Smiling with my coffee again. Love my big shot and JUST purchased a magic mat (in route through mail). Loved your video anyway. So cute! when you were looking at the pinecone emboss. Reminded me of Tim Holtz when he does something and it is amazing and he reacts to it with heart felt surprise. A true creative soul reacts like that!! :) There is JOY in the learning experience. Off to do winter clean up. Weather is calling for 6-10" of snow tonight on our mountain. Love winter - just a little TOO early this season!! :( Thanks again sweet girl.

I tried the dollar tree mats and they came apart.The Magic Mat is a winner.

Enjoyable video! Try your stencils for embossing. It gives another dimension in your crafting. I own a Fun Stampers Journey Platinum 6. One day, I will get the new Spellbinders base plate with the shims. For now, I use the embossing plate with my Big Shot and all of the folders that need it. I label my folders so I remember which ones need that mat.

I'm new to this paper craft. After purchasing an electric Gemini I bought several 2D and 3D embossing folders from a variety of companies (none were cheap!). Turns out I hated the Gemini so replaced it with the Platinum 6. I'm trying to use the 3D Simon Says Stamp and 3D Spellbinders folders in the Platinum 6, but they are too thick - can't get them through the machine (and don't want to try and force it). Am I stuck with a bunch of 3D folders that I'll never be able to use??? Yikes! Suggestions, please and thank you! This was a really helpful video, glad I found you.

I have 3D Embossing folders, but really don't use them. I have an Empress Cutting Machine, which has no instruction manual. I also have the silicone matt, but don't use that either. Guess there's a lot I'm not using. Mostly just use it for die cutting, but apparently I'm using it the wrong way. As long as it cuts, that's all I'm concerned with. Thanks for sharing, Mary.

You may be using it the correct way. Some machines have different sandwiches so if you're getting cuts, you're good

I will try that next. I noticed that my top plate has not gotten any marks at all yet so I presume it will last a while.

For the blk 6 machine, is the entry die cut part the same size width as the bigger spellbinder machine? If so can I buy longer plates for longer slim line dies?

I don't believe it's as wide, but if you pull up them side by side on the website it will show you the specs.

Thanks for another great video, but what makes this machine better than other manual die cutting machines? Is it the plates? I am on my second big shot - the first one broke when I overloaded it, oops! I am wondering if I just got the different plates if that would make a big difference? I can't seem to keep up with all of the new machines and what makes them different. Thanks for any feedback you might have.

I think most of the manual machines cut pretty much the same. What I was super excited about was using the magic mat and not having a plate warp On me. So if I had to narrow it down 21 specific thing I would say using a cutting Matt instead of two cutting place is the way to go.

Mary, have you tried the Gemini? I have the new Gemini 2 which Wrecked its’ plates from the first use. The CC’s own official dies scarred the plates so badly (with CC’s exact sandwich) that then the plates reproduced the scars onto every subsequent project. This is from day 1. (I will have to write them, but looking for a place to move/packing. )

Oh no! Scrapbook.com sells a magic mat for the size of the Gemini 2 and that might save you a ton on cutting plates if you try it. The link is under the magic mat link in the description

@@marypolancodesigns Thanks, I’ll have to try that after I move ($). I was going to try my Dollar Tree mats, selecting how many to use with a caliper, as someone suggested, but a commenter here said that those mats didn’t work. Thanks again for all your research and caring.

@@Denise11Schultz You might do fine with a cutting mat at your local craft store too, just trim it down to size. I'm not sure if it's cheaper but I'm sure the quality is good.

That's a tough question to answer because I don't know your crafting needs. A die Cutting Machine is amazing if you have Dies for Sentiments, shapes, or stamped images. Personally I have both and have very different uses for both. My die Cutting Machine recommendations are: Manual machine (you crank it through) is the Spellbinders Platinum 6: shrsl.com/49ym1 Electric Machine (push a button and it runs throug) is the Sizzix Switch: shrsl.com/49ylx

I think I started to use my Guillotine but that wasn't working so I went to my Tim Holtz Shears.

Would this be a good machine for a beginner? I’m trying to save for a die cutting machine and a Misti stamping tool i love the hobby but I didn’t realize how expensive is to start from zero.

Yes I think this is a great machine to start with. You can even check out one of the bundles where you can get Shape dies to be added for not that much more. I think a die cutting machine is a staple in this craft. And I don't say that about a lot of products. But don't feel overwhelmed and make sure you build up your stash slowly. You don't need everything. Figure out what your taste might be leaning towards And then you'll know what you want to invest your money in. I hope that helps

My Platinum 6 is approx 7 yrs old, I call it my toaster due to its folded shape! I do have an issue with 3D folders. My malchine didn't come with so many plates so I'm wondering if I could purchase and use them in my machine or is the newie a different design.

Yes, they have the complete set for the Platinum 6 on the Spellbinders site. I have the larger machine but they don’t have the set for my machine, yet! But I keep looking…

I am sure I posted it, but it looks like it was removed. Maybe because there is a price difference and I mentioned that?? But again, thank you 👍
