Ghana the African Dumping Ground of the Worlds Toxic E-waste

Toxic chemicals fill the air at a scrapyard near Ghana's capital, Accra. The long-term effects of contamination could have serious consequences for the district of Agbogbloshie; chronic pain, stillbirths, a polluted food chain - and cancer. Dangers that could affect people for generations to come.

These places you mention are the ones contributing the waste to africa also. They looking to offload it there. Aaron URIAH YASHARAHLA, you are absolutely right!! The problem is that in spite of this tremendous opportunity for a new more progressive and sustainable type of growth, African has ONE singular problem upon which all of its other problems hinge: It's WEAK, SPINELESS, CORRUPT AND SOLD OUT LEADERSHIP. If not for that so much could be done to bring about a TOTAL transformation of Africa and her people.

I am from Ghana and I think the media misleads people sometimes. The world didn't dump these e-waste in Ghana. Ghanaians in the West Ships these secondhand/used computers, radios, fridges etc to their families back home in Ghana. What we need is a recycling site which is in building and almost completed. Please, let's stop misleading people. Those burner boys go about buying the wastes from households in Ghana. It's a common practice here.

Do you really think that such surplus recycling company being set up can solve that? I was there last December and to just pass near by to go to the national hospital is a disaster! Smoke harmful chemicals filled everywhere in the skies and so disgustingly smells badly especially a river in the middle of the city goshhhh. And besides tons of waste are being shipped to that part of the world on daily basis yet this stupid politicians are doing nothing to stop it.... So just stop it the white man and the African politicians are all in colution in destroying that part of the world.

African Governments needs to do something about this, farm an emergency bill to cover the cost. These men needs proper gears to protect themselves to do this kind of work. That landscape needs to have border walls. They need to move the communities to a safe distance for when burning those waste and have only workers go there. Those in power always wait till things get worse and out of control till it affects them for them to do something about an issue. Those group of people are having children in that condition eventually it will spread to other communities.

These same people could be working in hotels and restaurants on that land instead of burning off metal for pennies. They appear to be very hard working and they deserve better from their leader. If the president is serious about the Return, he will stop this poisoning of the environment.

As I see, most of the commenters really don't care. We should be offering solutions to process the waste material in a safe manner. Also, start a petition for the government to make this an illegal operation, "Burning E-trash." If burning E-Trash is the only option, then govern the pollution emissions from only a smoke stack plant environment. I know there are certain smoke stack manufacturing operations, which are energized or coat with certain material to attract certain chemical elements that collect the toxic fumes and not allow it to disperse in the air.

And alas please stop posting this useless video interviews! Bring facts and stories that will benefit the many young minds around the world! Watch out coronary virus is threatening the very existence of mankind globally! And mum Dr.', you can spend your precious time by posting meaningful video on such issue instead of these boys who feels somebody owes them something! When l was growing up in Kumasi in the 60s, l was told " Life is what YOU make it"! That is very True today! l started working as a messenger at Audit Service and Attending part time College to learn Accounting! Humble and Serious! Thanks
