Your speech is very good. I’ve had hearing aids for 50+ years and my hearing loss is in the range of moderately severe to severe. I used to wear the phonak brand aids but the last 5 years I’ve switched to the Signia aids and they are small and rechargeable available. You can get the whistle feedback blockers these days. From Australia here. Have a wonderful day.

Hi Nelle, just seen you for the first time. I am impressed by your lovely english accent, and very clear speech. Definitely no deterioration there. I used to have a friend who went deaf in his 20s. I knew him when he was in his mid 50s. He still had perfect speech despite having virtually no hearing at all for many years. Even when we were stood right next to a noisy compressor that started up, he had no idea it was running until I told him. I just mention his experience to make the point that deafness does not necessarily lead to poor speech. With regards to your Naida aids needing batteries. I think in some ways that is more convenient. For example, when you go travelling, you don't have to take a charger with you. And no worries about finding somewhere to plug them in. Or finding a suitable adaptor for foreign power sockets. Or if you are travelling overnight, the rechargeable ones might run out of power. You seem to have a good attitude to life. I am pleased to have "met" you. Best wishes.

Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm glad you like my speech. I have been informed by the auditory implant service that they don't think my speech will deteriorate too much, especially if I get a cochlear implant so I guess that's good. I think it can be quite an individual thing though so there is never any guarantee. I don't find having disposable batteries that inconvenient to be honest. I know some people don't like them but it doesn't bother me at all. I don't think they are very eco friendly though so there is that. I'm glad you like my attitude to life, and I'm pleased to have seen your comment too. All the best, Nelle xx

I've lost part of my hearing in the last 4 months. It's about 60% of what it was and sometimes it goes completely deaf with no sound at all. After testing we're pretty sure my only option is hearing aids I have to have a few more test to confirm nothing else is happening before that's confirmed. I've been feeling a bit down about it but the way you've spoken about it is helping me realise this isn't the end of the world and that hearing aids will just help improve what I have. Thank you!

Hi Nelle As you can see from my profile I have BTE hearing aids with blue full shell earmolds! I was lucky the NHS did colour molds as usually they only do coloured molds for children! I am tempted to shock everyone by getting neon pink or red earmolds! Another tip I was told by the audiologist was the tubing you have now got comes in different thickness! I don't mean the thin wire ones! But the ones you have do come in different thickness! The thicker the tube diameter the more sound gets in to your ears so you may hear better! Good luck with your CI I hope it restores some hearing! A friend of mine had two implants & after 6 mths they can hear similar to what they did before! And as I said in a previous comment be warned the longer you cannot hear the more chance your speech will get worse! Since lockdown I have been told I sound like I was born deaf so it's back to speech therapy! I love your earmold colours it's good you showing them off & not hiding them with your hair down! Like me your deaf for life now! Also I have to say you look better with glasses I love the clear frames! Being on the DeafBlind spectrum I need glasses to try & read plus my phone reads & writes everything! Or should I say types everything! It can't have been easy for you! My hearing went over time! If you need any advice I will do my best to help as being deaf is not easy! You may want to look in to getting PIP as being profoundly deaf would give you money while you cannot work! ❤️❤️

Hi, thank you so much for your comment. I see you are a man of impeccable taste. I ended up getting my hearing aids privately because I am still waiting for an NHS audiology appointment (and have been for four months), so my poor parents have had to pay for some. I don't really understand why it seems like only children can have the fun stuff. Just because I'm an adult, doesn't mean I want boring stuff. I think the red or pink earmolds sound like a great idea. I saw a lady with glitter ones the other day which looked pretty cool too. I'm really worried about my speech to be honest. Everyone tells me I sound fine, but because I can't hear my voice I always feel like I'm lisping. I hope that once I've got a cochlear implant I'll feel better about my speech. With regards to not hiding my hearing aids, I think it's important to not be insecure about having hearing aids. At the end of the day, if someone likes me less as a person for having hearing aids, then that is their problem. I'm glad you like my glasses. One of my best friends is partially sighted, but being deaf and blind must bring so many more challenges. I was thinking of making a video where I teach her to drive my car (on private land of course), but I'm not sure that is a responsible thing to do. I am currently in the process of applying for PIP but as with all things it's taking a while. Hopefully that will help me financially while I'm not at work.

You must be doing something right Nelle 2500 views already on this video! Your earmolds are made of the same material as mine! I love the hearing aids colour! I have been watching CI videos or reading the subtitles & that nucleus 7 processor is one of the best & one girl said it gave her hearing almost like before she lost her hearing! So hopefully October then November will be a good month! I love your attitude about your newer hearing aids so what if they are bigger than some others as long as they help you who cares plus your CI receiver will be bigger! The funny thing is you will have a lead coming from the processor to the receiver a bit like my body worn hearing aids! I know I mentioned it before but I love those glasses without anything around the lenses everything is clear & blends in with your face! I don't think I could use contact lenses but each to their own! Your doing great Nelle as someone said to me last week I am grieving a loss of another sense! 110db is now profoundly deaf for me! You don't notice it going little by little! But seeing your first video made me realise I am in the same boat as you! 😢😢😢

@@nellefindlay I know what you mean you so want to hear again! That first month without hearing aids must have been awful! To have one ear go you can cope with that then the other! There are mornings when I don't hear a sound even with hearing aids in but gradually some sound comes through! The good thing with you is your young with good speech & to get you in so quickly has to be a good sign! But even after activation your brain has to learn to hear all over again! Plus you got a team that does these implants every day! When I was offered mine because of the cost there were not many done! The other plus factor is the processor you have chosen! I watch some video's last night out of interest & the one you have chosen has the best sound quality & it's paired with apple technology! I have only followed you for a week but judging by your hobby you are a fighter! And you will take in everything they tell so to hear again! I bet October cannot come quickly enough! You can put up with a bandage on the side of your head for a while! I am so glad your sharing this with us! It's made me think more of what little hearing I have left! And if my body worn aids help who cares if people stare & are old fashioned that is down to you for making me try again! And not accepting silence! Thank you 🧡

I have a moderitly sever hearing loss in my left ear and sever hearing loss in my right. I am on my third set of resound hearing aids in 18 years. The hearing aids that I am currently wearing at the time is a bluetooth set resound linx 3d 761 ric hearing aids with custom ear molds. @@nellefindlay Hi Nelle Matt from the United States yep choculer implants are supper expensive. In the United States insurance will help pay for choculer implants for children but adults are there on there own because insurance companies call them experiential just like with hearing aids which is not right but that is the way it is unfortunately. One ci will be better then none. When I get new hearing aids every 5 to 6 years I have pay for them by financing them through a company called care credit and If I pay them of in a year I pay no interest with works for me. That how I can afford my hearing aids. I got my last pair 2 years ago and glad my aduoligest excepts care credit or it would have to whaight an extra year before getting new ones to save the 5,000 dollars needed so I not eating in my savings or budget.

I don't care if ppl see my hearing aids I just want to hear what I'm missing. How does it work with you going through all those hearing aids financially? Hi, thank you for your comment. Luckily I live in the UK and have been able to recieve a cochlear implant under our National Health Service. I (my parents) did however end up having to pay for hearing aids privately as although I am entitled to them under the NHS, they are having a lot of issues at the moment and basically don't have space for me. I have already received a cochlear implant, but am still waiting for my hearing aid appointment. Even though I have tried two different types of hearing aids, we only had to pay once as there is a trial period. I think the total cost was around £2,500 ($3,350). I have to have special high powered ones though, so if your hearing loss is less severe than mine, you shouldn't have to spend as much as me. Luckily, my family is fairly well off financially, so even though it was a stretch, it wasn't the absolute end of the world. I hope this answers your question. Nelle xx

Hi Nelle this may or may not help but after the implant team had told you that you had lost more hearing did you go back to where you bought your hearing aids & show them your latest audiogram & get them to adjust your hearing aids accordingly? As if not the hearing aid in your left ear has the wrong settings & perhaps if they were adjusted to your current audiogram results you may hear a bit better out of that ear! Which in turn will help once your implant is activated! If you have been back then ignore this! But with all the implant stuff going on the non implanted ear can get forgotten! Good luck for the 4th Nov! It's so close now being the 1st Nov 💜

Hi again Nelle I have just found out something that may interest you, when I had a full blood work up & found usher's I thought that was the end of it,but a medical student was given my case to study! And an ENT consultant got in touch! They thought my rapid hearing loss was usher's & noise damage! But it seems the blood test showed that there was a form of bacteria from my days on the farm from cow & calf dung that would cause profound hearing loss! It laid dormant for years but around 5 yrs ago it must have reactivated & leading to me being profoundly deaf in both ears! Symptoms include balance issues, eyes losing focus etc! The brain injury did not help! It's too late to do anything now! The bacteria cannot do any more harm! But I thought of you when you said you lived on the farm with your boyfriend! I am no doctor but it may have caused your sudden deafness! Attacked your inner ear etc! I am happy my case was reviewed it's too late to save my hearing & I have to manage my remaining sight! Anyway sorry for intruding again with my comments! I am happy to finally get some answers! Plus I have to see audiology when I can for more powerful BTE hearing aids! So over the weekend I might switch as unlike the 1970's & 80's people use ear buds so the won't look out of place! 🧡

@@barrytaylorprofoundlydeafi2479 Hi, I'm glad you've figured out a way to get the best results possible from your hearing aids. I hope that works for you. I will get the processor turned on around 4 weeks after the surgery depending on healing. I don't have the appointment date yet. Best of luck with your retro hearing aid solution. Nelle xx

@@nellefindlay here's hoping your a quick healer! Would be an amazing Christmas present if you start to get used to the CI by then! I know I probably sound silly using my old body worn hearing aids! If this had been the 1970's etc the NHS would have given you a harness with two receiver boxes on your chest & cords leading up to each ear! So 40 yrs later CI's After reading your email saying why don't I have both ears implanted I emailed the hospital that was going to do my CI in the late 90's back then the costs were high! So I felt a youngster was more deserving than me so took my name off the list But I thought I would ask again! I got a lovely email from the consultant who I saw back then so he said off the record with my other medical problems I would not stand much chance of being implanted unless I went private! The NHS has to ration the implants they do! So someone 18 + who is a good candidate would get done & the NHS should get a lot of the money back from say 40 yrs of work! My best bet apart from going private is keep trying to get the most powerful hearing aids I could get! That's when he said he knew of people with a profound loss to go back to body worn hearing aids! No mask getting tangled up problems! You made sure you got the most powerful hearing aids you can get you wanted to hear something! Plus get earmolds that looked cool! So once again thank you for replying to this & my email! Best wishes Barry 🧡

Hi, thank you for your comment. Currently I have a 100 db hearing loss in my right ear and 95db hearing loss in my left hear. Without hearing aids I can hear absolutely nothing. With hearing aids I can hear the beat of music. I can kind of hear the tone as well like I could tell the difference between classical music or metal. If I know a song really well I can follow along the music in my head. If I don't know the song, I can't hear enough to work out what is going on musically. Obviously I can't distinguish any lyrics really. Like if a song as an instrumental introduction, I can't hear when the singer comes in. It sounds very different to normal. I think the best way to explain it is like if it was playing really quietly through the worst speaker ever. Like really tinny and kind of like a radio not tuned in properly. Some music just sounds like static and I can't follow it no matter how well I know the song. An example of something that sounds like static would be Orden Ogan's Gunman or parts of Blind Guardian's Sacred Worlds. Also Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones for a bit more well known example. Anything with a lot of screaming doesn't really work. Music with a really simple tune and beat is a lot easier to follow and sounds better. It also helps if there is a lot of contrast between the different elements of the music. Something like Amaranth by Nightwish is pretty good, also Hunting High and Low by Stratovarius. For a more well known example, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. It's really difficult to explain, but this is the best explanation I can think of. I hope this answers your question. I'll be sure to make a video about what music sounds like with a cochlear implant once I have mine. Nelle xx

Hi again Nelle first off I want to thank you for replying on here & by email! This may or may not be of interest to you as next month your having your CI surgery plus you bought your own hearing aids! But as I am like you now profoundly deaf my local audiology department has asked if I would like to put my name down for a new hearing aid coming mid October on the NHS it's made by Siemens it's called the SIGNIA STREETA UP ( ultra power) it's rechargeable & has its own app & maybe even a remote! So maybe Nelle see if you can get one for your non implanted ear? Your a lovely person & I hope & pray this CI implant works & next year they do the other ear! You have so much to offer workwise! & Maybe you will hear enough to go back to your own job! I have been told almost certainly my loss is not usher's but menieres disease as all the tests they did pointed to it plus how quickly I went from severe to profoundly deaf! ☹️Hence I will take any hearing aid that will help! 💜💜

@@nellefindlay it's wet here today so I am going to hopefully reply to your last email! I thought of you as you will still need a hearing aid for your un implanted ear! I know u got the one you bought! Also u might want to think about using the mold u got now to keep your CI on your ear! As there is nothing to stop it from coming off your ear but your implant team will have it covered! You will notice another thing with hearing aids, when the wind is very strong it affects what little hearing you have left! 💜

How did you lose your hearing if you don’t mind?

Hi, I lost my hearing over the course of a week about 3 years ago (at the time of writing this comment). The exact cause hasn't been confirmed but it is most likely due to either Meniere's disease or Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease. I decided not to go forward with any further testing as it would not help recover any hearing and everything more serious has been ruled out so I didn't see any benefit. I hope this answers your question.
