LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, COMMENT!
Episode #3 is all about reshaping the head on our Rickenbacker Kit Bass Guitar. We cut up the existing head, plug the tuner holes, add some wood, and reshape it on the bandsaw. After some sanding we are ready to move on to the next step… Stay tuned and join us each week!

I was imagining you had some ancient strapping technique taught to you by a ninja luthier up in the mountains. But no, exercise bands :) :)

Great work modifying the headstock, and dont worry about "ok", ive realised over the last year of editing my footage that i say "so" way more then i should... 😂

I think it was good idea to use the larger dowel. They're almost never exactly the right size! Nice job brother! ✌️🤍

Yeah, that totally worked out, thank you!

Great progress, I’m with Scott, veneers are the way to go, paint will sink eventually and the end grain from the dowel will soak it in too

Absolutely right, I discovered that the end grain on the dowels would definitely be an issue. The veneers were the right way to go!

Unless you do a really good job of filling and leveling, seems and grain might show through paint. If you did veneer the head, that issue would be less trouble. I couldn't tell how clean those joints were, it may not be much of an issue.

I think you are right. The joints are pretty tight, but I think the circular plugs would show through a little. I'm going to try putting a veneer on the front for now, maybe on the back if all goes well. Thanks for the input!

It's fairly crazy and annoying just how hard it is to make all this little imperfections disappear. My immediate reaction was "Why?!?" Then immediately thought it was a good idea. And really not a lot of work. I'm loving watching the show, yer kid has great personality too. I'll be anxious to see what you do.

@@BoneheadGuitars you are so right! Those imperfections would have driven me crazy. When I finished my last bass build, I played it for a year and then I sanded it down and refinished the body because there were little things that drove me crazy. I just started adding the veneers and I think that will be a relatively easy way to make sure the plugged holes don't show up. I think it was the right thing to do, because I could see the glue moving through the end grain of the plugs, that would have probably sucked up the paint if left them uncovered.

I'm still trying to master all that nonsense, but I bet the plugs would have been trouble.
