Getting coffee in the Crown Vic (it has an MOT!!)

Many months after failing its last MOT on terrible rust, the ex-Ohio Crown Vic Police Interceptor has gone for a fresh MOT test...can I go and get a coffee in the big Ford? Is the whale no longer beached?

Congratulations Matt on the new Crown Vic MOT. Considering the the time off road for the major body surgery this is great news. Seeing you drive it it's like you were a kid with two jellies. A happy face Matt!. Many thanks for sharing the overhaul journey from a bodged bodged job to a decent job by yourself. Many thanks for sharing.
Nice to hear the Victoria making nice V8 sounds . Nice job, Matt.
Glad to see it back on the road. You and the Crown Vic got a mention on the Smith and Sniff podcast last week. Also saw you in this months Practical Classics.
You should wrap this yellow and turn it into a NYC Taxi and hire it out for proms weddings etc.
Well done Matt - I was one who thought the situation with the rust looked unrecoverable when you firat revealed it, but you dug in and got it back - huge credit to you. Enjoy!

It's great seeing your car back in action! Love to see the care and dedication you've put into the legendary crown vic
I'll never be able to join in with the enthusiasm for N.American cars or ex police vehicles, but I'm genuinely pleased that after all your hard work, you've got your car back on the road. A triumph of persistence and dogged determination...
Well done. Always a pleasure when you finally get a car back on the road after a long hiatus! Really look forward to seeing some videos on the Merc, if it's still lurking in the garage somewhere!!
Congrats on getting it through the MOT! Always liked the sound of the 4.6 in that platform. Keep up the good work!👍

Fantastic job, Matt. You deserve that MOT and the enjoyable drive.
So glad to see this legendary car back in action! I've been a fan of Crown Vics from a very young age - right around Year 7 in secondary school, in fact! - and have wanted to own one of my own for a similarly long time, so stuff like this helps keep my dream going and my goals in sight - I'm gonna make it happen, hopefully sooner rather than later!
So well deserved after all that hard work. Incredible dedication to getting that car fixed. 🎉🎉
OMG I completely forgot about the W123, which incidentally was how I first got into watching your channel, ha! I really enjoyed that drive, with a great view of the road ahead it felt like was a passenger right there in the car with you, the engine sounded glorious on kick down, there goes another gallon of premium unleaded. Yes tax on multiple vehicles is a killer and disproportionate, one can only ride one horse at a time, rip off Britain with exorbitant fuel prices. Even with the imperfections the car still looks cool and very presentable. Enjoy!
Great job! Nice to see this out and about at last! Doesn't it sound awesome, too!!
That's such a cool car! Congrats on getting him/her road legal again! 😃
Congrats on getting your Vic back on the road! Loved every minute of this video. Seems like your victory lap.
Congratulations on getting Bosch back on the road. I am so happy for you! It really sounds great when you mash on the go pedal
At last the video I’ve been waiting for, all that effort to repair a car that shouldn’t have needed it. I must admit to thinking that going for a drive through coffee in a left hand drive car wasn’t fully thought through😂😂. In view of the fact that your not after a concours car the get a body shop to blow in the repairs would be the way to go. Great video.
Top work, Matt! Been great to see you persevere with the Vic, also agreed with you on ridiculous tax prices...

no, tried it and nothing. Cop spec is very stripped out, and for security the central locking on the key only unlocks the drivers door but locks all 4. It will have the loom but none of the modules, like the cruise control I was able to add with old parts.
Great to see it back on the road, it looks great!
Well, it works, now it’s time to sell it, as someone else said 😅 I’ve got same experience with 1992 Chevrolet Caprice 😂
Superb result Matt! Looking forward to further developments.
Well done Matt, all that hard work has paid off.
I know what you mean about the tax - my Renault Grand Scenic recently cost me £335 to tax, despite being my backup car that only does about 2,000 miles a year. It's not like it's a huge or dirty engine either - it's only a 1.6 petrol and it's ULEZ compliant.

Well done fella, MOT passes are a happy place. Regarding the oil being sat for a while, if the colour and viscosity are still good then any moisture in there due to being sat around will disperse through the rocker cover breather system with use. Road tax, goddam it!! I drive a 20 year old Rover 75 CDTI auto connoisseur , £31+ a month, my wife has a 20 year old BMW Z4 auto, that's £34+ a month, it's a totally unfair system. Take care Regards Roger.

My '98 Oldsmobile rotors squeak if the temp goes below the dew point overnight. Good old cast iron! No road tax in the States. There is a "road usage tax" in some metro areas, but I think it's a flat rate, not related to vehicle size. My car's only monthly expense is fuel, and fracking keeps it pretty cheap. There is nothing like a big, simple American Saloon for a comfy ride (for fun, I've got a Whizzkid!).
Yay!! Finally - glad you've finished the project. £30pm is exactly half of what I'm paying for my X-type, so not too bad all things considered.
Wouldn't be surprised if the indicator relay is a more robust version, as Police vehicles are always specked with stronger ones that will power auxiliary lights Rather like connecting a trailer and finding the lights go to rapid mode. Seen that before on a police model Chevrolet Impala that was ex-service from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police /G R C in Canada. Cheers
I know how you feel Matt I’ve nearly got my W140 back on the road after 4 years and I can’t wait to drive it 👍

Previous repair rust coming through on the wings. And you want to do the same thing. Just bite the bullet and replace the wings. Else the rust will be back again. I know you won’t listen but it’s a saving in the long run.

Greeting from Glenn in Cleveland Oh USA: The car looks great! If in fact you have to replace the brake pads, I believe they need to be ceramic pads. Metalica pads make a clunking and banging noise as well as a squeaking noise on these cars. I am not sure how to explain this, but here goes. Most Police stations, at least here in the east suburbs of Cleveland where your car came from. there are always one or two police cruisers with the engines idling outside the police entrance. They do this for the sake of emergencies. No fumbling around looking for the keys. I wonder how many run hours these cars actually have on them. Here in Ohio, we don't have MOT but rather we have an EPA (emissions) inspection every other year at no cost. If the car doesn't pass, then we are required to spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars toward repairing the emission problem and with proof of work related to the issue, then they exempt the vehicle for 2 years. My brother lives in North Carolina and they have a full-on test like the MOT. Requirements vary from state to state.

Fortunately this was a Sgt's car (I have his business card!) so I dont think it had a very hard life. I had to change front calipers and pads on arrival, and got the CVPI specific parts from Rock Auto, so I guess they are correct? It was fine for the time I was able to drive it and did some long trips in it, so think its just furred up from sitting so long, it was definitely better at the end of the drive. Ironically, thanks to all the emissions control, its probably one of my cleanest cars, but as the government dont hold data on on I have to pay to take this into London ULEZ clean air zone, but dont have to have an emissions check on the MOT test (although the tester try just to see, and said it would have flown through)
Had a golf tdi with a collapsing rear wheel bearing that sounded like that. ( chains being dragged sound).

Incidentally, the corrosion you encountered is typical of a Midwestern American car, and the crap " repair" job may have been symptomatic of budget cuts and the fact it was driven by law enforce ment. The road worthiness and legality of vehicles depends greatly on the standards set by the state in which a vehicle is registered. They may have opted for a strictly cosmetic job if they determined the frame was still in acceptable condition, the standards really do vary widely from U.S. state to state.
