Remember this is After Sherman not before.
The re-enactors - Union and Confederate - are teachers of our history ! The parade, led by fifers and drummers, illustrates to me the job of my great-great grandfather..a fifer in the Union Army. He marched in the Grand Review in Washington D.C. after the Confederate surrender.

I used to be a Civil War reenactor I was with the 12th NJ Co. C we marched with the Delaware battalion under General Pickett I really enjoyed marching in Gettysburg for the Remembrance day Parade
Wow, I've got goosebumps all over me now. This really is impressive. Greetings from the Netherlands. What a pity that we don't really remember important wars like there back in Gettysburg. Again, not for what they did or what they taught. But the courage, and what they offered therefor.

@j.igrant6949

@@staying_spooky Actually that's one of the things that I find very interesting about the American military. During the Civil War, the army was mostly made out of volunteers and militia who volunteered/drafted to fight for the Union. These were normal civilians with other professions who took up arms to fight for what they believed in. Them marching or "Uncoordinated walking" as you put it reminds me that they are civilian soldiers first and foremost. Nothing beats British pomp and military parades but there's something unique to the way the Americans march, as if they are casually strolling which is less intimidating but shows off as a sort of peaceful/friendly soldiers who are only called upon to restore the Union and defend their country. It's obviously different now since the US military is moving towards a more professional standing army and their mission has somewhat changed... but their humble history still shows through their drills and parades. Or it could be just me overanalyzing and the reenactors just suck at marching

Hearing the musicians sends chills down a history lover's spine. Imagine what the Grand Parade in Washington must have been like in 1865.
I was in the army for 15 years and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. The colors and appearance of our dress uniforms are directly modeled after the uniforms the union army wore in the civil war, I take great pride in that.
Beautiful and Impressive parade, 21 Gun salute from México.

I think there should be representatives of the black legion? for example the 54th Massachusetts Regiment . they are very famous
God Bless the Union Army.
surely the south would have won if they were fighting that bunch lol, jokes asside it still gives me goosebumps, it's hard to imagine how fearless these men would have been to stand in line with full regiments face to face and engage in battle with each other with nothing but empty fields and snake fences and short stone walls between each other, the artillery they would have faced and the shot types used like canister shots and full companies of southerners with buck n ball, baillonets ...would sure strike fear in any modern man, those union guys back then were sure real hard, the CSA too.
Wow!
