It's hard when your disability isn't visible. People look at you and say well you don't look disabled and you probably just don't want to work. I just wanted to be normal, work have my own place, friends and family. Instead I'm alone with nothing and no one.

This is extremely relatable. I survived 5 years of cancer which wiped out my immune system allowing kidney failure to occur a few times in my life and even worse left me with gastrointestinal issues that prevent me from being consistent in anything I get to do. On the outside I always get told that I look fine so I get treated as if I am over dramatic or lying about what is going on internally. I have paperwork to prove everything but nobody will read the 10,000 pages of documents explaining my history to understand why I am the way I am...Not even the government who evaluated me externally and claimed I am no longer disabled while at the same time my paperwork claims there is no cure for any of my illnesses. Know that you're not alone and I care about you and all of us in this position. Stay true to yourself

I have autism (aspergers) and I work at Qdoba right now. I applied at several other jobs like Dairy Queen, McDonald’s and chipotle and disclosed my disability on my application and none of them even offered to interview me. I didn’t disclose my disability for Qdoba and they hired me right away. This world is messed up.

I am so proud of my son Miguel who has made it this far with the help of many supporters family, friends ,,HRC NYC ORGANIZATION , Barclay Center Employer and coworkers who has given him confidence in himself to achieve his goal in life . He has come a long way after being bullied and hurt at schools which he endured mild brain damage. .Was in a coma for 3 days. Lost his internship from the Federal Reserve job due to an anxiety attack. .He had to build back his self confidence which was not easy but with patience ,prayers, love and not allowing the focus on the disability but on the achievement makes a vast difference. Bravo 👋👏

the wage gap doesnt even exist, most men have higher paid jobs and women lesser paid jobs. and if there is a difference between jobs, u can explain it with more working ours, higher positions cuz women just go get jobs. and more experience, or just more suitable for a job. if u take that all away, it comes down to about 6.6% difference. thats why it is even more disgusting.

We need to unite we need to March! Are basic human rights are being abrogated and if we don't resolved to take productive action we will be ripe for extermination at the hands of our perpetrators in Washington and in the boardrooms alike. BLM has shown us the way. We must organize for our survival. We must march and seek remedy through the 14th amendment if necessary.

Part of my disability is that I get sick really often. My immune system sucks, so I'll be taking way more sick days than others use. I also can't stand or walk on my feet all day. Basically that means white collar jobs won't hire me for being sick too often, and retail/food/landscaping service jobs that might be okay with paying day to day when I am healthy won't hire me for not being able to be on my feet all day. Sometimes I'm basically housebound. Thankfully I only have to pay $70k in student debts on zero income and can live at my parent's house.

Hi, I'm sorry to read about your condition, that must be hard enough on its own, without the worry of finding and keeping a job. Have you considered professions which allow you to work from home aswell as on site? Perhaps there might be something in creative technologies, or media which might work for you? Given the times we live in with many industries adapting to working from home, you might find more jobs of that nature these days? Just a suggestion for you! I hope it helps. Either way keep the faith and you will find the path you are ment to be on. 👍

Another option might be telephone based jobs you can do which can be done from home too. There are always options and solutions, you've just got to keep persiting and you will find them! This is so relatable.. I have a severe physical disability and finding a job has always been a nightmare.. especially since my disability is a invisible one.. a lot of times employers don’t believe I’m disabled.. and if they do, I never hear from them back after the interview.. I hate it

I've busted my back 4 times, I've had cancer 4 times, I have cancer again, and can only work about 4 hours A-day.. After that I'm in so much pain I cry and then can't see. There is no help out there for us.

I’m legally blind myself. Everyday I wake up and feel blessed to have food, clothing, shelter and be employed. At least 70% to around 83% of us blind and visually impaired folks are unemployed and experiencing homelessness and other disparities because we can't get a job or find housing, due to being unemployed. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was a little helpful but up to a certain degree. I was homeless for six months back in the late 1990's when I was in my 20's, due to deep-rooted employment and housing discrimination. The disparities and statistics are probably a lot higher now because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I can't even imagine. You could have all the education, volunteer experience and skill sets in the world and still can't get a job. When rents or mortgages are a thousand dollars a month and up, Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is not going to cover everything. Absolutely disgusting. We are not criminals or X-felons. We have bills to pay and have to live. We should not have to live like this. And Section 14C of the Fair Labor Standards Acts needs to be abolished. This law gives employers every legal right to pay workers with disabilities sub-minimum wages. That's downright slavery. I refused to work for 50 cents an hour, for example. That doesn't even cover my bus fare going to and from work. These oppressive laws that keep people with disabilities impoverished and poor all need to be abolished. We face more disparities than most other groups but society doesn't want to talk about that. The bottom line is educating employers about hiring people with disabilities, regardless of education level, skill sets and volunteer experience. Some employers are willing to change their negative attitudes and serotypes about hiring people with disabilities and other employers just don't want to because they consider us a liability. You get tired of everybody considering you as a liability. Something needs to change. People of color fought for their civil rights and are still fighting for them. We disabled folks are still fighting for our basic civil rights. I don't think that's too much to ask

Did you not watch the vid how that one man got promoted and is really good most likely better than most average people at what he is doing. He is able to help much better due to his understanding of having his own struggle he puts the people he is helping at ease caters to them. @@beefy74 the interview process for disabled people is absolutely discriminatory. there are a lot of assumptions made for people of various disabilities. the world "disabled" on a resume should mean absolutely nothing until there is an interview conducted. there have been several people in wheelchairs denied jobs not because they are physically incapable of sitting at a desk and using a computer, but because employers assume that these people are intellectually retarded. that is discrimination.

More companies should give the disabled a shot to try out and give them fair wages.

I looked this up because I have Major Depression, OCD, and Anxiety. I have quit two jobs in 4 months. I want to ask for accommodation but I wouldn't even get the job if I didn't mask my symptoms and "prefer not to answer". I relate to Miguel sooo much. Already nervous so when you are talked down to or it takes you longer than others than you feel worthless. I start to spiral out of control at that point.

I got hired at Holiday Inn Express in Michigan, and got Laid -Off, five days later, even though I did a great job in both housekeeping and laundry department. This action took place because of a minor limp that I have, due to Diabetes that caused a mild case of Edema. Will keep you posted, and let you know if I was put back on the schedule, after I present the General Manager that did this to me, with a letter from my Doctor regarding my limitations. She tells everyone she's afraid to put me on the schedule cuz I may be a Liability, but never did have this conversation with me about what she said, but speaking this about me behind my back...I only spoke to her once when she ask was I physically capable and I told her I was, but maybe should be part time. She agreed, then put me back on schedule, then did an entire psycho turn around and took me Off, after working for barely five days...❤

I want to get off disability but I don’t want to risk losing it either because I’m diagnosed Bipolar so I could be fine one minute but the next I’m not and that’s why it’s been hard for me to keep jobs or do well in school. But I hate being enabled by disability and I’m trying to figure out what to do.. I have a degree in Psychology with a lot of customer service experience.

@@mrandersong1 Finding something we are passionate about can seem very hard at times. But sometimes we can try too hard to look for it or beat ourselves up for not feeling that passion for something in life because we look around and see everyone elses life going according to plan....I know I've done that. For me, when I feel a bit like that, I take myself off to somewhere quite, out in nature to a wood or a park where its quiet or maybe to the beech to watch a sunrise or a sunset and just appreciate the quite, and whats around me and try not focus on whats bothering me and just be glad for the moment Im in at that exact time and second. I do landscape photography and I find it helps to distract my mind, by capturing the beauty around me and looking for compositions. Over time I find my mind becomes a bit clearer, and I have more clarity about things. It takes patience and practice, but for me it works ( not always, but a lot of the time it does work). Perhaps you can try something like that and see if it helps. 🙂👍

I still have trouble finding work after all these years. I have to do under the table stuff if I can find it just to get by. THen when you have people judging because you can't get hired as easily it makes you feel really bad. It's not as easy as it looks. I get a lot a mess about my gender, sexuality, and disability. I hope one day to find something I can just do, and not have to worry about struggling anymore.

What I have found best foot in door is holiday season most place's hire in Bluck and don't really pay much attention to who they are hiring since most are going to be cut after. Once in you can prove yourself take those days no one wants without complaining might make you outshine a good amount ups your chance of being a keeper. It is easier to prove yourself once in the door so take advantage of huge hiring times

I feel like all of us need to do more to increase opportunities for everyone to contribute. All the speakers are inspiring.

I had a lot of jobs even after a traumatic childhood where my adopted parents and adopted brothers and townspeople raped and trafficked drugged and starved me 3-5 times a week everyday when I came home from school other homeless people would of gave up had they went through what I did I never gave up I just distanced myself from all the people who abused me anytime I call out their bad behavior they retaliate against me I put thousands of people in prison when I worked with probation and finished

damn that second guy’s words really spoke to me. inspiring.

And yet I'm sorry there is people with no problems that refuse to work and this young man got himself a job and he's good at it respect to him

Even if they don’t mean to, folks like this are likely judging folks who are too disabled to work consistently and just don’t have access to the knowledge and/or expensive diagnoses that would qualify them for proper assistance. And even then, focusing on such a tiny group of folks who are “lazy” or otherwise disillusioned with an unjust society just takes away attention from the flaws of that society that are causing actual harm.

I’m in the same boat myself except I am able bodied, but have facial paralysis meaning that I am unable to show a lot of facial expression. People think because I can’t show a lot of facial expression it means I can’t do anything. I have been unemployed for seven years. Hope we find something eventually! 💜.

I'm 29 and I have given up on ever re-entering the work force. I'm currently waiting to be approved for ssi, and looking for a WWM (woman with money)!

They constantly accuse me of things publically and I think that prevents me from being hired part time I already went to court for everything as a minor and adult they only accuse me to cause discourse in my life because people are cruel calculating and rude

In my late 20's, I dated a woman who also had Epilepsy and we looked after each other. I met her Family and they met Mine, and we all got along well! When i asked her to Marry Me, everyone was happy, knowing we were perfect for each other. But when we went to get a Marriage License, they insisted that we have I.Q. Tests. I scored a Grade 10 level (couldn't understand Calculus) and she scored a Grade 9 (couldn't do Algebra). Since neither of us have a Grade 12 level, they said we have the minds of a child, and by Law.... Children are Unable to give Consent. Even though I was physically an adult, and she was too, and we'd been dating for 3 years, and our Families were all in favor of it, we were Not Allowed to get Married. Everyone in our community got upset, but the Justice System has the Final Say. On the Good Side.... In my late 40's my Seizures stopped, and I was performing on stage in a Music Group where I met another lady who had Seizures as a child but she fortunately grew out of them, enabling her to get a University Degree. We became friends, then started dating, then decided to live together. When her family met mine, it was like a re-run of my first love, only time we were given a Marriage License, and got Married! I'm still unemployed, but I get paid each time I provide some music at a Senior's Care Home.

Keep the faith! You will find where you are ment to be! I mean this in a positive way, but have you considered a career where perhaps seeing isn't essential. Perhaps something where using other senses which you have like listening, can be a big asset. For example something like counselling or psychology? Just an idea for you, I hope it helps 🤞👍

If you get a rejection, dont take it as a negative thing, because its not. All it means, is that job isn't right for you and believe me no one wants to be in the wrong job because it only harms our confidence. So think of rejections as a lucky escape and keep going and eventually you will find that job which is just right for you! Just a bit of a tip for you too (up to you if you want to use it though) but when you apply or do interviews remember to focus on what you can do, not what you cant do! Think about transferable skills you can bring from your previous jobs or own life experiences too which can be applied to the job you are going for too. I have my fingers crossed for you! Keep going, sounds like you are doing amazingly well! 🙂👍🤞

Unfortunately some employers think of a disabled employee as a burden, hazard and a liability. It's an unfortunate fact. Of course not all employers think this way. Many proudly welcome and employ disabled applicants. It's not about limitations, it's about liberation. 💪😎

@@saharhadi-osseili6137 Totally! Well, I guess the only way to change the attitude of employers who see disability as a negative thing is to prove them wrong! When obstacles stand in our way, you go around them! And if you cant get around them, then go through them! So keep going, keep trying, and no matter what, dont give up! You prove these negative employers wrong, by never giving up and never letting anyone tell you, that you cant do something! When you get that job, you are going to do an amazing job and all them employers who turned you down before, will be regretting it! If you want it, go get it! Keep going, you've got this! 🙂👍

I am disabled and I want to work so bad. I studied and earned my personal trainer’s certification and even made a Paralympic development team. But no one will hire me. I’m supposed to start nursing school next summer and I’m afraid to go because what if I spend four more years to earn my BSN only to never be hired…

@@lv9265 I can proudly say that I was hired as a full time personal trainer yesterday, actually. I also used some of my transferable skills to sell charcoal portraits as well as videography. It wasn’t easy. At all. I’m still worried that I’ll be let go due to issues associated with my MS, but that’s unlikely, thankfully. Thank you for checking in! I hope you are doing well!

What remarkable man

I've had so many injuries back fractures and have been assaulted so many times I can't work full time I tried and couldn't do it it hurt to much 5 days a week nonestop they drive me into the ground on purpose at almost every job I had with accumulated injuries from being abused my entire childhood I was born without enough oxygen and have partial saribral paulsey when they forced me to work or die in prison they gave me the hardest jobs on purpose to wear me down even more they prevented me from working at most places and attacked me at the jobs they did hire me at I was paralyzed multiple times from being assaulted at work

My anxiety is all damn day I don't like people around me because I've been stabbed multiple times in the past

I had a very traumatic uprising they drugged me and my adopted brothers attacked and raped me my adopted parents sex trafficked me halfway around the world against my will they attempted killing me so many times before I turned 10

I have Cerebral Palsy and I'm an interior firefighter for the town I live in. I'd say if you're physically able to go to a trade school (trade jobs are in high demand rn) I went to welding school my instructors were awesome about working around my CP I have an arborist trainee job interview coming up next week. the best advice I can give is to find something you enjoy and do as much research as you can and then become the best you possibly can be at it! people with disabilities just have to be able to show we're able and willing to put in the blood sweat and tears to be the best we can at our jobs

I'm severely mentally disabled I lack the ability to do math because my lobe was undeveloped from being born 4 months early

I wasn't even given a chance to look for a job. When I was about to turn Legal Age, my Parents and a number of Doctors all got together and signed forms that put me on Disability Income, classed me as Unemployable, and sent me to live in a Long Term Care Home for People with Disabilities. For work, they put me in a Workshop where the pay is not money, but a free bagged lunch.

@@MrMartellSincere The place was called Goodwill Enterprises. It might still exist in some cities. People with Disabilities were shown that they're good at something, but without the incentive to look for work.

Have to stay under what social security defines as SGA which is 1310 a month. I don’t know if it changes depending on each person case. Also if you have subsidy or extra help for insurance have to stay under whatever amount that is or will lose that extra help paying for insurance.

i dont have any disability, but this has motivated me to work harder. thanks guys

This problem should be seen by UN not all disble have the same oppurtunities how about the disble who live in a 3rd world countries the disble who cannot move at all who are poor there rights and the goverment must take care of there well being, the true measure of democracy how they treat the less fortunite people,this people is apart of Us everyone must hear what is right and have a good life they did no chose this....

I guess you can make anything possible as long as you have the desire for it. It doesn’t matter if you have a disability or not. Helen Keller was completely vision and hearing impaired and yet she earned a college degree. Definitely a perfect example right there.
