearer UI, better graphics (ofc, though in this case it REALLY matters for seeing where your enemy is facing.), wider selection of aircraft which allows a more open ended approach to missions, physics tweaks that (while not as realistic) allow for those “cool flying moments” (i.e close shaves, not hitting downed planes, more responsiveness) to happen more often.
