My brother died yesterday of Stage 4 cancer. Cared for him in his last days at my house where he passed. It was so much darker than I anticipated it being, but I’d do it all again. Loved this song before, but now it holds some significance. While his slideshow at the memorial will be all the music he loved, I’m closing it with the ending of this song. I know he will be with me always. Love you forever big brother!

"Lyrically, it is a simulation of the relationship between religious authority (church or sect) against the small person who can not differentiate empathy from pure manipulation. Everything disguised as a love song." -Tobias on cirice, and this one too it seems, I love how he touches on manipulation and indoctrination so subtly and pointedly, this song tells of the efforts of the narrator to isolate their subject, to make them dependant on them for all their needs, even warning them it's going to "seem" like coldness and suffering, and telling them they are going to "paint paradise" (a simulacra) and going to watch it dry (it can only go down from there) and manages to make it seem almost earnest and romantic, it's so damn clever

I'm with you always, always Now paint a pair of eyes And let's watch as it dries Remember always, that love is all you need Tell me who you wanna be And I will set you free There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love So bold, so sweet There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love For you Remember always That love is all you need Tell me who you wanna be And I will set you free There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love So bold, so sweet There's a darkness at the heart of my love (my love) That runs cold (runs cold), runs deep (runs deep) The darkness at the heart of my love (my love) So bold (so bold), so sweet (so sweet) And all this time you knew That I would put you through The darkness at the heart of my love For you When the summer dies Severing the ties I'm with you always, always Paint a pair of eyes Let's watch as it dries I'm with you always, always

I keep seeing the lyric “paint a pair of eyes…”, but I’m reasonably sure it’s “paint a paradise”. Painting a pair of eyes makes no sense, and the plurality disagrees with “watch as IT dries.”

Paint a pair of eyes. Imagine your love's eyes. And watch as it dries. I.e., dies. Or your eyes dry over time after your loss. Not hard to imagine either way, and both powerful.

I'm 55 years old (nearly) and was schooled with the likes of Sabbath, Zeppelin and the original metal monsters. Ghost have reinvigorated my thirst for new music and I must say that I haven't heard anything like this in my life. While there is a nod to the originators of metal, Ghost do it in a new way that had me hooked from the first time I heard "Square Hammer" and I thank the entire band for breathing new life into this old Dog.

After Call Me Little Sunshine came out, and their live performances came through my feed, I thought it would be fun to see them live. So when they came through this year with SpiritBox (who my daughter LOVES)- I bought us tickets for her birthday. I never knew what I was missing out on. That changed my life… in a way VERY FEW things have. I went from just knowing who they are to ravenously consuming everything of theirs I could- I am so impatiently waiting for them to come back to the US for another tour.

I recently became aware of Ghost through my cover band. We play "Square Hammer". When Ghost released the new song "Call Me Little Sunshine", I thought it was a really good song and listened to it numerous times. I was aware their new album was coming out today (March 11th). I'm on KZread and I happen to see a new song called "Darkness At The Heart Of My Love". Those words spoke to me, so I click and play the song. By the end, I have tears in my eyes. I lost my wife in 2018. The lyrics in the song "When the summer dies, severing the ties, I'm with you always.....always". She passed away in September....just as summer was dying. What an amazing song. I hope the darkness will eventually lift, as I continue on this journey, and also hope one day to love again. Thank you Ghost. Thank you.

We only were able to see each other during the summers since her parents didn't allow her to do anything when she had schoolwork. She even still has a bed time for some reason, even on nonschool days. Idk why. I got excited to see her, but then covid happened and we couldn't. Then her family got it, but her mom said we could plan something at the start of 2021 if they got better. We kept trying to make plans and she blew them off. My mom literally just asked if we could go out for lunch one day, and Jean said blunt "Noel doesn't do anything" or "She's too busy" and would just ignore anything else. Her mom ended up blocking me on Facebook, so I guess we are never seeing each other again. I love her so much and miss her so much. She is my best friend and I hope she gets out from under their thumbs someday. We can't even keep in touch because her parents take her phone. I remember a few years back being so happy about graduating because we could always see each other since we'd be out of school. Now that I'm almost 19, I see how that turned out. Also, even the last time we saw each other. As we were hugging goodbye that night, I started crying (I hid it enough and held it in enough so that nobody noticed) because I had a feeling that was gonna be the last time that summer. We only saw each other 3 times that summer, for less than the amount of hours in a day in total...I was so upset that it would be the last time that summer. If I had only knew it would be the last time...I wish I had let myself cry on her now.

My path serpentine Remember always that love is all you need [Pre-Chorus] Tell me who you wanna be and I will set you free [Chorus] There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love For you [Guitar solo] [Verse 2] Will you spill the wine? To summon the divine I'm with you always, always Now paint a pair of eyes and let's watch as it dries Remember always that love is all you need [Pre-Chorus] Tell me who you wanna be and I will set you free [Chorus] There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love So bold, so sweet There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love For you [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] Remember always that love is all you need Tell me who you wanna be and I will set you free [Chorus] There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love So bold, so sweet There's a darkness at the heart of my love That runs cold, runs deep The darkness at the heart of my love So bold, so sweet And all this time you knew That I would put you through The darkness at the heart of my love For you [Outro] When the summer dies, severing the ties I'm with you always, always Paint a pair of eyes, let's watch as it dries I'm with you always, always

You get the message more than some other people I think. What’s sinister about this song is that the implication is that unlike your relationship, there will be no closure to the kind of “love” that is alluded to in this song. You belong to this person or idea now, you were made to cast everything else aside. They own you. Brilliant stuff.
