Furious Driving is about my love of all types of cars, from wrecks and classics (often the same thing) to retro and new with weekly Modern Mondays new car reviews and retro and classic test drives every Friday. Follow my fleet's progress, the Rover P6 V8 upgrade, will the Mercedes W123 ever see the road again? And can I find all the rust in the Alfa 145?

The whole road tax (emmissions tax) system is a joke. My partner does 35k miles a year, her car tax is £20. I do less than 5k miles in my 2 cars added together and pay about £750 tax for the 2 of them plus another £110 for a motorbike i do about 1500 miles a year on. In what world does that seem a fair system? At 57 years of age my road tax bill is nealy double my insurance bill and thats fully comp on all 3 vehicles. Im honestly at a point where the bills i pay on them are making it hard to justify keeping them and its not repair bills that make me think of selling them. I grudge paying the government a disproportionate amount of tax for the miles (and co2 output) that i do. The system needs to be changed before more decent old cars get scrapped because they're not financially worth keeping for ordinary working people
We all know UK has enough Ostriches and Emus to be able to poo on your car and ruin your day.
Is there too much oil in the engine ?The Black Rover is just beutifull.
MY FRIEND, YOU'V GOT TOO MUCH ON YOUR PLATE.YOU SHOULD ONLY ACQUIRE TWO OR THREE CAR'S AND FIX THEM PROPERLY.THAN MOVE ONTO NEW PROJECTS ,,,,,,PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR BEING INTRUSIVE. HOW IS THE ROVER 75 GETTING ON ? I've been a regular audience of your videos for last apprx 3 years.
Just love the 2000, white with red interior is perfection! Great job on the alternators.
Hi Matt, your doing a fantastic job on the Crown Victoria, I feel your frustrations with the weather, im going through the same thing myself long with family stuff as well. I just want to get outside and weld my Cavalier, like you im recording it for KZread and i have literally days left before my personal deadline 😦 I really enjoy these videos though mate so keep them coming, all the best. Steve.
Wrong handed Lucas alternator? Remove the though bolts and rotate the housing. Hey presto, opposite handed alternator. Many motor factors only stocked one hand (cheaper that way) and flipped them to suit.
Good trick!
Hello,it’s not out of the elements because it’s all open facing the fields.secure some kind of roller blind to cut off the wind blowing dust inside🤔🤔🇬🇧🇬🇧
Need a fuel pump kit for the 2litre that is why it is not priming and not holding fuel in the bowl
Always entertaining
I think that would pass inspection in New York and New Jersey. The frame rails aren't rusted, so the car isn't going to fold in half. Of course, maybe US states don't have inspections at all anymore. When I was a kid, I think NJ inspection was stricter than NY's. NJ didn't allow holes later than a certain size (maybe ½" or 1"?) in non-structural external body panels. Of course, most cars were body-on-frame then, like this Crown Vic My old '05 Jetta passed inspection in NJ with badly rusted Fenders (wings to you), but they're non-structural. Rust in the unibody would have been a fail. Rocker panels? Pass, as long as they're not structural.
Every state has its own rules, Ohio just has bi-annual emissions! Uk is strict, and corrosion within 30cm of a seatbelt bolt is an instant fail
Alternators for the Rovers
I know you’re into saving money. So it is always worth a shot if you have the time. However as a mechanic I don’t really like it when people try & save a few ££ on really important items. Alternators & brakes etc are always best bitting the bullet & spending the extra for replacement parts.
the 2.0 manta gte was as fast as the 2.8 injection and it went round corners waaaay better.ive had loads of mantas! one of the best was a 2.2 swap with a stage 3 head and a 4 branch.it went pretty good i can tell you.i also had a white GT/E coupe and a red 1.8 which went pretty good. i as fixing up an exclusive coupe that i modded with princess 4pot calipers up front ,resprayed it was gonna drop the 2.2 motor in it but it then got vandalised by a jealous c - - t. which spoiled it for me.
Having two of the buggers is just masochistic!
Good progress!
A great little tinkering video on both P6's Matt.
Thanks 👍
Nice work man, got there in the end 🙂 the no battery light on the 2000 will be related to the broken wires you mentioned 🙂👍
Ah, the joys of pirchasing parts from eBay...
Oh how Lucas CAV is missed, if a recon unit was not available one got a new one for the exchange price.
Double P6 - the best type of video bar none
New steelies a definite improvement, I'd be painting them satin black though, especially against the green body colour!
This is one thing I do appreciate about most places within the US, Tax on your cars is based on assessed value and insurance should be based much more on the driver and their driving record rather than what car they are driving.
👍🏴😉
Yeah the reg and rect are for an acr I used to rebuild these every day 😂
This looks easy to fit compared to the grand picasso i did last week that took me 3 days to do.... picasso alternators are up to a grand each if you're unlucky 🙄👍🇮🇪
And definitely easier than a Smart car!
Great progress on the black P6, i'd like to see the 2000 out, thats some motor, Gaffer-tastic. Best wishes.
All the old british electrical's are b.a. sizes although being small sizes, metrics usually work OK. I take it you haven't yet looked for the ignition relay for the warning light. I have in the past got around the lug issue with alternators by removing the 3 long bolts holding the alternator together, then you can twist the casing around till the lugs are in the right place and refit the bolts
I thought I had it but it was the starter relay
12:55 Yep no more returning old units to where they came from. Amazes me at how many items be it alternators, starter motors, calipers etc we just throw in the scrap metal. Clearly in our case Napa Auto parts can churn out every conceivable part for such cheap (quality is sometimes questionable!!!!!) prices it just isn't worth them having the old stuck back. Very environmentally friendly!!!
To check the warning light circuit, earth the small brown and yellow wire on the alternator plug with the ignition turned on and if the wiring is okay, it should light up, if not, you have a wiring fault from the alternator to the dash, if it does work, the alternator is at fault although it is charging, the light has to work to excite the field circuit, :), just thought it may have a warning light control unit, looks like an old flasher unit round aluminium unit, normally has a green label on it to say what it is, that new alternator probably wont need it but there might be a small modification to do to the wiring, cant just remember, long time since i worked on that type of charging system.
You need to buy the farm, Matt. By which I mean you need to move to a de-landed farmhouse that still has a significant sized barn (or series of useful outbuildings) - ever consider moving to the north of England where your house value would probably get you something of the sort?
Mrs F would like to go north, but we have a lot of ties here and our son is at secondary about to start GCSEs so not a good time to move away
I did that but went from the South East to North Devon. Trouble is the weather is S***e down here so there is plenty of time for tinkering but not for driving !
You can rotate those alternator bodies ic you're careful
The regulator and rectifier you have are completely wrong for that alternator, they fit Lucas 16-18 ACR, not yours , the sockets are a BA size, i used to recondition alternators and have done hundreds of Lucas alternators, cheers Andy
As you've probably guessed by now, the multiplicity of different fiddly sizes are to stop people like you buggaring abaht wiv fings you shouldn't be and make you take it to someone (expensive) to keep them gainfully employed. 😁 for shame😂
Nice one Matt, one of the P6's is running again and hopefully closer to getting th 2000 going as well. I noticed the oil pressure gauge was back in the middle at the end of the video which is good. 'Pattern' parts as they used to be called (maybe they still are I don't know) always used to be a lottery back in the day and I'd guess it's got worse in recent decades. I bought some pattern stuff to replace bits on motor bikes and gave up in the end as they just didn't fit and ended up buying genuine bits at frankly stupid prices. When the genuine parts dry up it becomes a greater challenge. Many thanks for sharing.
Ever thought of electric fuel pumps?….keep asking hubnut same thing…..hearing starters being over worked
The V8 has one, essential to stop vapour lock, the 2000 has never had a problem as long as its kept in use
I love Glass Bowl fuel pumps. I have one in my shed from a Hillman Hunter (I think).
Always good to see P6 content . On another subject, are you having a social , ideally at The Motorist in Yorkshire this year ?
Been meaning to plan one!
The "box" on the alternator is a capacitor. You can drive without it, but makes the gauges work twitchy (at least in my car it does that) - the capacitor evens out the voltage spikes. It needs to be bolted to a ground.
It looks like a radio interference suppression capacitor to me.
@@Zeem4 You´re right, but it also affects other stuff.
Oh, the joy of ebay. Still, good to see the V8 up and running again.
That rev counter is working on my nerves 😅
Lovely E.T. Headrests in the 2000.
Thanks, yes they are rather tasty!
The V8 has an appealing Mad Max air about it.
Ooh , progress ( and looks like the oil pressure was normal on the drive back )
When do we finally get the reveal of that F40 from your intro? 😜
one day...
The world of eBay Matt... F#ck em! I basically had to get rid of my Fiat Stilo Schumacher as eBay sellers kept sending the wrong headlights after promising they were correct... After the 5th one I just gave up. No MOT due to light alignment.. Sent it to scrappy and they auctioned it for me... eBay account shut down and deleted for ever... Grrrr hate hate hate....
Fiat Stilo Schumacher! Haven't thought about them in many years! Nice!
Well done on the alternator fix for the V8. Looks like the oil pressure came down a bit at the end.
Furious vs hubnut for tinkering time videos 🤓🧰🔧⚒️🛠️
I'd say it's a draw at the moment.?.😂
Yipee I'm 4th I thnk?
I really enjoy a tinkering video! This is my the UK has so many good engineers.
