Just like with a standard aquarium, normally the fish are supposed to be the last thing introduced to an aquaponics system. You´d first want to establish a healthy population of nitrogen filtering bacteria, and depending on what water you use you´ll have to give chlorine/ fluorine time to evaporate. Some people even recommend to start with plants you fertilize artificially until you have a good concept of how much nitrogen they can absorb, and then try to introduce fish.

This was definitely the most sensible Doomsday prepper

They don't want any sort of contaminated water to get into the system. All the water in there has already been filtered. Thus you do not want to add contaminated water to already filtered water. It makes for healthier fish and a safer food source. Also if that water were to reach the plants it could kill them and then you would lose your plant food source.

Quit the doomsday junk. We know it's fake. We know none of it makes any sense. It was funny in the beginning, but we are sick of it. I liked this announcer better when he did "stranger than nature". Let's bring that back. Or at least bring back the big cats. This is SO stupid.
