Very useful tutorial Dan never thought about trying it on the bird before punching a second hole that seems much more sensible

I usually just have my hole punch with me when I get the bird, and either while someone is holding it or the bird is on a perch, put it round to see size then use the punch to just do it there and then before putting it on, no extra work and gives you a perfect fit.

Another tip, depending on what kind of leather you have, once you have measured you actually cut the hole to make it a tiny bit tighter so then when the bird baits or the leather naturally stretches it’s still a perfect fit

Thank you very much for your video series, I find this one especially helpful. I would really like to know a bit more about mews jesses and flying jesses. I saw another video where a falconer was criticized for having mews jesses on while the bird was flying. I'd love to see a bit more on how to switch the jesses. You said you leave the flying jesses on all the time, I'd like to hear more about that as well. Thank you for these very helpful videos!

Thank you, I will be making an updated video on the birds furniture, the reason mews jesses should be removed is because they bird could get caught up or tangled as they have a slit in them for the swivel

Fab info. I have been pondering about mounting bells and think tail mounting is the way to go keeping the legs free.

My hawks actually have 2 bells on each, one tail mounted and one on the leg, just in case they fly away and for some reason telemetry fails, you then have not just one but 2 bells to be able to hear your hawk. I do prefer a tail mounted bell though, it’s very sweet to hear one ringing while out with the hawk and you know it’s them shaking their tail talking to you in their language
