Clip Studio Paint is one of the most robust painting programs I've ever used. But it can be a little overwhelming at first glance, so my aim for this tutorial is to help beginners distinguish which parts of Clip Studio's user interface they need to know so they can get started drawing right away.

I just picked up clip studio and I haven't done digital art since the mid 2000s with a bootleg copy of PS7. This guide and the other video you did on useful tools has been soooo helpful!! You presented it very well and I am looking forward to applying this information to my next piece.

FYI: the Modeller is kind of a misnomer. You can't model anything in it, like you would in any 3D software. It just allows you to set up an existing model. However, personally, I never understood it's purpose. Any 3D object that is in .OBJ or .STL format can be dragged directly on the canvas, which automatically creates the relevant perspective ruler. Try to keep the model as low poly as possible, because large and detailed models will bring CSP to a halt if you're not careful.

  • @madameberry

I haven't used Modeler, so I only assumed its purpose was to take a 3D model and set up the joints and other settings that Paint allows for. It's definitely something most people can safely ignore though.

@@madameberry It looks like it enables a "rigged" model to be posed. Often that's only possible in something like Blender, Maya or some other 3D modelling program that understands the models "bones" and rigging. Even Photoshop only handles fixed models - not rigged ones. So dragging a person model into it results in a fixed "T-Pose". I think the Modeler is almost vital for Mecha mechanical manga art - complex nobs, cylinders, cubes and tubes on robots can be posed easily. I struggle with perspective - so having posable characters saves me from rubbish art. (I'm a bit of a faker) =) (Ohhh - I forgot! Animation! Some steps in animation, like the "camera" looking up at a person from the level of the feet is very hard to draw correctly... having posable characters is a life saver when animating a tumbling character like that - you'll notice how hard it is, by how few animations ever attempt it. I think Akira artists did with mixed to good results...)

But you can pose a rigged model in Paint - which is why I think Modeler is the program used to rig models the way Paint understands them, so you can take them into paint and pose them. I'll probably be doing another Clip Studio video soon, because in the latest update they added shape primatives (cubes, spheres, etc) which will be really useful for tons of things.

I've watched your video about cool subtools in CSP and you explained it so well. I finally lost my fear and started to watch tutorials to use CSP but with the inumerous updates the platforms is quite a bit different and I was starting to panick until I searched for recent videos and seeing it was yours I calmed down a bit Also a suggestion: Could you make a video about keybuttons and shortcuts you think are good for us to have in CSP ? I would love that. And sadly I'm not finding the video you said you talked about folders ....

@@madameberry You truly have a gift for explaining the complex, distilling its component parts into manageable bites for the un-initiated. Would love to see some vlogs of natural media techniques adapted to digital in CSP. Gouache painting (which you love) comes to mind. The difficulty with digital is being able to transfer skills from more traditional art to the realm of pixels. Keep streaming!

Thank you! Finally a good tutorial on CPS - clear, easy to follow (even if you never touched CPS before), complete and coherent. As some other users pointed out here, it doesn't intimidate, it helps to understand and encourages to try. Note to CPS: I can't believe THIS is not your official tutorial! Please, get rid of that Italian chick (from Lucca manga school) who (draws well, but) doesn't explain shit (and is not very good with English), and use this instead for the benefit of all.

I believe the issue is not just the overwhelming amount of stuffs available, but that the access to these things are much more complicated - as I just moved to Clip pain from Photoshop. I really don't wanna stay with what makes me comfortable, since I know Clip paint will be better for me on the long run. But, GOD, it's so much to take in! The shortcuts are awfully complicated. Got any advice to basically just get used to it or if we can copy Photoshop's shortcuts in any way..? To not feel overwhelmed, I mean. Nice tutorial, by the way!

I have a question, when you’re recording Clip Studio in OBS, how did you get the pop-up windows to show up? When I do it, it doesn’t record the windows. Could you tell us how or if it’s too complicated, could you do a tutorial on that?

I use Monitor Capture (might be called Display Capture) instead of Window Capture. That records everything on your screen, so it'll capture all the popup windows but I also have to be a bit careful nothing pops up like private conversations or email and such.

I have a notification that you replied. Idk if you deleted it or if some auto-filter did, but I see what you mean now with the paper color. Guess my workflow is redundant 😅 it's a leftover from Photoshop and other programs where the background color isn't really a layer you can turn off.

Hey, so I downloaded clip studio paint, I enrolled and paid a year in advance for the subscription EX edition't. and now I have a question do you know why the quality is so poor it looks choppy, like colours or material ??? and when I zoom and it's even worse, I don't know if it's the material because some of the things I was reading on the assets and tips page it was saying that some material people were downloading was not good quality however, I don't think I've really used any of the downloaded material except for silk hair and that actually was the one thing that was good quality, so do you know why this may be s it because I didn't set my workspace background at 300 dpi to start?? Still learning in this journey as I have always been a writer but recently I realized my creative passion ran so much deeper than that and I actually had alot of hidden skills I didnt believe were there!!! I use a macbook pro brand new 2023 16in max m2 and a 3rd gen 12.9 ipad pro both see to have this issue

No need to get snippy when I replied that I can't diagnose specific tech issues because idk what's going on with your machine via KZread comments. I gave you my best guess as to a solution.
