I had the same problem taking pictures with the GBA SP. You can press select to invert the image upside down, if you didn't know that. It's still awkward to frame, but it works just fine.

you can also change the palette on the game boy color / game boy player using d pad and or B. that way you just choose the one that best suits you and that way you avoid editing

Those pictures look great, the boat literally looked like some gbc cutscene picture

When you press select, you can flip the picture while you are taking it

Man, back when this came out, it was absolute magic. I spent many, many, many fond hours tinkering with pictures and time-lapses of shadows moving across the yard.

"It's a geiger counter. I was called over from the EPA to take some readings to validate some radiation reading anomalies that have been occurring in the area." I'm sure that would have mortified that lady. lol

The image quality of that gameboy camera may be low, but the quality if your guys’ videos went through the roof! Thoroughly entertaining video, very well put together and produced. Hats off

Actually, it works on Windows 98 and 98 SE as well! :) I have the MadCatz PC Camera Link Cable, though I have to admit that I haven't used it very often in recent years. XD

I had that cable!!! It never worked tho. It would think it was transferring but just give me an image full of question marks.

That's simple enough: get a Super NES and a Super Game Boy, plug the Game Boy Camera into the Super NES, and record footage of the Super NES's video output via some capture card. :D It can be used like a very low-FPS webcam that way!

The gb camera is awesome! I wrote one of those programs to extract bmp files out of gb .sav's and I use the "Mega Memory Card" to extract the save files and the "Ems flash cart" to transfer it to an sd card. You said those can be pricey but you're using a GameCube + Game boy player + Action replay. Maybe the real problem to my approach is to actually find the items for sale. Anyways, my software generates indexed bmp files that allows you to change the palette without doing anything weird. That's great man, literally just bought a Gameboy Camera 2 days ago to complete my Gameboy Printer that I've had for years and years

This is one neat little device. I remember how I enjoyed to work with this thing as a teenager. Even did fascinating stop motion stuff, that I sadly never recorded onto anything. Anyway, this thing still emits some weird fascination. Working with the absolute bare minimum needed for photos really is something, and the esthetics are unique. I am thinking about starting to take my good old Game Boy with me everywhere and take well adjusted pictures of stuff. It only holding 30 pictures gives it an even bigger challenge. Putting out a collage after years would be a nice thing.

Ya immediately reminded me of IronicSans and his color GBCamera photo. The pure black and white bitmaps would come in handy for making color photos.

For a device that's so outdated this is really interesting to watch on ways on how it does and dosent look good at times.

Those sticker prints the GB Printer made were pretty good. There is still a picture of my Mom on the back of her desk from my old gameboy camera I had as a kid.

The asmretro altane can dump the SRAM as well. I use my atlane for capturing Gameboy camera pictures. The software supports several different color palette

Nice video. I did a music video a couple of years ago where I used a game boy camera to shoot video with it. It was a fun experiment since I had no knowledge on how I was suppose to do it.

To get my photos off my gameboy camera I used a Madcats Camera Link. It is a GB-25pin Parallel port cable that runs in windows 98, I just dumped the photos and used a flopy disc to get the files onto my main machine (with a USB floppy drive). It works quite well, I have 2 boxed ones in my collection. However if I had have known about this solution I would have not bothered with tinkering with old PCs and Laptops to get the files and just used that.

If u have a flash cart, I heard you can put a gameboy camera ROM on it, and use a link cable to transfer pictures from a gameboy with the camera to the link cart. From there you can just rip the save file from the flash cart on ur computer and extract the pics from there. I haven’t tried this yet, but I sure want to !

I went the extra mile and used Japanese exclusive photo borders/frames (of which I found on TCRF) on my pics and added them in while editing the color palette.

I honestly think this is really cool

There's a camera app i use called Retroboy, it has a game boy mode. It has other retro shooting modes as well (pxl-2000, amstrad cpc464, roy lichtenstein, etc.). I would recommend it. This is a much easier way than doing all this stuff, unless you really care about getting authentic gameboy camera photos. You can get it on the fdroid app for free.

WULFF DEN I guess i'll be a quitter in this situation. Not all of us have the money and time to spend aquiring authentic gameboy camera pics. That's why we watch you do it :)

To use the SP upside down, flip the image from the Select menu.

I use an arduino nano. Cut a link cable and solder 4 of the wires to the arduino nano. This way you can use the print function to send the hex code to the pc and decode that to an image.

This Was awesome

If you used a Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP GBA Game Cartridge Changer by Gamester it adds a 3 cartridge slot on the top for the camera to slide in perfectly

It's really Gun to go out and take Pictures with the Game Boy Camera, I do that a lot. But I dump my Pictures with an (inexpensive) Card Dumper end extract die Photos from the Savefile itself. Also, try to do some Color Photos with the Game Boy Camera. Its not easy, but the Outcome is great.

I was looking for years for a good, affordable solution and finally found one in J.Rodrigo's Cart Flasher. It's all you need to rip the .sav file with the images and it's only 37 eur on Tindie (shipped directly from the guy who makes it). There's a few reviews of it on KZread but in short it works great, and it's fast. Plus you can backup Game Boy save files with the same device if you're so inclined!

i thought you where gonna strap that gameboy take 3 pics in RGB filters and then use those three pics to correspond to each colour and then have coloured gameboy pictures, and you know getting the most out of that camera... but this is cool too since the process of getting just one image out of that is pretty hard too x)

I just bought a Japanese Gameboy Camera & it has the previous owner's pictures on it. I'd like to keep those somehow, but I don't have an elgato or the Action Replay. I have a Super Nt, & I was hoping it had some sort of screenshot function but it sadly does not...

you can put it on a snes with gameboy adapter card and use it on a tv, soo if you have a portable power and mini display and a snes console with you outside...... :)
