    This was super helpful. I wish I would have found this video before I purchased, but I purchased well and bought the Flyin Miata full kit...post pandemic cost over 7K, but it's pretty complete. I've been trying to figure what I need to get me beyond the 200 who. That sweet spot of 250 who and your video helped with that. Thank you....didn't know half the companies you mentioned even built kits. So thanks for your expertise!

    The rotrex is a last resort for a supercharger. If you went positive displacement supercharger like an edelbrock its instant power especially down low where this car needs it. Its night and day difference. The rotrex is a turbo without the lag

    On the contrary, Rotrex is an amazing choice for stock block cars, since they don't produce a lot of low end torque, but they scream in the high rpm and still allow you to make good power. They actually compliment the powerband of the motor. To each their own though!

    This gives me hope never built an engine and just lapped the valves always sent it out to the machine shop. I am building a performance boat I just got the short block together last night. I dont really have the extra money to have th heads machined and was just going to lap them. I have a blast cabinet i am going to take them all apart clean the valves and sand blast the heads and try this if the valves and seats are salvagable . Gave me new up I can pull this off the heads are after market performance heads . My bucket list get the engine in and get out and start living aagin gotta get out of the grave called a rut

    My 1.6 NBFL is about to get the same treatment this upcoming winter, plus rear side seals. There is a couple of differences but it is not too far from NAs, mainly the radiator support brackets (which are easier to remove). I'm keeping this video around for this occasion, thanks for the tutorial, mate !

    This is awesome. Any way to set it up to 'disable' flat foot shifting/launch based on braking? This way you could use it on a road course/track day but not have to manually intercept it.

  • @TheCarPassionChannel

    There are a couple ways you could do this, I used to have a physical switch that would activate/deactivate it so if I was canyon running or AX etc, I could just turn it off. Now that you mention it, I think you could put such a switch somewhere on the brake pedal arm so it would deactivate under braking only, allowing free revs for downshifts. Good idea!

    Maybe machining the combustion chamber in the head would help, it probably will bring down the compression ratio, but you will still be able to run the pistons and the head gasket that's in the engine. And maybe try porting the heads (intake and exhaust) and change the turbo or the exhaust header from the head to the turbo for different one with more exhaust flow in mind at higher boost application. Greetings from Germany ✌✌

    So I have Advanti Storms, 15x8 35mm offset and the widest I can fit on my car without rolled fenders is 205. I have 205/50/15 Potenza RE71s and they are really close to touching. Your car doesn't seem very low. My ride height is about 12.5in in the rear and about 12in in the front. I don't think there's anyway I'm squeezing 225s on there without rolling the fenders.

    Sweet build, but advice, are you sure you should be adding permatex to the oil pump? If it squeezes inside, dries, and breaks free it is going to plug a journal or bearing oil feed somewhere. I have a Ford modular and there is no gasket material there. Metal on metal. Let the oil pump and regulator do the work, even if there is a tiny leak it will be fine.

    Just wondering what would be the positives of adding water/meth injection to this setup. Better for the stock motor/higher power level with stock pulley ratio/ability to run the system without an intercooler. Although the lack of lag kind of bypasses this issue altogether.

  • @TheCarPassionChannel
    @TheCarPassionChannel14 күн бұрын

    You could squeeze another 20-30whp out of the setup with water/meth just like you could with E85, but the stock engine is still limited to a certain amount of torque regardless of fuel type/time safety. And yeah there's really no reason to lose the IC, the setup responds as if it's N/A already

    I don't have 1/4 mile data but I did 1/8 mile testing - With just a couple bolt-ons it did 10.0 @ 69mph, with this Rotrex setup it did 8.5 @ 84mph. 0-60 dropped from 7.3 down to 5.1, and I had to go to 3rd to hit 60 since the gears are very short. I have a whole video about these performance tests on my channel, posted just after this one

    You described compound turbos backwards. The big turbo feeds the small turbo, not the other way around. You said it in reverse, and you also said "that bigger turbo taking air that's already pressurized and ramping it up more." The bigger turbo (usually sized to roughly double the maximum airflow) draws in atmospheric pressure, then the small turbo draws in the charge from the big turbo and pressurizes it further. I'm nitpicking, I know, but it's going to bother me if I leave it uncorrected 😅 It actually works out pretty handily, because often you'll be using something like a low pressure turbo with a 3" outlet feeding a high pressure turbo with a 3" inlet, in which case you don't even need to neck the charge pipe up or down.

  • @TheCarPassionChannel
    @TheCarPassionChannel19 күн бұрын

    Ah yeah I had it backwards. The exhaust from the head feeds directly into the small turbo and then flows through the big one, but the big turbo actually gets the fresh air and feeds it to the small one, yeah?
