No, first of all because Germany played much better than Italy throughout the whole match, didn't dive or played hard and tactical fouls like the italians and because Germany had so many legends in its team and was the favourite to win the whole tournament which they probably would have without idiotic mistakes and tragically incorrect refereeing in the France match.

Conte certainly knows how to get the best out of average players. Other than the back 3/keeper, there are bang average players in that Italian line-up. But Conte really gets them wound up.

This is reminiscent of their famous 1970 WC match, in that it went on forever, was very exciting at the end, but ultimately the excitement came mostly because both teams were making lots of mistakes. And because of that, in my mind neither can be considered great a match. Although of course the Germans will savor it, as they finally managed to beat Italy. But I believe that in this match Germany missed more penalty kicks than they did in all previous WC and Euro matches combined. Truly bizarre.

It shows how much of a curse Italy was for Germany. Honestly I had a feeling years ago before 2016 that Germany would break the curse against Italy on penalties just like Spain did against Italy in euro 2008. And I was right 😂. However statistically Germany knocked out Italy they didn’t beat them in regular time or extra time. It ended up in a draw. The first official victory over Italy was Germany 5-2 Italy in nations league.
