Being German, I am of course still glad that our team has won, Oliver Kahn's goalkeeping was excellent, Schweinsteiger performed well and Frings tried to show why the Italians were so afraid of him as to mob him out of the contest at the green desk. But seeing Luis Figo play for a few minutes is the aesthetic highlight of this game. The timing of his cross for Portugal to score was inch perfect. Thanks for showing it.

What players Nowotny , Frings , Kehl , Jansen and of course the Titan Kahn ! Jens Lehmann was giving a rest and Kahn had his moments in the Germany vs Portugal match ! Oh yeah i totally forget the capitano " Ballack" what a fantastic player with his foot and especially head in scoring goals ! Lahm took over the captain position at the wc in 2010 in South Africa , because Ballack suffered a major injury while playing in Premier League! The one responsible for his crude injury before the wc started was no other than Kevin Prince Boateng, brother of Gerome Boateng who played for Germany while Kevin Prince Boateng played for his dads country Ghana!

Too bad Felipao didn't realize that Nuno Gomes was a better big game striker than Pauleta. Pauleta will give you buckets of goals against lesser teams and then choke tournament time. Nuno had a much better record when the pressure was on.

I know Schweinsteiger was clearly more of a team player would do a defensive job and also changed his position to deeper role a bit later in his career & Cristiano if anything changed to further forward a bit later when already a free role 2nd striker at least even if on paper he's down as a winger but he changed to striker but still, imagine in 2006 you say Cristiano will score more goals in his career than Schweinsteiger everyone will laugh. But 600+ goals more 😲 Cristiano had also only been disappointing with ManUtd at this point and had disappointing seasons trophy wise as well. Many ManUtd fans wanted him out not just cos of the Rooney thing but because he wasn't that good a player. Ferguson really helped CR7.

Not saying that Schweinsteiger prefers an individual goal tally accolade rather than the things he won that Cristiano didn't, WorldCup being the biggest example. I'm sure that'll mean more to Schweinsteiger than selfish tallies being the team player Schweinsteiger is/was. Schweinsteiger's record with 🇩🇪 in major tournaments compared to Cristiano's many many tournaments is chalk & cheese.

Tbh back then even cr7 as a midfielder was scoring goals. That season for man it he scored 12 and likewise for Portugal that point he had scored 12. Scored 42 goals in the 2007/08 season as a midfielder. I know Rooney covered for him defensively but still his official position and play was that of a wide midfielder

@@thefan974 No, never properly played as winger. Mainly free role 2nd second striker. Plus he was taking freekicks & pens and being in the box for corners. He would only not take freekicks if he wanted a provider to cross to him in the box but he was poor at freekicks for 3 years there were better takers but he got given a lot of practice.
