I have a Focus Jam2 Pro 29 and it didn't come with a Shimano manual. I'm glad the W013 error is common if you turn it on while on the bike with your foot on a pedal. I was worried mine was too sensitive or something. I love the Di2 integration, especially the torque cutoff in between shifts in Trail and Eco mode. I don't know if I could ever go back from having the Di2.

I love my Shimano E8000. The power assistance is more subtle, if that's a thing, than the Bosch system. The Shimano feels more like riding a mountain bike that has magical power as opposed to the Bosch that feels like you are riding a mountain bike with an electric motor....which isn't a bad thing ... fortunately I have one of each ... Bosch hardtail and Shimano dualie.... the n+1 rule still applies to e-mtbs!

I also have a Merida e160 900e regularly ride with others on Levo 2019 and the giant 2019 trance e+0 pro, the Merida is quicker at climbs and downhill, and the Shimano is quieter than both. Having said that they are all at least 20kg heavier than I am, so if you are over 90kgs you might need the extra torque ;)

@@derekharper6031 I rode a Shimano powered Intense Tazer back to back with 2019 specialized levo. I found the levo to be quieter than the Shimano and I also Trek Powerfly. The levo was quieter than both of the others. Of course it's possible that different bikes are different sound levels and there have been some design changes on the levo to make sure it is quieter than the 2018. Based on my test rides I decided to get the levo because I thought it was the best-performing Electric System available at the time.

@@biketothetop Interesting and wondering how much the frame, tube design and material carbon on the Tazer and Trek (and odd battery compartment on the tazer) adds to the reduction or increase in noise levels?? I wonder if the various shapes of frame tubes etc can cause the sounds to amplify or resonate the motor sounds at the bottom (like a trumpet) and all the comments on one motor manufacturer being louder than another are more a cause of the trumpet type effect vs the actual standalone motor noise? Hmmm

@@derekharper6031 noise and vibration are always a function of the system of components. . The material stiffness, mass, and shape all the outcome, so I think where you were headed with this is correct, that is, it matters about the whole bike and how all the parts are put together, so it's not appropriate to make an assessment solely on the individual components by themselves. Regardless of the noise situation, I just didn't want the Shimano motor because the levo motor has about 30% more torque-- that's a big deal! I did my demo rides and posted some videos on my KZread channel. I felt firsthand what a difference that extra torque makes on steep loose Rocky hill climbs. my eBike Demo Rides (all mfgr): kzread.info/head/PLZEb8ngMuMU1LE6-QqRLc8pXbrlydECPm I continue to cherish my levo for its performance climbing rough Rocky Terrain. It has a temp sensor, but not on the display, except in extreme circumstances, but I've never seen the W010 error personally. I have noticed that under Boost mode in extreme conditions over long periods of time that the motor seams to be reduced in power, like a governor, until I ease up or go into trail mode and let it cool down. It could be battery saturation, I don't know, but the power will feel like it's been temporarily reduced 25% in this scenario.

I know it's a late answer, but for you or anyone else interested, the reason is for the battery's management system to balance all of the cells properly - the bike battery is a pack full of smaller battery cells connected together, all the battery cells need to be more or less equally charged for best battery performance and lifespan. Letting it charge the first time for as long as it needs allows the battery management system (some electronics components in the battery pack) balance all of the individual battery cells until they are all equally charged as described above. After the first time, the battery cells should stay more or less in balance as long as you don't drain the battery totally to zero - *not* draining the battery below 20% is usually recommended.
