Getting Familiar With Important Menus Of Megasquirt (Tuning Video #2)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Just a reminder... all of the topics I'm presenting in these videos are mostly learned all on my own through trial and error and reading forums. I'm not a professional!!! It's always best to do research on things like this through multiple platforms so you can make the best decisions.

    I've only ever worked with AEM (which I don't like at all) and Hydra, which I absolutely love, but must admit that its price tag is up there if you want to have all sorts of extra fancy goodies. It's neat to see you doing the "screen share" style so that I can get a good look at the layout of MS and how the user interface behaves. good stuff indeed.

I have a Mazda 323 1.6l that i have bolted on a turbo from a b6t....so all your 1.6l stuff is a great place to start! (the tables, not the total tune itself) thanks Michael.

    Definitely loving all your videos man. I've been building miatas for years but this will be my first run with a megasquirt and first time actually doing anything myself as far as tuning goes. Getting ready to pick up an MS2 and pop it into my mostly stock 1.8 to get the feel of things before swapping motors and boosting it. I just downloaded tunerstudio and been checking out some sample maps they provided. The link you posted with miata sample maps didnt work for me, not sure why. Honestly that's my goal. The information is out there, I'm just trying to give people an easier way to access it. I fought through countless mt.net threads while I was boosting my car, which is where I learned 90% of what I know lol. (Or at least learned key points that let me learn things on my own much faster).

  • @jaguarjay13

    @jaguarjay13

    This is exactly what I experienced when I first got my MS. There's so much information on mt.net that you can't seem to find any apart from a couple of useful threads (within reasonabe time that is) When you use the search function you can only seem to find posts of "noobs" that want to know the same as you. Apart from the basics I've learned most my things from trial and error and just playing around with some settings. These videos are really useful as a source of information, without having to dig through pages and pages of search results on mt.net Keep up the good work Greg (or Craig, Daniel or John or something, I'm kinda curious what people come up with :'D) You inspired me to turbo my MX-5 and it's almost finished! Just some assembling work to do :)

    Got my na miata all tuned up and was ready to put my turbo on then the very last time I hooked up my laptop to check out everything one last time I got a message from tunerstudio that said there was an error when trying to open my tune so after some research I have to start another project... something to do with windows 10 corrupting the properties of my file. Talk about upset. Hopefully I can save my file on a thumb drive and reinstall it if it ever happens again. Major setback. I'm sure its something I did cause I'm not super tech savvy. Anyway thanks for the vids greg you explain it the easiest for me to understand and the videos dont put me to sleep. I know this probably doesn't happen to often but if it's done it to you a video on how to avoid this situation would be awesome

    Greg, there is a MUCH easier way to scale your AFR map. Click on the arrows in the bottom left corner. From there it will bring up a dialog where you can enter your desired break points. When you click "ok" it will adjust the map to reflect your original AFRs mapped to new cut points.

I don't plan on going for boost but my long term goal is ITBs so am wondering if it will be good to learn MS on my near stock setup n do small adjustments to better learn the system. In future prep for ITBs, or is it not worth changing ur ecu unless you go boost with a turbo or ITBs ? Thanks in advance love the videos !!!!

  • @TheCarPassionChannel

    @TheCarPassionChannel

    8 жыл бұрын

    If you plan major modifications in the future it's best to install it sooner than later. If you want an ITB setup why would you boost it first? AN ITB setup will be cheaper than properly turbocharging anyways.

  • @AkagiPro1

    @AkagiPro1

    +TheCarPassionChannel thanks for the fast response, sorry I meant I don't plan on boosting it ever. ITBs would be my long term choice, even though many say tuning can be a really pain and timing consuming process with the east coast weather changes. To replace the rings you have to pull pistons which means either pulling the motor or dropping the subframe and pulling the oil pan. In which case you should do bearings while your in there. If the car is cheap enough sure but it's borderline putting a new motor in

    This is the best MS tuning video I've watched, thanks so much!! I'm planning to install a Megasquirt into my Miata (when I buy it) and this has been very very helpful :). I have a couple questions for you: I am confused @ 3:23 in the ignition timing table. At 230 & 212 kPa and 1800 RPM, why are the timings a lot less than their surrounding cells? The 5.1 and 6.9 BTDC Sorry if this second question is answered in another video of yours, but is your boost being controlled by the wastegate spring + a manual/electronic boost controller, or is the Megasquirt controlling it? Thanks so much Greg! I'm looking forward to applying this KNOWLEDGE to my future car and beating LAMBORGHINIs somehow ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    You'll never be able to get into 200+kpa at 1800RPM, so those cells really don't matter. Boost on mine is controlled my a homemade boost controller, I have a previous video showing how to make it!

    Sweet thanks so much man! I understand it now, it wouldn't make sense for a turbo to spool that fast hahah. Thanks again!

    Another question, once my car is turbo'd would it be better to build upon the stock map or make tweaks to the turbo tuner map on megasquirtpnp?

    The "base" map already is mostly set up for boost, you'll just have to make some adjustments to the existing maps based on your setup.

    The way your tuning the ignition map is worrying. I would recommend starting low and creeping up and of course knock detection

    The base map does start out very conservative. I said that I leave the base map alone until I'm on a dyno, unless I'm actually getting audible detonation. Seems just fine, it usually gets quite a bit more aggressive in boost after dyno time actually.
