    There is another issue with the current car market and E85 Car Companies are making it harder to tune newer cars because of emission concerns. The car enthusiast’s have long been turning their cars for more performance and E85 is actually an amazing cheap alternative to race fuel. The process of tuning is basically editing how your car’s computer (ECU) and how it handles the gas, but as cars are becoming “smarter” so Are the firewalls that prevent a mechanic from being able to change the settings needed to tune modern cars. I am sure that this intertwines with right to repair since only authorized Dealer mechanics can access more modern ECU’s but something to I wanted to mention if it hasn’t already.

    All gasoline-powered internal combustion engine vehicles can use E85, regardless of year and manufacturer. This isn't to say that you should run a non-flex fuel vehicle exclusively on E85, but you can safely and efficiently run any non-flex fuel engine on a mix of E10 and E85. A 50/50 splash blend would effectively give you about E40. If you fill half your tank with E85 (somewhere between 6 and 9 gallons of E85 depending on the size of your vehicle's tank) you will save $1.50 to $2 per gallon on the E85 and get MPG that is about equal to just using E10.

    Ethanol Is Made In The USA Ethanol is the main ingredient in E85, and it is made from corn grown in 27 US states. As of 2019, more than 68,000 American jobs were directly associated with ethanol production. When you choose to fill up with E85, you're spending your money on fuel that's produced by American farmers.

    Just a few months ago e85 was like only $3 a gallon... Now it's over $4 a gallon.. they're gouging it because of the high price of gasoline. But now that gas is going down, so is e85.. I just got it for $3.70 a gallon in San Diego.

    You can use it in your car, but power will take a hit. If you heard anyone saw you can make big power off of E85, that is true but your car's ECU needs to be remapped for that.

    Some of this is pretty misleading and not totally true, mostly regarding which kind of vehicles can be run on e85. They mention that certain manufacturers are already compliant, making it seem like any of their newer vehicles are already set up to take this fuel. They’re not. You absolutely need an ECU tune and a content analyzer to run it unless your car explicitly takes it as set from the factory.

    All cars built after 2001 can run on E85, but will experience lower mpg unless you get the engine tuned to be optimized to E85 use.

  • @jejoko

    @jejoko

    Жыл бұрын

    @danielpesicka8513 It's absolutely true. E85 will eat thru regular fuel lines and ruin ordinary injector seals. Besides, not all E85 is made equal. Depending on the season, the ethanol rating can be substantially more or less. That is why all flex fuel vehicles must be equipped with an ethanol sensor to allow the ECU to compensate for the specific ethanol in the fuel mixture. A value that will vary greatly EVERY TIME you fill up your tank. This means that if you just "tune" your vehicle for E85 at one specific range, you are looking for trouble because E85 is a constant variable that you are not accounting for. Besides non flex fuel vehicles, ECUs do not have the capability to compensate for diverse ethanol ranges, and the engines don't even have the components to do so. So if anyone is telling you that they can add an ethanol sensor to your fuel tank and tune your vehicle for E85, well let's just say that I have some cheap acres of ocean I can sell you at a discounted price.

    @@jejoko ethanol does not damage fuel lines or seals. Ethanol is no more corrosive than any component in gasoline. I agree that E85 volume of ethanol can fluctuate between 51% and 85%... but that does not mean tuning to an optimum level within that range would not improve mpg if your car is tuned to 10%. You can run any car built 2001 or newer on E85, but your mpg will decrease if your car is optimized to E10.

    Ok so I'm reading the comments, I've been using 87 every since I got my Impala last year I believe, this morning when getting gas I looked at my gas cover and finally noticed on it, it said "E-85" and it's a yellow gas cap, I had no clue this whole time, so from what I read on here, switching to E-85 now could possibly be bad for my car right, so I should stick to using the 87 like I've been doing this whole time??? I'm just asking bc idk too much about any of this, any info or tips are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance, just don't want to switch, then have to switch right back and have my engine messed up like I've read in these comments, appreciate any help I can get on this, as soon as I noticed what it said on the gas cap I went straight to KZread like I always do and ran into this video and comment section 😂

    E85 is corn basically E85 is ethanol content of 85. And e85 is a corrosive gas, like it eats away at the plastics and rubbers in your fuel system. Your car will run lean because e85 also needs more fuel for the same level of performance in essence. It burns more. Which is why the csr needs to be tuned for it. E85s benefits comes when youre running tuned engines as it helps reduce engine knock, and internal engine temps along with being a more "stable" fuel source (i beleive dont quote me on that). Further you can usually run (more timing?) With an e85 setup as detonation is less likely. Unless your car has a flex fuel system most consumer cars can run a mix of around 30% e85 and 70% gasoline. But to run full e85 its bad for your car if stock. Also your mpg will reduce but youll feel as if the car has mkre power. Im still pretty new to the e85 stuff so dont take this as gospel and more of a general this is what it kinda does and how it kinda works.

    @@DocDucky Ethanol is compatible with more rubbers, plastics, and metals than gasoline and aromatics. This means that ethanol is LESS corrosive than gasoline, not more. Viton rubber was invented to mitigate the corrosiveness of gasoline, not ethanol. Viton rubber was invented about 50 years before the regular use of ethanol-gasoline blends in the United States. You are as dumb as jejoko.

    I am a fuel Hauler and deliver E-85. Basically I load 900 of 87 and 5100 gallons of ethanol. Basically your putting 15 percent regular and the rest is corn ethanol. The chemical engineers from the refinery I load said is safe on newer model vehicles but I am still skeptical.

    All negative comments about ethanol fuel are incorrect. They are either lies, exaggerations, or myths. They were mostly invented by the petroleum oil industry. Ethanol doesn't harm engines, it cleans engines. It doesn't suck water out of the air, but it will absorb water that naturally forms because of condensation. Gasoline can't do this so people have to resort to using engine additives that can cost as much as 2 or 3 gallons of gasoline. All liquids are corrosive, especially water. However, ethanol is less corrosive and compatible with more types of rubber, plastic, and metal than gasoline and aromatics. BTU values (energy content) are irrelevant when discussing internal combustion engines. Ethanol use does not affect the price of food.

    Drive the car often so and fill up the tank with a fresh fuel once a month. This is a way to avoid corrosion because most of those cars with issues from ethanol are those cars that mostly sit in parking lot, driveway, garage etc and rarely taken for drive. United states E10 does have BTEX stuff that damage plastics, rubbers more than ethanol. Ethanol fuel is the same stuff like alcohol liquor drink with difference being denaturation to prevent people from drinking fuel.
