you should take a look at German history, specially the history of German thought and philosophy. You'll realise how proud they actually were, prior to Nazi Germany, of the German language and heritage. They actually considered German the best and ultimate language in philosphy!

Don't waste your vacation. It's quite funny for me, a Hungarian. Hungary has one of the biggest lakes in Europe and is quite close to Germany and in the summer the whole lake is full of Austrian and German tourists.
